I removed my foam a few weeks ago and pleased with the results. I followed the tutorial of another KZbinr and drilled 3/8 inch holes from inside the chamber where the motor is. Cleaned thoroughly and did not plug the holes since the the inside of the motor chamber seals up with a cover. No difference in pressure or function in any way. Prior to the removal i used an inline filter purchased on Amazon. After only three weeks the filter had turned a gray charcoal color. I assume it was from the foam. After removal of the foam I placed a new inline filter and it has been in place the same amount of time and the filter is as white as it was brand new so removal of the foam made a huge difference. I can't believe I was inhaling that stuff for over 7 years. Also I never used a SoClean type device. I feel confident this device will now be safe to use until the new ResMed becomes more readily available for purchase.

I removed foam in my Dreamstation 2 months ago and am happy with results, will continue to use it and if Phillips refuses to replace or even just replace foam chamber because I removed foam I’m still ahead of the game and will never knowingly buy another Phillips product. There is a slight possibility that the flow rate Venturi between the foam chambers may be compromised but my OSCAR data readings are virtually the same before and after foam removal.

I removed the foam in my dreams ration and it was nothing like the ones that I've seen here on KZbin my phone was all gooey and chewy and nasty. I assume it's because I have an ozone so clean machine so I'm thinking that has to be the reason but anyways there was so much goo and stuff in those chambers I had to take them out clean it out the best I could and even use you know q-tips and this and that and now I have an error code showing I'm going to post the code I believe it's for that equalizer valve that plugs in there maybe I got that wet or damaged it cleaning it I was very careful and maybe somebody could help me out there because I can't even seem to find one and I certainly need my machine

You need a special screwdriver tip. It's mentioned online. I used a heat gun to soften the area to be cut, then used a utility knife to make a flap. Afterward, the flap just fits back great. I used the heat gun and a screwdriver to melt the flap back.

Jason, Thanks for another great video. I followed your video and removed the foam from my machine. I don't think I would have tried it if you hadn't laid it out so well. I did leave a flap instead of cutting a hole. It didn't pry up easily, but it worked and made closing it up much easier. I used the suggestion someone sent in and used aluminum tape to close it up. With the flap holding in place, it worked out well. Took me about an hour and a half, but a lot of that time was spent finding the right tool and screw driver. The machine works great and is very quiet. Thanks again, I never would have done this without your video.

I removed the foam in mine by using my solder gun and a flat tip and melted out a small square, also I went thru the inside by removing the motor and therefore did NOT need to replace the cutout piece as the top motor cover reseals the chamber. Also, by removing the motor I was able to rinse and dry before reassemble.

Doing this allows a bypass route around the sensor that measures mass air flow. The machine will appear to still operate correctly, but its ability to detect apnea/hypopnea events and measure flow rate accurately may be affected. Any cutouts really should be sealed back shut.
@Zalagar619
@Zalagar619 2 жыл бұрын
This is actually incorrect. You need to seal any cut or removed peices. You could have just used a hot knife or xacto blade to cut a slot, removed it, then used a solder iron or glue gun tip to plastic weld it back shut. If you don't believe me, look up the foam removal thread on the ApneaBoard forum. They tested it and showed the data and why every cut/hole needs to be re-sealed.

@@Zalagar619 I appreciate the heads up - I'm looking to do something similar and didn't know the holes need to be resealed. I probably feel safer using a hot exacto knife and a glue gun rather than spending money on a tiny circular saw that could throw plastic particles in the air anyway.

Everything I could find suggested that fumes are just being put off as it dries. I reassembled the machine and the glue was definitely dry. I ran the machine for a few minutes just listening to it. I then put on a mask and breathed trying to exhale forcefully to see if I noticed anything. I didn't smell anything at all. Doesn't mean there isn't something there, but I'm not all that worried about it. 8-10 x 0.5 or 0.75 inches of solid foam vs. a very thin bead of dried super glue and "glue gun" glue.

Hey TheLankyLefty27 I just wanted to show you a picture of where my foam used to be located. My machine was put into service July 2016. I did not do any cutting on the fan housing to access the foam, but much to my surprise the foam was pretty much gone on the exhaust end of the fan chamber. I have used a So-Clean machine for at least 1/2 to 100 % of the time. I use the CPAP every night, except when I came down with Covid-19 and pneumonia and was hospitalized, so there was a couple of weeks that I didn't use it. I'd love to attach my photo of the fan chamber with the disintegrated foam, but I can't seem to it attached?? Thanks for your VALUABLE service to all of us PAPers. Rich

