Lectron has replied to Tom, Brandon and I over this. They said "At this point, we believe that only a small number of units are affected" They offered to send me a replacement but they want mine returned to them so they can investigate. They also said, "The issue can be fixed with easy mechanical change to the latch.". So that leads me to believe my guess was most likely correct that the latch pin was installed backwards.

I received an email from a Lectron CSR who said they are aware that a small batch of adapters have the faulty locking pin, and have corrected the issue. They emailed me a prepaid return label, to send mine back for a free replacement and apologized for any inconvenience. Before I sent mine back I did another test at a 12 stall Tesla SC location and the NACS plug locked on 4 of the 12 NACS plugs with no issues, which leads me to believe it may not be solely the faulty pin but rather a worn notch in the bottom of the Tesla plug that won't allow the pin to seat in the locked position.

I don't have this issue but thank you for bringing this up. Truly appreciated.

I got the A2Z adapter, tried it yesterday and worked perfectly. Yes, the NACS side is manual latching but it works. I have road trips already scheduled for the summer and can’t wait for Rivian until probably next year the earliest.

My husband is a contractor and he agrees with you-the pin is in backwards. I think it is in backwards as well. Crazy that these got out the door at Lectron.

Thanks you for this video. Great editing as always. Ouch, I am a Chemist and have worked in QC mostly and QA. Wow! What a mistake. Crazy. Thanks so much for letting me know. I have not ordered the Tesla to CCS Lectron fast charged so yay! CP, I'm sorry you keep getting hosed as it were by Hyundai and now Lectron. We have ordered our Rivian -approved Tesla to CCS adapter thru the Rivian App. It will take a while to arrive (like 6 months? lol.) I felt like such a chump not pre-ordering the Lectron adapter so now I feel a little vindicated but this is a terrible dangerous problem. I will watch Brandon's video. I unsubscribed to Brandon when he sold his R1T.

Hopefully this just affects a limited number of the adapters. Some others have said there's latches correctly.

@@Crazypostman At least 2 adapters are messed up (that's not zero defects-lol) though. You did a great job figuring this all out!! Thanks.

I want to say just wait for the official adapter but I’m also the guy who tore the back of his Model 3 apart to do my own charging ECU retrofit and use a CCS1 adapter I imported from South Korea so…… 😭

man, so dangerous. Thx for the vid.

@crazypostman Maybe you can do a tear down of the connector and check if it is the pin that had to be turned around?

They've replied to both me, Tom, and Brandon... This is what they sent to Tom, "At this point, we believe that only a small number of units is affected. The issue can be fixed with easy mechanical change to the latch." Basically the message they sent to me was they appreciate my feedback and they're sending me another adapter and would like mine returned o they can investigate.

You wonder how something like that gets past the basic QA tests.
@Crazypostman3 ай бұрын
More worried about getting them out the door fast than QA it seems.

Which one should i get this or the A2Z?
@Crazypostman2 ай бұрын
I don't like how the A2Z latches or the Tesla one also, the Lectron is my favorite design. Assuming they can get it to lock properly.

The video I did was just an unboxing video and I say at the very first that I haven't used it. But I did talk about it positively based on other trusted opinions. I have put it in my car and hooked everything up, I didn't think to try to pull the NACS handle out, it appeared it was latching.
@ArtiePenguin13 ай бұрын
Hmm I don't think my (prepro) Lectron NACS adapter has this flaw... I'll need to double check mine though
@Crazypostman3 ай бұрын
I was really disheartened because this was my favorite adapter out of the bunch. But Lectron says they're going to make it right.
@ArtiePenguin13 ай бұрын
@@Crazypostman I'd still stick with Lectron. The A2Z adapter's locking latch is terrible, you have to manually activate it both to lock and unlock. If only A2Z could fix that, it would be great. Tom Molog (couldn't spell his full last name) said that more heat measured on the outside of the adapter is good. Heat dissipation is a good thing. For better or for worse, Lectron had the least amount of heat dissipation. So while the exterior ambient temps might be lower on the Lectron adapter, it's a bad thing in a counterintuitive way.

@@ArtiePenguin1 I have the A2Z, the plastic quality is top notch... Lots of glass fiber in the plastic making it *really* sturdy. The NACS latch is a bit annoying, but honestly it's fine.

A business entity can say that all day long for extra $$$$$. That does not always mean the approved version is perfect.

Sure will be nice when all EV's use NACS connectors and this whole adapter business goes away. Wonder if Francis Energy will ever change out CCS cables for NACS? Since they never fix anything, its doubtful.
