@Mr Mavvy Jaded in the sense that anyone who watches a lot of magic over a many years is *much* harder to impress. Alyson has seen almost every approach and plot in magic, and she has a strong sense of the structure and grammar of magic even if she's not particularly knowledgable about all its various techniques. She's an awesome host and she knows how to play along but she can't possibly watch magic with the eyes of an average lay person. Dani completely bypassed any defenses she might have had up. He is such a disarming presence that you can almost see the moment (maybe 2 1/2 minutes in?) when she's no longer evaluating and just totally surrenders to the ride.

Alyson's reaction at the end kills me every time and I love it. Not only is she completely in shock after maybe expecting to see another average magic act, you can see her looking to Penn to see what he thought and then she realizes he is just as stunned as she is and she doesn't know what to make of that information. This is a performance for an audience of one. He's taking Teller for a ride, back to the land of wonder from seeing the first card trick as a kid. He's having a conversation with a man that doesn't speak in words. He's explaining, step by step, which trick he will do, and how he will do it. Then he does it and melts Teller's mind. Also entertaining the rest of the world is a side-effect. Being able to experience that wonder is the biggest thing magicians lose when taking up the art, and being able to do it to another magician is a mark of mastery. Chasing the feeling is the stated goal by P&T for doing the show. Watch the video again, and look at Teller exclusively. Watch how he slowly is transformed from judge to fellow magician to spectator to kid in a candyshop. THAT is the real magic trick on display here, and it is a once-in-a-generation masterpiece.

That might actually be one of the greatest card tricks ever performed. Shin Lim included. That was absolutely stunning. I will have to watch that a few times. A work of art. I love teller’s face…. There’s no doubt he psychologically played them. But being enthralled, it was easy to fool them. The guy is the best.

@@NT_1 I'm always more impressed by actual Close-Up Magicians than Stage Close-Up Magicians. If Shim tried to do his act in an actual close-up environment (not stage controlled like he has it). None of his "magic" would pass muster.

@@w00master That is true. But who knows maybe Shin lim probably knows some really good closeup acts as well. I'm really into closeup card magic. Lookup Tony Chang and Earnest Ericks Legendary book 'By Forces Unseen' (most likely you've heard of them). I'm studying that book and it is ELITE sleight of hand.

I just discovered this video yesterday. I've probably watched it 50 times. This is some serious stuff. Absolutely amazing. Easily the best card trick I've ever seen. And the most entertaining performance, too. Penn & Teller should just end the show now, there's no way this can be topped. Unless, of course, DaOrtiz comes up with something even better.

That's genuinely the most astonishing magic trick I've ever seen, and over 40 decades I've seen a lot of magic tricks. I'm sat here feeling like I've watched real magic. I don't even want to know how it's done

Debatably the best all time act on Fool Us. Shin Lim’s definitely had the grandeur and artistic talent in addition to skill, but I’ve never seen Penn and Teller have their minds blown this hard. Maybe from Kostya Kimlats first appearance, but he only did one amazing effect rather than several

Yeah and with Kostya, you could see Penn catch the moment that he knew the trick took place, he just couldn't explain it. With this guy, THEY SAW NOTHING!

At 10:10 he is calling him "the greatest, the greatest". Also, there is a video in which Penn calls him the greatest card magician of all times, even above Tamariz (who is Daortiz teacher since he was a kid). kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJXbhWZ4gcR8n80

ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING. And the most beautiful and astounding part is your mother's dedication to supporting your art. She is the real magician.... she made you and recognized your talent. Pure inspiration. Some the best magic I have seen in 3.5 decades of following magic.

The three of hearts on the box is the easiest part to figure out, but he did it so naturally that nobody saw it coming. I think usually Penn watches one hand while Teller watches the other hand for these simple misdetection, but the performance is so captivating that this simple misdirect delights everyone. I went back and rewound it several times and it's amazing.😊

Yeah the 3 of hearts is the easiest to spot but how he forced it to the top, palmed it and placed it on the box 5 seconds after Allison named it is mindblowing
