My Dad served his time in the 50's, I served my time in the 70's. I have never, ever seen a brickie walling bricks on his knees. I'm out of the buildings now and thank God. I don't even recognise Bricklaying anymore. 90% of them can't build a corner and the rest couldn't lay in bed straight.

Ever had osteopo arthritis in both hips . If you did you would understand why I need to kneel for the first few courses . I served my time in the eighties and I can build a corner and lay a bed straight . If you’re so glad to be out of it why are you watching it on KZbin?

When we bought our house in the 1980s it has a single line brick wall at the front of the house bordering the street and it had collapsed. It was rebuilt with double brick thickness and it's still holding up to this day. We found out though that brick walls are expensive. It cost us £1000 back then. It was under 19ft wide (excluding the gap for the path and garden gate).
@SteveAndAlexBuild
@SteveAndAlexBuild Жыл бұрын
Yes a single skin wall is never ideal unless it’s very low . That wall you got would cost a fortune now as bricks alone cost roughly £1.20 each, back when yours was done they would have need about 30 p 😬🧱👍🏽

My neighbour employed a bunch of what turned out to be Cowboys in the middle of July to build 2 walls. After 5 months, 6 brickies and a load of hassle, it was all finished today. Thats after the initial company went bust. Yes now middle of December from middle July. Then some wonder why tradespeople get bad names. @@ryanr1237 my old block front wall I re painted when we moved in, was a 5” gap between the bottom block to a paver edger, the concrete had broken in places over time with standing water and was an eyesore. I cut it out and re did it, I haunched it for run off and painted black. Looks mint. No green or cracking since. Even some black masonry paint will make it blend in, tidy job nonetheless.

Maghul… been there years ago…site of the mental hospital (near the railway)…plans were to build a new prison on the site, so it got demolished… built out of HUGE special bricks, about twice the size of regular bricks…then the government pulled the funding…so only one new prison got built, in London, next door to Bellmarsh, and called HMP Thameside…

Hi, I have a quick question and this could be because the way the footage has been taken but the coping stone on the pier seems to be sticking out a lot. Just for anyone's benefit, I am just a keen 'diyer' rather than any kind of trades so it could be a simple answer to this. I am aware that you have to allow for some space between the wall and the edge of the coping stone for the rain water to drip down. Thanks.

Seems to me that the metalwork expansion pushed the pillars apart and weakened the whole wall. Metal and brick dont go together dont you agree?

The garden wall don't look good but where is the danger here, it's not high so it can't fall on anyone. The house owners might of had a go there self's as might not had the money to pay for a bricklayer, seen worse walls
