Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! Today, we have a slight miscommunication which places Ethan and a driver in a very dangerous situation. We were called by the customer to tow just the truck from a safe parking lot. I sent Ethan in our Peterbilt 337 with a Miller Industries, Century 4024, towing and recovery unit, to tow the truck to a local dealership. However, Ethan couldn't find the truck at the WalMart parking lot where it was supposed to be. Instead, Ethan found the driver still hooked to a trailer and on a dangerous section of a busy highway. I contact the customer and advise them of the situation, then I take our flagship, Peterbilt 389X with a Century 1150R Rotator heavy towing and recovery unit to assist Ethan with traffic control and ultimately end up performing what we call a "split-tow". I hope you enjoy this video!!!
We have a difficult and dangerous job and we take it very seriously, that doesn't mean we can't have fun and enjoy our work. We strive to be polite, professional, efficient, and safe...and still can have fun. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

Ron, i'm glad you were able to get this driver and his equipment to a safe location to split the unit. I currently work for Werner Enterprises and my first two trucks were Internationals. I'm currently in a Pete 579 and drive right by Scott City at least 1 to 2 times a week.

In Wisconsin, I was told by the wrecker operator (that pulled my tractor/trailer to a Penske yard), that they are NOT supposed pull tractor/trailer combos UNLESS there is substantial danger. Some (stupid) sensor in my DT-12 tranny stopped sensing and, because every time Penske does software a 'upgrade,' manual mode disappears; I was stuck on the entrance/exit ramp from a VERY busy interstate to a VERY busy interstate bypass entrance - the officer didn't even get out of his car until the wrecker showed up. The wrecker showed up, hooked up, and drug my truck/trailer about 15 miles to the opposite side of town, because the nearest Penske didn't have any loaner tractors. It took him more time to pull an axle shaft out of the front drive axle (because he couldn't get a clean grip on the driveshaft bolts), than it did to hook the unit! I've been broke down on the side of the road many times over my trucking career. That night scared me! At the end of the day: you were able to get that tractor/trailer combo to a close 'safe' location. Splitting them, at that point, was the better, safer option! Sometimes the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principal is king!

Traffic is like this nationwide unfortunately!! Im retired 20 yrs in towing and recovery had several state troopers with me before on wrecks and breakdowns people still wouldn't move over ,had soo many close calls so glad im not playing with traffic anymore!!! Stay safe and God bless all at Midwest towing!!

Here in north Carolina when they have several troopers on scene as you mentioned and a vehicle has Opportunity to slow or move over and fails to do so one on those troopers is going after him and in north carolina the fine for that is 500 dollars plus 250 dollars court cost plus assessment fee of another 100 dollars so youre looking at nearly a thousand dollars plus 5 points on your license.

Hello Ron, Ethan and all the Pratt family and larger Midwest Crew. I've said it more than once, but the care and professionalism you show for your crew, your gear, and your customers is second-to-none. I hope you all had a wonderful (and peaceful!) Christmas, and have a 2024 that's full of good things. (I'd also like to pay special note here to how gently you handled the Rotator's underreach in this job, having just given it a lick of paint... looked so gentle you could've been fussing a kitty!)

Another awkward situation made safe and, relatively, straightforward. Another example of multiple ways of doing things safely. All in all it worked out well and no-one, not even the 'tator's new paintwork, got hurt!! I wish you, the family and all at Midwest a blessed, peacful and prosperous New Year. Greetings from the UK. God bless.

I remember when the Peterbilt roll back was new. Ron, I remember one of the first time its bed got scratch up. You said something along the lines, it's a work truck and that's going to happen. You still found it a bit upsetting. Looks like those feelings are back with the freshly painted rotator's underreach. The first scratch is always the hardest! Perhaps it will help to think of it as each scratch means money has been earned! I pray for you and the crew to always get the job done safe.

Traffic just has no common sense when it comes to keeping over, it's not as if your trucks are too tiny to see! Appreciate the expertise you put into all your recoveries. I guess if manufacturers could have got around the powered lubrication issue to allow autoboxes to be towed forward unlifted they would have already.

Simple solution. Build the trannies with a rear oil pump. Most early automatics had a rear pump and could be push started or towed. Sadly manufacturers build their junk as cheaply as possible so a lot of things that worked have been eliminated.

