The only reason they do that is cause they don't use cab vents like everyone else does. The air flow sucks on these things when set for fresh air because of this.

In BC here and it's the companies and owner/operators who lowball prices, wages and maintenance that concern me. Recipe for disaster. Knew a guy on Vancouver Island who was a mobile heavy duty mechanic. He got called to a local batch plant to replace one set of rear brakes on one of their transit mixers. Fella said it was beyond gone, and a quick check showed the rest were a couple of trips away from that (important since that plant was at the bottom of a steep hill with heavy traffic). He notified the company rep that they should all be done but was told to just do the one, the others were fine. This was a major company with little to no regional competition (and concrete isn't something you buy from any great distance) so their lack of maintenance was down to maximizing profits - they could easily jack up prices a bit to pay for safe trucks but chose not to. It was the same with one motor coach company doing ski hill charters. he stopped working for them because they a) were a liability risk for him and b) never paid their bills. Get the bottom feeders out of any industry and things are better and safer for everyone.

Hi Dauminique, I am lucky to drive for a company that encourages safe and courteous driving, we are SAFED ( Safe And Fuel Efficiency Driving ) trained and they monitor the performance of your driving in a similar way to the company you drive for. There are still many tipper operators here in the UK that have a reputation not so much for overloading but for pushing their driver's to the limit which encourages them to speed to get the job done giving them a bad reputation not just within the industry but with the general public also. Sorry to hear about your fall please take care of yourself, I hope you are soon free from the pain and feeling better soon.

I was paid percentage (by the load) out in So CA which created all kinds of problems! Speed limit in California is 55 MPH everywhere but my truck could go well beyond 70 (not governed) and I often drove that fast because I was literally in a race with other drivers and yes, we were often “A-holes” out there! I spent about a month at a larger company that paid hourly (and trucks governed at 57 MPH) but hated being micro-managed so I quit and went back to my old truck and stayed there until I got back into Aerospace. Running freight between Houston and Dallas, I run 75 MPH whenever safe and possible (it’s legal here) and the only ones passing me are end-dumpers and Bull Haulers!😎

The difference is often whether people/drivers care about the details and pay attention to the details. Some do and some don't. Those who don't usually don't care. Caring people pay attention to details and hold those issues to heart. You are one of those caring people who pays attention to details because you care. It is who you are deep down. You live that "I care attitude." Those other drivers just don't care.... They also miss a lot in life because they don't notice others and the details. Yep, You can be miserable with something to put your mind to so you are distracted or miserable at home with just your tail bone to put your mind to. I'm with you. Stay safe.

Another thing on dump trucks: here in Wisconsin many don`t have mud flaps. I mentioned it to a cop and he said they lobbied it at the capitol. So the most likely truck to throw a rock at your windshield, or my face while on the motorcycle, doesn`t have to be equipped with mud flaps. Senseless.

It unfortunately never gets better with some drivers. There will always be those that are a menace on the road. Yes, with gps and everything in the trucks it has made a big difference. Whether otr, dump truck, box truck, etc. To me the worst are the drivers in cars, pick ups and suv's. Having driven truck and seeing them in action, they seem to think that any kind of truck can stop on a dime when they cut in front of you because they are in a big rush to get nowhere. Keep the videos coming and know that we who subscribe enjoy them.

Great video. I have too agree with you concerning bad drivers. I will go out on a limb and say that the drivers now days of big companies aren't very good. I blame that on their training. Companies such as Swift put a trainee in a truck with a trainer who may only have 6 months of driving. Even today I consider myself the most defensive driver on the hwy. I drove OTR over 40 years accident free and over 4 million miles before I retired. I have watched your videos and I love the way you drive and that you are constantly checking your mirrors. Your shifting gears is great. Hope you get to feeling better. Keep up the hard work and stay safe and healthy. 👍💕🙏

Here in Hawaii, truck drivers are paid hourly. Paid from leaving the yard till you return. Some allows drivers paid time to precheck their trucks before heading to the job site. One company in particular will stop the drivers time when he breaks down for blown tires or mechanical problems. Almost all of them will pay for break downs.

Thats good. Here if a company didn’t pay while the truck is broken down on the side of the road they would have problems with L&I.

Our problem here in New Jersey is the dump truck drivers roll over at least two or three a day. Then they wonder why the State Police constantly pull them over. Consistently speeding. I drove a tri-axle coal body years ago.. My honest opinion some people don't belong in a truck.. I only do tanker and lowboy stuff now.. I was a trainer years ago. Some people downright scared me. I had a woman who trained with me and was awesome and had her stuff together. 40 years of driving a truck, I've seen a lot. good luck to you and your family with the new baby
