I feel like a bunch of California breaks--Lowers, Steamer Lane, Malibu, and Huntington--ought to be in Episode 2 for surf history. Probably the various breaks around Waikiki for the same reason.

Love the time and effort you put into these. Would be stoked to have even some of these places checked off the list. I hit pavones in April and your video really helped! Had the longest wave of my life!!

HB local here. Like all other breaks, they have their days that they go off, but HB is few and far between. What makes HB is it's consistently. At least you get out in the water. Now Rincon, Malibu and Lowers are great waves with insane crowds. So glad I surfed these spots through the 70s-90s when getting waves was a lot easier. Now, there's no way. The animals can have it.

Best wave I ve ever surfed by a mile was Desert Point. Fast, shallow and scary, but well worth it. Peace

I have surfed most of those included in the video and I agree with you. Definitely the most machine-like

Dan like you said how heavy Pipeline and Cloudbreak is it truly is insane how easy the pros make these waves look so much so that you mind surf it with them😂

Totally agree, super heavy waves in real life haha!

Hi there, Dan! On the Jeffrey’s comments, it is you surfing? It seems to me YES…good surf, man! By the way, I’m almost 70 years old, from Florianópolis, just came back from Lobitos, and I had a great time at Piscinas and 3 Cruzes…cheers

J Bay is frigging awesome and Shaun Thompson ruled that place in the 70’s and 80’s . The only problem is it’s very sharky 🦈 😅

The secret of surfing J Bay is that the power source of the wave is not in the trough but 3 quarters of the way up. You have to stay high and know where the wave slows down to do critical manoeuvres or ride the tube. You get to know it after some time spent. Favourite surfers that drives the point home would be Joel Parkinson, Jordy.

Surfed pumping J-Bay 2 weeks ago, fantastic wave.

It’s a shame that Dan goes all the way there , and doesn’t know how to surf down the line speed, he only wants to surf the slow part of the wave to try and improve his moves! Missing the point I think

As they always say on the WSL it is an easy (that's a relative term) wave to surf but hard to surf well. When there is size it opens up a bit but it gets super crowded and on big days and getting caught on the inside at impossibles can give you an uncomfortable work out. The paddle out can be very tricky if you don't know the key holes. The rocks are sharp with some rock banks filled with rock mussels which are not very friendly on the feet. Once you have it taped you will avoid point as it can't touch supers in terms of power, speed and hollowness (only perhaps on a really big day the top of point can pitch a proper barrel)

Seems to me actually making J Bay all the way through,would be more of a blast and impressive, than Attempting a cutback and blowing it , missing out on 100s of metres of speed wall .

i am a 65 surfer i am a low intermediate. why don't you make a video where you suggest places that fits surfer of my age. but remember the over 60 likes to surf not only long board and adds in which season fits a 60 yo surfer.

Snappers accurate, best and worst surfs , it's mostly too crowded and if even half pumping and you cant hang with the pros in terms of take off position etc. you're not getting waves, that said there's heaps of uncrowded pockets along that stretch where you can have great surfs. 6-8ft Cloudbreak isn't tiny.. that's massive (in aus ratings) especially on shallow reef.. you're a sick surfer screw sending it on stuff like that, live to surf another day!
@exxotixjeff28226 ай бұрын
That’s true, if you only surf Snapper you’re always going to be frustrated, but down the line can be often unnoticed by the hordes
