Look how amazing Daniel is here. He’s so wise. He doesn’t talk a lot. When asked about roles he regrets taking he refuses to speak, because he knows it’s not worth it to offend the people he made those films with for the cheap entertainment of the current audience. Instead of taking a bunch of time he just quietly listens intently to everyone. In fact instead of telling anyone anything he asks Ellen page a question. He’s so curious. I’m finding that I don’t have to hear Daniel Day Lewis speak to learn from him about his process. He teaches more important lessons in his silence than many do in their speeches.

Exactly. Thank you for writing it down so correctly.

Beautifully put but I wanna ask more specifically what you wrote here in your second paragraph...what did you learn about his process from his silence exactly? Anything else apart from that he's genuinely curious?

Really solid points. Actually, I'd be curious to know what films DDL regrets doing. I think he's been stellar in all of them and they've been of high quality. Ok, maybe that remake of Fellini's 8 1/2 weeks. But it's not like it wasn't without merit, and he was good in it. Perhaps he's referring to the vibe on some of the sets he's encountered.

Well, the films are out there. Clooney is actually a real solid actor with impressive range. Syriana, The American, The Ides of March, The Descendants, O Brother Where Art Thou, etc. He may not have the chops of Day-Lewis, but not many do. Still, he's more than just a handsome guy, etc. He is definitely talented. People shouldn't dwell on his early work, like E.R., or even Oceans 11, but the film roles he's evolved with.

I completely understand your frustration, but you have to remember that this man literally *becomes* every single character he has ever been to a very soulful, almost spiritual level. Regardless of how amazing he is (and by God, he is!), that takes its toll on a person and you simply cannot do that into your later years. Also, his wife of 20+ years wanted him to retire after Lincoln as it was becoming far too much for her to take. DDL has 3 Best Actor Oscars and besides Marlon Brando (and some put him even *above* Brando) is widely considered to be the greatest actor in the history of cinema. While he will be greatly missed, he did it for a very good, important reason and he has nothing more to prove. He has dropped the mic in the classiest way and left the building. :)

He saif he felt physical exhaustion after linclon. He becomes one with his character and is not the most sociable man to meet new sets and casts every year or multiple times per year.
