Excellent video. I was born and raised in Florida which is like diet australia. The alligators are nowhere near as dangerous as the crocodiles that you guys have. I think that most of the country thinks that the alligators are that dangerous and it's comical because they're not haha. But excellent video. I have a green anaconda and people are shocked at what I feed her. She's almost 9 ft and she gets either a jumbo rat or a 12 oz rabbit every 5 to 6 weeks and then 3 months off food in the winter time and she's growing like a champ. Most people I see that have them grossly overfeed them I mean like horrifically overfeed them to the point where they end up taking decades off their lives due to obesity. My next step is to get into alligators. I live in Georgia now but I can go back and forth. Hopefully one day it'll be saltwater crocs.

When they kill a larger animal they will take the body and wedge it between rocks or longs at the bottom of the lake or river and let it go soft.. They will keep coming back to the dead prey for weeks eating it bit by bit.. This Croc would not have consumed the female all in one sitting..

At about 00:59, Matt states, incorrectly, that there are "23 species of saltwater crocodiles". In fact (without getting too technical, and based on current nomenclature), there are 23 species of crocodilians : 2 alligators, 6 caimans, 14 crocodiles, and 1 gharial. Matt, would you please name for me a species of "saltwater crocodile" other than Crocodylus porosus? I look forward to your reply.

I don't know whether I'm a "smartass" or not, but I know more about crocodilians than Matt! I'm still waiting to learn about a "species of saltwater crocodile" other than Crocodylus porosus!
@Und1234
@Und1234 7 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that was just an accidental error. He then goes on to talk about how "these ones are one of the largest and most aggressive" (presumably talking about Crocodylus porosus). He is indeed correct, salties are the largest and most aggressive of all the crocodilians. There's no need to act like a smartass when anyone with an ounce of sense can tell that the guy just made a mistake.
@Steevee14
@Steevee14 7 жыл бұрын
To "The Undisputed": I never said that Matt made his error intentionally, but, since he IS a keeper and lecturer at the Sydney Zoo, I would have to assume that he has delivered that same lecture (at least) dozens of times, and that he has essentially memorized its salient points. His statement that there are "23 species of saltwater crocodiles" certainly seems to be one of his well-memorized lines; even if he had stated, "there are 23 species of crocodiles" - that would have been incorrect - correctly stated, the statement would be: there are "23 species of crocodilians", so, for him to state "23 species of saltwater crocodiles", indicates to me that he most likely believes that his (well-rehearsed) statement is correct. By the way, I am curious about your source for your statement: salties are the "...most aggressive of all the crocodilians" - isn't "aggressive" a rather subjective and anthropomorphic term? Can you cite any peer-reviewed scientific article that corroborates your statement? Is the Nile crocodile any less "aggressive" than the saltwater crocodile? If you talk to people who have worked with crocodilians, I think you would find agreement that the Cuban crocodile is the most pugnacious and difficult croc species to work with, although, again, that conclusion is largely subjective and unprovable. Finally, in your way of thinking, is anyone who (logically/factually, and without "name-calling") points out an error made by another person, a "smartass"? What did I say that caused you to conclude that I acted "like a smartass"?

Bet if you fell in he would eat you and have no problem eating his chicken next week. In the wild he would eat more and more often. But biologist feel that all creatures can survive on the bare minimum amount of food.

G Gar they don't hunt underwater, thats why even in aquariums, you can see schools of fishes swimming next to them, but crocs never eat them.
@TridentGP7
@TridentGP7 6 жыл бұрын
yes, but there are cases where they actually dragged people's feet underwater, like this one: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4898304/Shaman-dragged-crocodile-infested-Indonesian-lake.html although what the narrator said might have been true, it's not worth their diet. Caimans in amazon are also known to feed on fish, not a saltie, but still crocodilian, same anatomy.

Stuck in a diet of boring chicken meat every week like WTF! There are tons of feral bush tucker out there that doesn't belong to Australia for crying out loud. What's the matter, your zoo's to broke to hire a bunch of hunting parties to catch feral species to be fed to your animals?? Use your feral species like cats, buffaloes, rats and feral hogs. Except don't feed em cane toads but you get what i mean. It will save your zoo tons of money using organic meat! Imagine yourself eating chicken for the rest of your miserable lifespan on earth. Some life!
