I didn’t get married until I was 32 and on my wedding day, as I was standing behind my husband with my niam tais ntsuab, I looked over and saw my dad on the couch wiping his tears. He didn’t need to say a word. I felt the power of his love. ❤

I’m in tears every time I listen to this song. My wedding day was the first time my dad held me close in his arms, and cried. He said: In this life time, I only get to hold you twice meaningfully. Once when you were first born, and second, now, when you are leaving my heart/chest. Let me hold onto you a little longer. It made me so sad. I realized that I should had hugged him more growing up. My dad was such a tough guy and never let us kids see him cry, but when I left to start my own life at 18, it was the first time seeing him cry in tears it made me so hurt, he didn’t say much to me when I was about to leave, but I know that deep down he wanted to hold me one last time before I left. When I was young and stupid, I used to be angry when the girl's father didn't allow me to date his daughter. I was such a pitiful mess in those days. This song is the anthem for my relationship with my dad. He would wake me up early to go fishing with him. We got to play soccer with his friends at the park almost every Friday. We took so many family trips as kids and were always on a family adventure. On the day I got married, more than 17+ years ago, he pulled me aside, into my brothers room and had a heartfelt conversation with me, with almost these exact words. He and I both cried. We still have a great relationship and I am very lucky to live near my parents, so we still get to do all the above mentioned things together. *Following his lead, my brother just had his first baby girl and I see the way he looks at her and know, she's going to be incredibly loved and protected by him.

I love this song soo much! As a hmong daughter these lyrics hits hard. Growing up my dad was barely around because he had 2 wife, and my mom raised us alone. However whenever we need my dad he never shut us down. And his name and title he carried gave us the respect we have. During my wedding, everyone’s lecture didn’t hit me as hard as my dad. I never seen my dad cried ever, but that day he shed tears and it made me bawl my eyes out. I knew he wanted to say more but he was trying to hold back his tears and tried to be tough….
