I think what Chris has just explained was very on point and simple. While I’m no coach or teacher have have to agree that you should make it as simple as possible,so you can repeat,repeat,repeat,the more you complicate things to harder it is to repeat. I’ve always loved playing around with clubs and using the same simple swing,and leaning of swinging with different clubs obviously can change distances and the how high the ball can go. If I’m playing a 30yrd I will often take my 52 and play a longer and lower shot. But again I love to test myself just keep it simple

His move is very much like Stricker or Jason Day, and last I checked their short games were pretty good! Glad he said weight central. The weight on the left side idea just doesn’t work for me at all. Totally agree with having fewer variables, especially when you don’t play much like me. Really enjoyed this Gilly and Dan!

I liked the instruction, this is coming from someone struggling with this part of my game. The point with any of these instructional golf (youtube or lessons) is 'practice' to instill confidence in the technique. Practice is sometimes hard to find the time outside of just turning up on the course and 'giving it a go' and hoping it clicks first time.

I liked this video - this coming from someone who has been struggling with this part of my game recently. I think, as with any kind of instruction, practice in honing the technique is key. Just rocking up on the course and hoping it clicks will not instill the missing component most 'sufferers' need to have in order to apply it successfully and that is 'confidence'. Thanks, I'll be giving it a go for sure.

Wow, Gilly has nailed that completely, for someone who has created variables in all walks of life, golf no exception, this is absolute gold. Takes away stress, is simple to perform, and it plain works. Golf is tough enough anyway, why make it harder. So pleased you added this Dan. Does Gilly use the same body rotation technique for his main swing too or is this purely for chipping and pitching? Hope to see more of Gilly's tips on channel in 25

That action does work for a lot of people but I have tried that method but it doesn't work for me. I find that if you use the left hand to cock the wrists slightly on the way back you get the perfect angle to strike the ball on the follow through as long as you keep turning.

Whoa,whoa, whoa, I've spent the last 10 years hearing everyone say forward shaft lean is the devil when pitching/chipping, it exposes the leading edge and removes the bounce, what's all this "we must have shaft lean" business ?

Dan Grieve ' chipping is good but I think a bit too elaborate for us mere mortals whereas Chris' way is much more consistent and easier to apply once you have the 'knack'.......simples...🌟🎊🤩🥳

Love this but not comfortable with the excessive shaft lean. Doesn’t that take all the bounce out of the equation? 😧
@chrisgill5883Ай бұрын
It’s not excessive shaft lean, it was to show that you have to have positive shaft lean and not negative shaft lean. That’s what causes poor contact in my opinion.
@jaypeegolfАй бұрын
@@chrisgill5883 Thanks Chris. I follow Dan Grieve and this appears to be contrary to his mantra hence my question. He promotes a much more neutral shaft position. Perhaps my suggestion that it was excessive was a stretch. 👍
@Golfing-AddiCtАй бұрын
@@jaypeegolfthere is a difference between the two styles of chipping, Chris's style is like the Phil Mickelson style which is often referred to as the hinge and hold method, Dan teaches a more release type of method, but they are both very connected, using the bigger muscles to control and turn.

This lesson seems to be the complete opposite of what is taught by Dan Grieve. Are these two different approaches just situation dependent?

Dan grieve has managed to explain short game to the masses by the 3 release patterns he talks about, its not a groundbreaking technique however his an amazing teacher. Chris was a tour player and if you look and almost any great short game player the arms stay connected to the chest and the main thing is to rotate through so that the sternum faces target. Luke donald is/was one of the best in the world at this for a very long time. Dont get drawn into what release you need to play, start understanding the shot in front of you, the lie etc and with good technique the shot can be executed.
@BeachBow12 күн бұрын
There's no such thing as a 'simple' wedge shot. Too many variables are involved. Lie, shot distance, weather, and as if that wasn't enough, how does the golfer feel at that point in time. That's why, even more that any of the other clubs, wedge shots are the most complicated. And they should be the most practices along with putting. But most golfers just buy a large bucket and blast away with the driver. JM2C
