Papusas! Yes! Thanks for sharing the same frustrations and rewards I experience. Way to nail the whole surf trip vibe. So cool!

Thanks so much for watching! I’m glad I’m not the only one who experiences the highs and lows of the sport. I think it’s important to share the realities of surfing, especially when one is still learning.

Wow thank you so much for the kind words! I think it’s important for people to see how difficult it is when learning to surf, but also share the stoke. It’s a life long journey! Thanks for following along 😃

@ oh that’s awesome. Beautiful waves and beautiful country. We actually just came back from our second trip to El Salvador, but this time we stayed in el zonte. Working on the video now so it may be up in 2 weeks or so.

PS the invitation is always open here on Vancouver Island! There are a lot of surf spots here that are not crowded and have easier waves. You my skill level is not all that great myself. It would be cool to see the both of you up here.

Hey Greg thanks so much for watching! Yes we still need to come up to your parts to surf! Looks they’re great spots for Jimmy to SUP surf as well.

Great job!! 👏🏄🏻♀️ I’m glad you stuck with it and had fun. I was in ES for a week surf retreat, got beaten down at El Zonte among other things. Surfing is humbling and now that my many wounds from all the rocks have healed I’m feeling the itch to keep going on this ridiculous adventure. Thanks for the inspiration!
@JimmyxMelanieАй бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yeah sometimes when I think about it, surfing is kind of ridiculous isn’t it lol. But I’ve loved every milestone along the way. Where did you go in El Zonte? We’re going back to ES for a week at puro surf in 2 weeks.
@taras2398Ай бұрын
@@JimmyxMelanie nice! I hear they take people to la Paz a lot. For El Zonte we were right of the point break, however the paddle out was really hard that day, I was on a different board with a lot less volume and a pointy nose and my turtle rolls were a mess. Also it was a big, heavy day. Being a strong paddler would have helped a lot. PS what size / volume board is your friend Chris riding?
@JimmyxMelanieАй бұрын
Ah yes that sounds a lot like my time there lol. Chris’ board is a mini Simmons. 6x22x2.75 41ltrs

You are essentially a beginner. Try to find joy in the process and the beauty of just being in the ocean. Learning is not easy. Don’t be hard on yourself.
@JimmyxMelanie28 күн бұрын
Thanks! El Salvador was very humbling and made me realize I’m still very much a beginner. Thanks for the kind words. I have very few days in the year that I can surf so I think I get hyper focused on results instead of just having fun. Thanks for watching!

El Sunzal has waves for all levels of surfers. It is a "fat" wave and the longest in El Salvador. It's super famous, don't know why your guide did not take you there, it's right in El Tunco.
@JimmyxMelanie24 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip! We are heading back to El Salvador this coming week, so maybe we can check El Sunzal this time. Thank you for watching!
@taras239822 күн бұрын
It’s a really long paddle out
@JimmyxMelanie22 күн бұрын
@ yikes. Thanks for the heads up!
@roca710822 күн бұрын
@JimmyxMelanie the long paddle is only for the outer surf, inside the point break of El Sunzal is El Sunzalito, you'll get plenty of waves there without going all the way out. If you want a local surf coach in El Tunco that can take you there look for Bamba Díaz, one of the best surf coaches in the area.
@trevorsowderАй бұрын
Woohoo!!! Such a great video my friend. Stoked to see you ripping those turns and getting down the line! Looks like El Salvador waves don't play around.
@JimmyxMelanieАй бұрын
Hey Trevor thanks for watching! Yeah El Salvador is a whole different beast. I’m going back soon during their summer season and the waves are supposed to be smaller. So hopefully this next time rough won’t be so rough 😅

Can you work remotely for an extended time instead of paying crazy amount of money for surf camps that aren’t really helping you. Time in water is key and clearly you don’t commit to that. Although I don’t blame you with the cold waters that are available to you. Just my 2pesos. Hope this helps. Puro surf is great (I’ve stayed at the hostel) but an extended stay somewhere cheaper could be better. Eventually it clicks.
@JimmyxMelanieАй бұрын
I appreciate that and have thought about it myself many times. I know that if I could surf consistently I’d progress faster. Unfortunately I’m a veterinarian so there’s not a lot of remote work options. And I’d definitely commit to surfing more frequently if it wasn’t a 2 hour drive one way. But honestly I don’t mind paying for the trips. It’s a vacation and I get to visit a new location. So it’s my only option for now until I can figure out something else.
@rudyrod5147Ай бұрын
@@JimmyxMelanie that makes more sense now. I’m just glad you guys tried a new spot out! Costa Rica is great but there’s more to see! For your skill level you probably should have surfed less mizata and more el zonte or k59. Keep at it!
@rudyrod5147Ай бұрын
Also getting into paddle shape is paramount. Swim or take a smaller board to the swimming pool. That way one obstacle is removed. I say this as a sad land locked surfer 😭 once or twice a week will make a difference once it’s surf trip time.
@JimmyxMelanieАй бұрын
@@rudyrod5147 thanks! Yeah it was definitely time to explore outside CR, though I’m sure we’ll go back some day. El Zonte is next, Kauai in the summer during a work trip, and possibly The Philippines in the fall to visit my grandma who is turning 100!
@JimmyxMelanieАй бұрын
@@rudyrod5147 yes I’ve though about this as well! I’ve been using the paddle bands daily at home in preparation for this next trip so we’ll see if those help any. If I fail miserably then definitely swimming will be added to my land locked surf routine! Thanks for the tips and for watching!
