The magician "ruining" the trick by casually preempting the end (like when he shows one hand at a time from beneath the handkerchief, supposedly _before_ he escapes) is probably my favorite magic trope. It's understated -- by acting casually about it, the magician doesn't draw attention to it and it _looks_ perfectly natural, but when you think about it, they _shouldn't_ even be _able_ to do it. It's like the magician saying "I know that you know that the trick can happen at any moment, so let's have fun with this." Danial executed this fantastically!
@arandombard11973 жыл бұрын
It's smart because we instinctively know that he can probably get out of those thumbcuffs, so by pre-empting it just before the reveal it throws us a curveball because we thought that it was going to be the final reveal. Now we're not sure what we should be looking for and we don't have enough time to speculate before he reveals the card around his two thumbs.

No that part was pretty obvious. First he said "put the card wherever you want", then he said "say stop!" and then said "put the card here please". Maybe native English speakers were fooled because they thought this was a language barrier but since I'm a non native English speaker myself, I could tell that wasn't a mistake and he did it on purpose
@NickRoman Жыл бұрын
@@hittingyouoverthehead , yes, but he did a good job playing it off. It was plausible that the whole thing was just a joke and he wasn't actually going to do a card trick. He doesn't just misdirect as to how he does the trick, but as to whether he's even going to do the trick. lol

Nobody who gets on this show would make such an amateur mistake. Besides, it didn't matter where she put the card in the deck because he already knew which card she had taken, or more accurately he knew which card he had forced her to take.

The fact that Daniel does not speak English as a first language/fluently but still managed to pull off the jokes and be so charming is impressive in itself really, and makes him a great performer. But the trick itself was also fantastic and although Penn and Teller may have figured it out, the average non-magician would still be totally fooled (at least I was) and it was really a pleasure to watch!! I think having Penn say that your trick is “perfect” is almost better than fooling them tbh!!

I was left with only a few trinkets and the magic in my heart. Today i am studying my way back into magic. Until i saw this, i had forgot how well the thumb cuffs played for the spectators. This routine brought tears to my eyes. They are there still as i write this. Thank you for existing. I am going to buy the thumb cuffs and add a card routine. So perfect i wish i would have thought about it. Please except my rendition of it as a compliment to you. Maybe i will get it up on youtube. Again. Thank you for existing.

"Completely a surprise and then totally inevitable" is a beautiful and poetically simple way to explain the absolute best magic routine payoffs. Where everything in the routine was leading to an obvious and inevitable payoff and yet none of us saw it coming. The magic isn't hidden in layer upon layer of complexity because Daniel's skill and talent made it seem like he was stripping away so many layers until you feel like there is nothing he is hiding. Then BAM he hits you with the trick and its fantastic.
