Hi Dan, I had a fitting for a GT Driver last week, compared to Callaway and TaylorMade my stats were so much better, on average a 15 yard increase in distance against my current Paradym. Yes, the price is ridiculous but with a trade in it's just about affordable. Thanks for the review.
@charlieoscar4 ай бұрын
Hi Dan, thanks for the review, very informative. You asked for comments on the prices and it got me thinking. Perhaps one perspective is that there has never been a better time for 'inclusivity' and getting people into the game and into good gear. The consistent 2 year cycle and the big price tags mean that I could go out and buy a modern, fast, forgiving driver for a new player for a very reasonable price. With Titleist alone you can get into fast drivers in the TS for small money, and the tsi3 is probably one of the greatest drivers ever made, and because of the 2 year cycle it is now 3 generations old, and so has a three gen old price tag. If you go to Taylor made or Cobra for instance, you can go even further back as titleist were slow getting into the speed and forgiveness category, and get even better prices for newbies. I would argue that this is the same across all categories of clubs. There has never been more golf clubs out there to buy at good prices. Personally I am going to trade up from TSR2 to the GT3 for 2 reasons. 1, because it reminds me of the old 905 and as you say the TS and the TSI3, and 2, if I don't trade now I won't change for years as I won't pay the full new retail price. Everyone has a choice. I still take my 915 for a spin and love it.. no-one is twisting anyone's arm people. So do what makes you happy. Keep up the great work Dan.

Why don’t mfrs sell head only, whenever the adaptor is the same. This would offer a cheaper upgrade for existing owners? ….just a thought.

Because they are greedy baskets, they do shaft deals that give them a kick back. I’ve just purchased new irons, in the fitting process, found a shaft that i loved, manufacturer wouldn’t fit it in my club of choice. Irons were £1200 as it was, if i had purchased heads, shafts, paid a club builder to assemble, getting the swing weight, loft and lie right, it was £2600. So stuffed

Good, honest review Dan - I have the TSR3 in the bag (that is behaving fairly well) and usually I would get a fitting for the new product - but I am holding back simply because the prices are too high! I am more inclined to keeping my current model in the bag & put the cash towards a golf break etc

Hi Dan. I just had my Titleist fitting with the GT woods today. As a senior lady golfer, I need a fairway wood that preforms and provides distance. Was fitted for GT 2 4 wood. 16.5 degrees. I saw a 15 mph speed increase with the GT 2 over my current 3 wood. I was also fitted for a GT 2 driver10.5 degree. I ordered the 4 wood and traded in my current 3 wood Ping and 2 other clubs. Yes these clubs are very expensive but I sale or trade in a club for another 1. I didn’t order the driver.

Got a tsi3 for £220 last year. Love it. Not gonna change for a £300 uplift even if I got a good trade in. When the time comes I will try a few and then probs go 2nd hand. I spent the big money on a set of irons. Hit them on every hole every round and had my last set a very long time. Will be the same with these. I think prices are truly bonkers and just fuelling marketing through players and facilities etc. big challenge coming from direct to consumer particularly if they get a fitting option in some way. More and more I think the SAS model will be the way for many golfers. 2nd hand clubs, first class experiences like memberships and 'Bus Tours'

Awesome video Dan. I was custom fit for TRS3 last Sept. and TSR2 in early 2022. The 3 is by far the best driver I've ever played and I've been playing just over 30 yrs. I just cant justify dropping $650 this year for maybe 5 yards max. I'll play the 3 for a few more years at the most when i retire in 5 years. From So CA: Very nice review, indeed. That lovely golf course really beckons people doesn't it? The more I watch your video, the more jealous I get seeing you out there all by yourself! Anyway I have an older Titleist titanium driver that I had re-shafted with a premium Fujikura. Often off the shelf clubs have shafts that are mediocre / not really suited for specific player. Hitting pro V 1 with Titleist titanium driver has a lovely sound in my opinion; not "tinny". The 3 wood and 5 wood have always been go to clubs for me, as I am not a long hitter. As for your question on purchasing high line equipment, there is a dark cloud over golf enthusiasts in America and it is a crushing inflationary spiral. In the past, we have been more than happy to pull the trigger on expensive golf equipment. With everything up between 20% to as much as 90% "belt tightening" austerity has been severe. Priority lists have been totally overhauled. Golfing expenditures have suffered, even for diehards, as have all other "non essentials".

After getting fitted and swinging the AI smoke max, the Qi10 and GT3 AND GT4. The results are marginal across the board, with not one driver having a tremendous advantage over another. The distances seemed to matter only off of ball height and decent angle. Qi10 9 degree, high flight and less roll GT3 9 degree, mid high flight and more roll AI smoke max 9 degree, mid high flight and more roll All tested with fujikura blue 6x velocore shaft 45" I decided to choose the AI smoke max spending another $50.00 US., at already high prices across the board. I couldnt afford it. The AI smoke max sounded very well also when being struck and looked good also while addressing the ball I would love to have the GT3 in the bag but 🤷♂️

I think there’s two issues, first it wouldn’t be bad if there were a plethora of stock shafts but everything seems to be pushed towards up charge (in the fittings) and second although new clubs are ridiculously expensive the second hand price is still low so price to change is also relatively high.. 🙈🙈👍👍

It occurs to me that Titleist seems to have geared up their technologies used in both the drivers and woods. Namely a new crown material plus new face technology (L shape/face cup). In the past there was the ARC technology which now is no longer in use. Instead, Titleist is now using a technology which is in use by Callaway for nearly a decade. Can it be that Alan Hocknell - who was head of R&D with Callaway - has brought some new technologies over to Titleist? Moreover, it seems that the face cup technology is superior to the ‚old‘ ARC. Since I’m using a TSI3 driver and TSI2 fairway wood I definitely will check out the new ones. Great test - by the way. 😊

How is that inclusive for the disabled or elderly who need a buggy every time they play? You'll also pay £5-800 for a decent electric trolley. As for clubs having become too expensive: The old clubs are probably still good enough to get around in 90 shots or less. So new clubs' prices don't carry weight as a demonstration of golf's exclusivity in my opinion. And there's always the used market for those searching for their first set. Three solid years of inflation - and counting - has certainly not left the price of luxury goods & experiences untouched. The blame for its impacts do not lie at the golf industry's feet, however. #Perspective PS, Will not be going for a fitting with Titleist. I was loyal to them when they were loyal to you - and I'm not kidding. Other than supporting brands that support DHG Media - and doing so exclusively for that reason - I am agnostic on the topic of brand loyalty.

However this review of the GT driver does tick some of the boxes I like, the sound being the obvious one, technology being the other. The price is just plain stupid. Close to £600 for a driver is obscene. The £300+ for fairway woods again is just too expensive. If the prices were keener maybe more players thinking of a new driver this year would consider Titleist rather than just dismissing it like when PXG came into golf with their untried untested by the masses driver which was £1000. I can understand the market being unhappy with the prices, but I don’t agree with it making the game less inclusive. Companies make new product every (other) year. This leaves more and more and more on the used/older-model market. Every year those prices go down.. and like the overwhelming consensus is, the new stuff is only fractionally better. OK, so you can’t get the newest model cuz it’s too expensive? Get a 3 year old model and get 99% performance for 40-60% of the cost🤙🏻
