Sean Strickland put on a "masterful performance" to dethrone Israel Adesanya and become the new middleweight champion of the UFC, and Daniel Cormier is LIVE from the octagon in Sydney, Australia to break it all down! DC lets us know why Strickland was able to dominate the fight, and what's next for both Sean and Izzy. Plus, despite Dana White mentioning a rematch, a Sean Strickland vs. Dricus Du Plessis title fight is Cormier's pick for the next middleweight title fight. And don't miss DC give his thoughts on some controversial moments early on in the UFC 293 card.

Facts, not a lot of fighters could pull that off with weight cuts being a factor. Sean had to cut some weight almost immediately after just gaining some again because he wasn’t even sure if he’ll get the fight or not, even after having a small vacation. Adesanya didn’t have to worry, having almost 2 months more over Sean to prep.

Nice to see a fellow homophobe support his buddy. You people that want fighters to be clowns are just sad. A fighter should be determined by his style of fighting. It's honestly why your sport will always be a joke compared to boxing. It's why your athletes don't get paid anything and why the only one that makes money is white. You guys can't make your sport any better because you have such a low class fan base. You clowns want a circus. So go listen to his racial and homophobic slurs and praise him for being the comedian fighter he is buddy. 😂At 1 point you'll realize that your part of the problem. What happens then is up to you

So many people saying “izzy was off” as if that wasn’t completely due to Sean. Izzy did what he almost always if not always does; come out in the first round and make reads. Everything changed when Sean dropped him. I truly believe that’s when it all changed, I believe after that, after all that was said by everyone; izzy couldn’t afford to get Ko’d/Tko’d by Sean and it was more about not getting finished by Sean than anything else. Izzy only started to “look bad” after Sean dropped him. Up until that point that fist round was business as usual. Nobody was saying izzy looked off until AFTER he got dropped LOL

Also, people don't think about what actually happens in their minds INSIDE the cage. Costa couldn't charge against Izzy because he got countered every time. That's what happened to Izzy tonight. He thought he was gonna tear Sean apart with leg and body kicks because he stands straight up. Sean was able to check those and wasn't affected by it. He thought Sean had no punching power but he was the 1st guy to drop him. Izzy also has good jabs and counters and he couldn't jab Sean bc he got countered and he couldn't counter bc Sean didn't overextend himself. There were a few times Izzy tried playing possum like he did against Alex and it just wasn't there for him. Sean and his coaches were smart to it.
@Marcus-gx4jr
@Marcus-gx4jr 8 ай бұрын
@@youngmillionaire7480 yes but that’s all due to Sean. Izzy didn’t look “off” before the knockdown. He was back peddling because Sean is a pressure fighter and Izzy is a counter striker. Izzy is also known For making reads and being a very intelligent fighter; that’s why he was back peddling, he was trying to make reads and counter. Saying he was off is just an excuse to take credit away from how much better Sean was in this particular matchup. And even if he was “off” it’s literally all because Sean clean his clock in that first round.

Izzy didn’t lose cause he was tired due to scheduling. Strickland actually fought later then he did and he has to travel half way across the world jet lagged and all, which Izzy said on his channel will be Sean demise. He was tired because he was fighting on the back foot the entire fight and that is what’s tiring. Constant pressure from Sean. I’ve said Izzy wins his fights on fighters making mistakes ask Poatan. Sean’s defense was incredible and that’s what allowed him to be in on the pressure and not give Izzy space to counter cleanly. He didn’t make any mistakes in there.

Izzy has never been a puncher. Idk if it's just me, but izzy looks awkward when he punches sometimes. Vetorri said izzy is more of a kicker. And Sean's defense shut down all the kicks, and whenever izzy punch Sean wasn't there, OR he clogged up the lane with his arms or a perry, BUT all his perries were never overreacting, he always was blocking the power side whether izzy was ortho or southpaw. It was beautiful to see the, I was so nervous the entire fight but after a while. I felt comfortable, It felt like Sean was never in a position to get hit. The only time I felt danger for him was the center of the octagon. Hence why seam ALWAYS had him against the cage for the duration of the fight. Beautiful really. Sean is a master. I told my girl last night, that all of Sean's sparring has made him so comfortable in the pocket, he's use to punches coming his way, he sees it all. Even Sean himself admitted he doesn’t hit hard. This has also been well-documented. So let’s not act like somehow Izzy was scared of Sean’s “power” of all people. Sean just fought a very technical fight with supreme defense all while putting the pressure on Izzy through very well-selected openings.

Before getting dropped Izzy looked how he normally does with the exception of not being able to land. This only snowballed from the third round where he could not land at all on Strickland and was constantly countered. It wasn't an off night, Strickland deserves the credit for his team and his own hard work and gameplan. Very happy for Strickland and I am sure Israel will be back.

incredible, incredible distance management. walks and pressures himself just out of Izzy's range, never over extends or darts in giving Izzy a chance for his counter attacks and made Izzy swing and miss alot all while walking back for 25 mins. Izzy didn't look like himself all due to Sean's pressure and truly underated/over looked distance management. Interesting rematch potential if/when it happens as I think they'll have to meet Sean in the middle and even then.. that's a difficult fight for Izzy.

I had no doubt whatsoever that Sean would take him out. I was really surprised he was such an underdog in the fight. People look at maybe one or 2 of Strickland's fights that he lost and that defines his career to them. The guy has always been a monster that might have a couple losses, but overall he is unaffected by most punches he takes and no matter what, keeps coming forward. Izzy knew his punches were going to be nothing to him. He just tried to stay away and hope he got a lucky kick KO somehow. He is still an amazing kickboxer, but if you really look at his fights he compares to Mike Tyson when it comes to breaking your opponent down before the fight even starts. If you look at past press conferences Izzy beat almost all his opponents verbally destroying all the moral they had going into fights against him. You could see in Izzys eyes before the opening bell that he was already broken, about to go up against a man he knew had no fear of him whatsoever.

Yeah but compare how much Sean has fought. He fought maybe more than Izzy and came to fight with short notice. Idk if Izzy being overworked is excuse. Best excuse is he was mentally drained from presser and the negative stuff that came out, tbh.
@ShitWrangler
@ShitWrangler 8 ай бұрын
Sean framed his defense well for parrying offense, he had perfect leg kick defense tensing up and checking, even when unnecessarily, nearly every exchange. He controlled a safe distance and never went crazy until the final ten seconds of the fight or when he had Izzy hurt in the first round and smothered his own repetitive offense that failed to finish the fight. It was perfect 'switched on' fighting from Strickland, and if he can maintain that level of alertness in the future Izzy can never beat him.

I think Sean's defense was obviously better than people even realized he's a great boxer for MMA, but aside from that I think Izzy was also concussed for the rest of the fight which could have effected his accuracy and how he fought for the rest of the fight, fighters recover after they get knocked down but not completely, IMO. not that this means he'll win the rematch, I don't think so

He wasn't out on his feet or drained he was clipped by a punch he thought he dodged. He recovered and defended the follow ups well. Izzy just has nothing if the person has no holes in their defense and they're his size. If kelvin was 2 inches taller we wouldn't even have to pretend like Izzy is that great. Kelvin beat the brakes off Izzy.
