Danie Theron [Old Afrikaans Film]

Daniël "Danie" Theron (9 May 1872 - 5 September 1900) was a Boer Army military leader, lawyer, and school teacher. During the Anglo-Boer War he led the Theron Reconnaissance Corps, where his successes led to Lord Roberts calling him “the hardest thorn in the flesh of the British advance”. Danie was killed in action while on a solitary scouting mission when he ran into a group of seven British soldiers. He almost managed to kill the entire group of seven (killing three and seriously wounding four), but was outgunned and killed when British field guns opened fire on his position on a nearby koppie.

Gedurende die Anglo-Boereoorlog was hy die hoof van die ‘Theron se Verkenningskorps’, waar Lord Roberts hom "die hardste doring in die vlees van die Britse opmars" genoem het. Danie is dood in aksie terwyl hy alleen op 'n verkenning sending was toe hy hom in 'n groep van sewe Britse soldate vasgeloop het. Hy het byna daarin geslaag om die hele groep van sewe om te bring (drie gedood en vier ernstig beseer), maar hy kon nie die Britse veldkanonne ontsnap wat op hom losgebrand het nie, en hy het op ‘n nabygeleë koppie gesterf.

Unfortunately, I don't know Afrikaner and don'to know too much of Boer history, even though, I deeply admire them and will try to watch to it. I've recently read "God does not forget", from Deneys Reitz. The world, unfortunately as well, tried to picture them as racists, but whoever goes further in its history - which is not a so difficult thing to do - wil realize that this is not true. Long live to Boer, men at their best! A very salute from Brazil!!

I wouldn't admire Boers, they repeatedly fired on British soldiers under white flags as well as dressing as British soldiers to lead them into ambushes. They were dirty fighters.

I was posted to 11 commando - Danie Theron combat school Kimberly in 1981 to do my basic training and intelligence course as part of my 2 years national service.