Each time I get put in a brand new truck, we end up on the side of the road somewhere with "Derate" issues. DEF Fluid is 99% water. Well, seeing the location on the back of that trailer, that was from a HVDC distribution center. Those trailers are always fully palletized so very easy to unload and reload if needed. But luckily you had an empty trailer and no unneeded headache. Hopefully you never get an overturned RDC trailer as that is all loose freight inside thats unloaded on a conveyer line of sorts, no unloading that on the side of the road to make the job easier. I'll have to see what market Olney distributes to, we get all ours from Sterling.

Ron, I am going to add kind of a "sidebar" comment since you did the hookup next to an RV dealership. My parents for years had an RV dealership for many years starting in 1966. The business was on a County Primary 2 lane road not as nice as it is today. Anyways, the local banks wouldn't floor plan trailers for the business because they were not on the four lane highway. The owner of the factory that built the Century trailers made a call to his bank and they always had a floorplan loan when needed. The entire time they had the business, my parents never once set foot in that bank. It was all done with a phone call and by mail. Those were the days! While that dealership next to you had everything on concrete, we always had the trailer parked on nicely mowed grass. I always thought that our location better showed the trailers closer to the environment that the customer would be parking and using the RV. It sure worked for us. Ron, as you have said many times, "There is more than 5 plus 5 to equal 10." Too bad the three piece suit local bankers never could figure that out! Well done on a very busy fair week. We did that too, display RVs at our County Fair. We just didn't have to move them mid-fair! Thanks and stay safe!

One thing the worker who took the truck home when a worker goes home at the end of the day they need to drive there own vehicle, once off clock you shouldn’t be in a company vehicle. I get there are reasons why some companies let drivers take work trucks home to make work quicker when there is a call but but still shouldn’t call off when your driving the company truck.

Hey there Ron I just thought of something I saw on my son's work truck that might be of help to you . He works for a tree service and on their heavy trucks thier cones are mounted to their front bumper by a long rod they slide the cones over down the rod and then the rod pushes back into a locking collar to hold the cones against the bumper spring loaded like . Thought this might work for the front of your trucks as well and it would free up some space in your storage boxes ! He works for a well known tree service here in Tennessee Asplunde I think I spelled it correctly ! Just a thought ! Have a Happy and Safe New Year ! God Bless you and your family and your crew !

The tow caps, are they inserted or placed against the flat side of the airbags?? How does that work? Now I want to go and look under my tractor's airbags. 🤣 I was recently in a car accident, hit from a weird angle so my car was pushed to one side and the car that hit me was in both lanes. It was caused by a hit and run. Live traffic going by either sides in city streets. I had two young kids in my car with their restraints still on in case we got hit again. After making sure the kids were ok and knew to stay put, I called 911 and directed them to send fire and police and made it clear that we were in live lanes. Fire arrived, and blocked us, got to say it was an immense relief to see them there. I already had training for these situations but never thought I'd have to put them to use for my own family. So, your video just reminded me of that. PSA. It's far safer to remain in your vehicles with your restraint on until FRs arrives. People have been hit from wandering around the scenes.

I recently retired from 24 hour road service in Miami Florida and believe me people just do not care about the safety of others they absolutely Drive crazy not caring about the safety of people that are trying to do good for others by removing them from the side of the road luckily enough all the years I worked on the side of the road I was never injured but there were many times that's a vehicle I was working on had their mirrors taken completely off the side of the vehicle God bless you and stay safe throughout the new year

Dear Ron.. I have looked and searched at every retail location I have been in for those self contained ratchet straps. Can you shout out where and the order/product number? Thank you in advance!

Thank you Ron for yet another great video😀 Just when you walked past the back of the rotator, to grab the remote, I was like: Hmm, it looks repainted. And then you said it XD But holy moly, the blue and yellow colors are beautiful 😀

Hi Ron, I know you were just at the fair but it looks like you need a extra truck just to carry all the extra stuff in the rotator! LOL You guys are a great group of guys, professional, polite and friendly. Safety is always the main priority! Love your videos! I agree people need to pay more attention while they are driving. Slow down and move over everyone, for everyone’s safety.

Ron, I wouldn't be surprised is there was a kitchen sink hiding in the rotator somewhere. With the amount you carry in it. 😂 That was a really bad spot to stop, it's a pity about #16 not being available, it's always a risk when taking work vehicles home. Hope you're all feeling better and having a great Christmas / NYE.
