I so enjoy Detective Watts, his quirks, and his super readable face. He's the highlight of seasons 10-11 for me. It must be difficult for the writers to keep the show fresh without venturing too far afield from what it was originally, but they did a good job of it with Watts.

Daniel was right about the "recurring theme". Watts keeps losing people that are close to him. He lost his parents, his sister left him, Jackson died.... The list just goes on. I won't give you any spoilers (I'm watching season 12 at the moment) but let's just say the "recurring theme" is coming back to haunt him. *ouch*

I'd love to know (has he revealed it in any interviews?) but SURELY he has based his Watts character, at least partly, on the legendary detective Lieutenant COLUMBO! Either way, he's a top actor playing a splendid character in Murdoch. To be honest, in my humble opinion, he steals the show. The late and great Peter Falk is no longer with us, but I think there is a massive opportunity to commission a series "YOUNG COLUMBO" with Daniel playing the classic detective in his younger years. There is definitely much mileage in it, for sure. Of course, it isn't at all easy to replace Peter Falk in such a definitive, iconic, legendary role, but I honestly think Daniel would do a great job playing a younger Columbo, and I for one, would just absolutely LOVE to see it - I am sure it would be an absolutely fantastic show! So to any producers watching out there - crack on with it and sign him up (you just need to give him a fake glass eye!! ;-)