My friend didn't start taking Ivermectin until the day before he was hospitalized for Covid because he thought the headache and lethargy he was experiencing were due to fumes coming from his recently recalled CPAP machine (another health system failure) He had a limited supply of 3 mg tablets and the prophylactic dose for someone his size is 24 mgs. I don't know how many he took, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the therapeutic dose which is double - 48mgs for five days. Anyway, he didn't take them to the first hospital. His wife, Nancy, was experiencing symptoms and they were left with her. (I explained the therapeutic dose to her and she was symptom free in two days. They had both tested positive the day before he was hospitalized ) Rod went a day without Ivermectin during the initial trip to to the local hospital and subsequent transfer to one treating Covid ($13,000) Nancy asked that I drop off his toothbrush and stuff, so my wife and I drove to the second hospital. He had not yet arrived, so we left the small bag with Security. In it was a card from us with 36 mg of Iverrmectin from my supply. (I started taking a prophylactic dose when I heard he tested positive) I visited him in the Covid ward the next day and gave him 15 of my 12 mg capsules. He took three a day while there. Of course, they followed the CDC protocol of Remdesivir and dexamethasone, not the FLCCC protocol of Ivermectin and methylprednisone. It was during this time that he had the conversation with the attending doctor stating that he wished he could follow the FLCCC protocol, including Ivermectin, but would be fired if he did so, and was told by a nurse that half the staff were not vaccinated. The nurse also said they weren't seeing any improvement with any of their patients using Remdesivir. Anyway, he was feeling pretty good after a few days and itching to be released. THEY INSISTED HE STAY ANOTHER NIGHT SO THAT THEY COULD COMPLETE THE COURSE OF REMDESIVIR (and collect $3000+). I picked him up the following day. He walked the 30 or 40 yards out of the ward and down to the parking lot unassisted. A nurse walked alongside carrying an oxygen tank. He had a fitful night at home. He couldn't use his CPAP and mask, as he didn't have a $5 adapter that allows oxygen to be bled into the airflow. (for want of a nail... ) Instead, he relied on the tube and canula with the two little nose prongs that they sent him home with. It dislodged during the night and he woke up disoriented with a low oxygen level. An ambulance was called and he was taken to the local hospital WHERE THEY TREATED HIM AS A NEW COVID PATIENT ($13,000), EVEN THOUGH HE WAS VIRUS FREE. He suffered another full course of the antiviral Remdesivir ($3000) while his kidneys failed and lungs filled with fluid probably due to the Remdesivir - look it up. I visited him again on Thursday. Sometime over the weekend they sedated him and put him on a ventilator which probably further damaged his lungs. They pulled the plug Tuesday afternoon, meeting the 42-hour requirement to collect the $39,000 Covid ventilator bonus. Note that they can't be sued because they followed the standard of care, and only the standard of care, as proscribed by the PREP act. I'm sure the cause of death (no autopsy) was recorded as Covid and won't be contested as death certificates stating Covid qualify for several thousand dollars of funeral expenses.

The biggest problem they did not state is that Phillips new replacement machine, i.e. Dream Station 2, is a much cheaper made machine and any filters and etc. you have will not fit on the new machine. The hoses are smaller diameter and will not be sufficient for large people. The water tank is smaller, so requires frequent filling. There is no swivel fitting at the back of the machine so your hose goes straight back into the wall, instead of being able to swivel towards your bed. The machine is all black and difficult for us elderly to see in the night.

Look at 5:30. You can see where the blower goes into the "foam chamber". That chamber isn't sealed at all. Some people take off the entire plastic blower piece and fish out the foam from those two holes with fishing lures and other tools.

I’d think the possibility is low that the blower itself has foam in it considering that it pulls air from outside the machine through a filter then blows the air over the foam and then the air is pushed into the humidifier reservoir and then into the air hose. There’s no sequence where the air passes through the foam chamber then into the blower.

Man I appreciate it are used your video and the video of the guy from Melbourne removing the foam I did mine last night and it worked fine but after sleeping on it rather than cutting holes in the chamber to get it out I’m gonna take the old foam and do some experiments and try to find a chemical that would make the foam dissolve and just wash it out you won’t have to cut holes in it then all she have to do is clean up the chamber which is easy to do with detergent and then vinegar one of my first experiments is going to be with hydrogen peroxide to see what it does to it I know gas will probably get it out of there without having to cut holes in it the question I have for you just like the man in Melbourne do you have a part number where I can buy a chamber if I find a chemical that will remove the foamI would appreciate the help Grace and peace Man and thanks for sharing you taught me a lot last night

Hot knife or Xacto knife or anything sharp. It is also easier to just use the hot knife, glue gun tip, or a solder iron to melt the plastic back together, plastic welding it, that way you don't need to use any glues or tapes.
@jyotipethe
@jyotipethe 2 жыл бұрын
@@Zalagar619 Thanks for the suggestion. I used a hot knife like you suggested. (small kitchen knife heated on gas burner) I removed the motor and made the holes on the inside wall facing the motor. That way I didn't have to seal the holes, the plastic cover covered the whole thing anyway. There was no plastic dust to worry about. But I was worried if tiny plastic pieces could break off from the jagged edges of the holes I made. After half night of using the machine, the fear has gone down. LOL There is really no difference in the noise level of the machine. I hope to use it regularly until I can get my hands on a new resmed 10.
@Zalagar619
@Zalagar619 2 жыл бұрын
@@jyotipethe You do have to seal those holes even inside the blower chamber. Its absolutely necessary. There is a pressure differential sensor and another sensor that will be skewed by leaving the holes inside the blower chamber. There is a forum thread that shows the sensors, the data, and reasoning that they all have to be sealed no matter where the holes are made. Forum is called Apnea Board and there is a Dreamstation One Foam Removal thread that explains it all.

I think the Gorilla Glue just when it's drying. The other gets pretty hard when its dry. To be honest I don't know, but there is so little of it making contact with the air about to be inhaled. Not like the foam that the air runs directly through for about 8-10 inches.

That would be a very bad idea. This foam gives off harmful VOCs when it's completely intact. Burning it, and coating the whole inside of the chamber with the residue of whatever is left would make things much worse. You'd be altering and degrading the plastic chamber too in ways no one ever thought to test....... the residue of whatever remains would probably smell horribly as well.
