7 Billion is nothing. Throw in a few more centuries of genetic research, robotic automation, a new power source (most likely widespread nuclear if fusion doesn't work out), a renewable source of oil via genetically modified bacteria vats (oil for industry/materials, not power - nuclear has power covered), next generation VR and/or brain implants to keep people happy... I'd say 7 Trillion is a pretty easy point to reach. Now, keeping 7 Trillion people from killing eachother, THAT'S the hard part... especially when a couple thousand of them are mining asteroids massive enough to wipe out all life on earth.
