Lol HD video of 2 guys making a connect... that was probably taken 6 months before this episode. I work on rigs and I can promise you rigs all over the world still do it this way. Yes if you're not paying attention you will get killed. Usually people get weeded out really quickly.. either get scared, they get slapped around a bit and quit trying to claim osha and osha laughs at them, or you listen to your coworkers, pay attention, keep your head on a swivel and you'll be okay. I've only been to the hospital once due to work related injuries and I literally blew my ankle out walking down stairs (100% my own fault)

I worked on a cattle station in central QLD Australia as a fencer and musterer. Helicopter musterer is probably the closest thing to a 100% fatal job I can think of, most don't last more than a season or 2 and all the older pilots have crashed at least once. There are almost 0 regulations and there would be up to 10 helicopters all within a tiny area really low to the ground all flying in different directions chasing cattle. They were nuts. In the 8 years I worked there 11 pilots died and around 30 accidents happened.

Roughneck’s absolutely still wrestle pipe. Definitely faster with humans. Was on a ungoverned rig once upon a time back before all the regulations came into play, and we could sink 10,000 feet of pipe and pull it all out in a 12 hour shift. We were paid by the foot not the hour so every chance we got we were moving as fast as possible

You guys don't understand the forces involved...To people that don't climb those big long falls look dangerous but they are actually less dangerous then the 10 foot fall on a static rope. Climbing rope is really stretchy and the longer rope helps absorb a TON of impact. If the guy did what Woody suggested and just had a 3 foot rope attached to a pipe every 20 foot, if the guy had a fall in just the middle he would be guaranteed just about to break his back or neck from the impact of the dramatic stop you make. So all the static rope would do is keep his paralyzed body from hitting the ground...You need this gear called "screamers". Most people that do work high up use this item. It's a lanyard with bunched up section. These sections are sew together in certain way that they unravel and pop once a certain amount of force is reached to dramatically take the force on your back off.

What’s crazier is that they haven’t made pulley tow system rather than a Fuckin ladder. Sure there is a ladder and even the side rail like woody suggested. But it should really be a winch built into the top with a cable running down that you hook into a harness, you follow the steps of the ladder but the winch is doing most of the work. They would save a lot of money. The winch repair man would get paid a little more to fix breaks that would very very very rarely happened
