The thing that makes Kumiko different from Daniels other girlfriends is that they actually loved eachother. Ali never really loved Daniel, she saw got with someone else as soon as a “better guy” came along, and Jessica already had a boyfriend. Daniel and Kumiko are one of the few teenage couples in cinema where we can say there was actually true love.

But in Cobra Kai, Ali said the guy Daniel thought she was with was actually just her friend. Daniel got jealous & they broke up soon after. The reason why they made Daniel-Jessica relation not romantic was because the wide age gap between Ralph Macchio & Robyn Lively (Jessica's actress) was. He was 26 & she was 16. On-screen, Daniel was 19 & Jessica was 16, so romantic relationship would've felt weird since she was underaged.

I’m glad Jess and Daniel romantic doesn’t matter because I honestly don’t understand why they were deciding to give him a another love interest in the third film anyways🤔 so I think it for the better to keep them as friends. Ail was more of puppy love and the reason why they changed the story with Ail is because the creators didn’t like that Ail dumped him for another guy.

Kumiko was by far my favorite love interest for Daniel but I can understand why she didn't end up being his wife for the Cobra Kai Series. If that happened, they would have had the happily ever after ending, Daniel would be far more forgiving, and the children would be more stable. Cobra Kai would lose over 60% of the drama.

I’d rather have a Daniel-Kumiko relationship and a proper KK3 and would be perfectly fine without the Cobra Kai series. Anyways they could’ve kept Cobra Kai focused entirely on Johnny and only had Daniel as a side character, showing his life with Kumiko, and there would still have been plenty of drama with Johnny’s personal issues.

@@blues3397 i love it just the way her hair was in the movie. Long ago i remember in an interview she talked about her hair in the movie on why she wore it that way. Just could not find the interview or remember where i watch it. Her hair was so long she needed to put it in a bun like a japanese lady would wear it as it was really hot or humid in Hawaii where they shot Okinawa location. I think the wisps escaped her bun all the time. I still love it because it gave her a distinction in looks among others.

They should’ve just stopped with 2 or at least made a proper part 3 with Kumiko and Yukie returning. Cobra Kai gets lots of praise but they didn’t actually fix anything, they brought back Kumiko just enough to remind people of what could have been, which is cruelty in my opinion. The lady they have Daniel with now is boring and doesn’t have the same chemistry he did with even Ali let alone Kumiko, and I’m sorry, but I just can’t buy what they’re selling. You don’t meet a girl like Kumiko and just walk away from her. I refuse to watch Cobra Kai anymore, I’m just gonna pretend Karate Kid II was the end of the series.
