hi ,, thanks for this .. can you add a talk back to this device?

Hi, yes there s a way to do this with some clever patching in the device, it s described in the manual on the Dangerous site

I am very new to production and I know this video alone is well outside of my knowledge-- so apologies if this question doesn't even make sense: I recently purchased the Source as the interface I own (RME Babyface Pro) is far too hot for my speakers and does not have a physical knob for attenuation, and I wanted to protect my ears/monitors in case the digital level was ever reset by accident. I am now trying to understand the other aspects of this device and I am a bit confused. Should I be routing my DAW output to the Source directly over USB and then to my monitors, or routing to my interface over USB, then to the Source (with what connection?) and finally the monitors? If I need to go from my interface first before the source for best quality, I don't know if I can do SPDIF into the Source as my interface only has Optical or XLR output. Lastly, is there any difference in routing for best quality vs lowest latency? Thank you in advance for the help, my head is spinning a bit trying to understand this 😅

Hey no worries, happy to help. Unfirtunately your RME does not a digital out expcept the optical one which the Source doesn't accept. How I would hook this up: 1. Use the RME as your converter from your DAW 2. Hook up the source USB to use as your converter from your computer for normal audio (KZbin, Spotify etc.) 3. Connect your XLR outputs of the RME to the XLR inputs of the source 4. Connect the Source XLR ouputs to your speakers. 5. You could experiment with a converter box to turn the optical digital out of the RME into a SPDIF coaxial signal that the Source can accept. I am 99% sure this will improve audio quality. You could try this inexpensive converter. Just make sure the optical out on the RME is set to 2 channel Toslink, NOT ADAT: www.amazon.com/Optical-Converter-Bi-Directional-Repeater-ROOFULL/dp/B01N32C5GT/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2AVEQFRVWW4WA&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.xF0YbCI4BsJI7EgCGhXhfUOMRijh9MenB2JKicDdvX4x-g2pPpgz8uGycK2VTHLlrXrWcryOwepS2edV5z7B3mvps7oa5vU5q2kiqj08odTfcrtnkHVe09bY0DSQeAg9GCuToEse9zcU16npn42_NLNt9JKxehWi2p8IHbYMEwte_HEX0_dkZer4tdubgteCSClyoi0r4l5hYa106RLmE9Gt7zB-hr0yGXDpCbTaJ3c.zcnSjv2UnWZ2exFO3nd-Qcyrdo3waRG6_Mf3y7T2S8o&dib_tag=se&keywords=Tendak%2BOptisk%2BSPDIF%2BToslink%2Btill%2Bkoaxial%2Beller%2Bkoaxial%2Btill%2Boptisk%2BSPDIF%2BToslink%2Bdigital&qid=1723008148&sprefix=tendak%2Boptisk%2Bspdif%2Btoslink%2Btill%2Bkoaxial%2Beller%2Bkoaxial%2Btill%2Boptisk%2Bspdif%2Btoslink%2Bdigital%2B%2Caps%2C397&sr=8-4&th=1 Good uck with it, if you get stuck just write me on the chat button of my store rapidflow.shop and I'll walk you through it.

@@RapidFlow_Shop Thank you for the incredibly thorough response! I will be trying out some of this soon. One last thing that I just want to make sure I understand-- Up until now I have been selecting the Source as my output in my DAW and using the USB connection to it to output to the monitors. Is this method inferior in any way (quality or latency) to using the RME as my converter or one of the other Source methods like the SPDIF converter? Thank you again, this is beyond helpful for peace of mind as I don't have the ears/room to know if I am getting the quality I purchased haha

@@CerboneMusic Hey I had written a response to this but it didn't go through it seems... Using the source as the output from your DAW will incur higher latency that if you select the RME and go out via ADAT to the SPDIF box and then into the Source via Coaxial SPDIF. This is the only setup with your interface where you will get the low latency of the RME with the reduced cable runs and better conversion quality of the Source... Hope that helps

@@RapidFlow_Shop no worries!! This answer is exactly why I asked about this though-so thank you so much for helping clear this up. My ears are not trained yet so I need to have some peace of mind about this area until I can hear the difference myself. Cheers man 🙏🏻🙏🏻
