Im pretty sure a formula like (previous water temperature) +/- (percent change in demical x change in water tempeture) = new temperature would be a good way to estimate.

Thanks man for putting my mind at ease.

I've been using cold water for partial water changes for ages. I do a slow refill through an HMA filter (so no chemicals).

In our Australian summers our tap water comes out at about the same temperature as the aquariums so, no problems at all until the cooler months. 👍

I'm in Australia aswell I'm guessing you also experienced heat waves this summer. I had to use an aquarium fan just to cool the water. So what fish do you have and what temp is your tank

A mathematician I know gave me a formula for working out how much my water temperature would change. 😊 If you think about it, a lot of fish species rely on rain water cooling their habitats to trigger spawning too.

Water isn't easy to calculate. Water has an unusual resistance to changing temperature. (water is weird stuff)

With my community fish, I try to be within 5 deg of the tank temp. Seems to work for me. I also usually try to stay a little cooler on the refill though. Good video. 👍

Well.....the issue with solvent minerals it's not really valid if you have a Planted Tank. The plants love top off because they can consumed all that good stuff in the water!
@DanHiteshew-oneandonly4 жыл бұрын
It depends on what's in the water. Plants can only use so much calcium, magnesium, iron, etc... Not to mention nitrates and bacterial loads. Literally everything that isn't water builds up with repeated top-offs.

@@DanHiteshew-oneandonly I don't disagree at all.....but plants like the Buckweed would literally consumed mos of the soluble minerals in the water very fast. I don't like topping off either but when you have a heater is a necessity.

You could breed a load of Cory's like that

Whoever's moderating these comments is going to be bored AF if they're not into aquariums.
