What well known person would you love to sit down, with dead or alive of course my first answer would be George Carlin but on the other hand, that just might piss him off? Especially these days, people don't listen to what's most important because it's too big and scary in the moment. Perspective is necessary, and only the strongest thinkers can maintain perspective in the moment. For most people, perspective takes years, or decades. When people talk about someone being "ahead of their time" it's really an acknowledgment that most people are just not keeping up. That's no condemnation, just the way things are.

it is comedy and it is important information to share. No one listens to an angry person who is just flapping his gums about his anger with humanity, but when you rant about it with a comical view about it, then everyone listens. Comedy puts an ease to the angry perspective and it makes it easier to listen. It's much easier for humans to take in information when they are simply happy.

Although he is not the fearless sociopath that he plays in his darker stuff after '94, he is still an extraordinary person to be around as said by his contemporaries in various interviews after his death. He actually emphasized that it was only when he started doing comedy for himself that he enjoyed his work and got popular as a result. Indeed. I never really got why he's classified as a comedian. 98% of his content is just him speaking his mind on rather serious topics. The stage is his soapbox. Sure he is funny from time to time, but so is the guy on the soapbox. It kinda reminds me of the Nina Simone thing and the "Mississippi Goddam". It kinda sounds like a show tune but the lyrics are actually a really bleak cry of desperation, pain and deep, black sorrow. But the audience laughed and enjoyed themselves, at least in the beginning. I guess even those most bent on having a good time started choking when she basically sang that they'd all burn in hell.

Because she's one of the bosses and it's her PRIVILEGE to act that way and treat lower level staff that way. He was a genius that was always ahead of the times. Saw Him live in the 90's. I had worked on the ac systems in this theatre when it was built. So I took a side exit instead of following the crowd out when the show was over. A limo rolled by and stopped, the rear window went down & it was Mr. Carlin. He shook my hand and thanked me for coming to his show..and told me to have a safe trip home. Such a down to earth & nice man. The world is a lesser place without him. But at the end of the day, there's nothing we could do to the Earth that hasn't already been done ten fold. And the Earth has recovered every. Single. Time. And will continue to do so. @Spoiled Hu dikkat hai???? Let's see in 30 years if you'll still be that optimistic about it. If memory serves me right, the most catastrophic scientific predictions about the melting of the ice caps in the north pole predicted that we'd get a gigantic ice meltdown in 2050 if nothing was changed by our actions. Guess what ? The prediction they did for 2050 happened... 2 years ago ! Even the most pessimistics observations and predictions made by by NASA, with all its most powerful computers simulations can't catch up with what's happening in real life because on Earth, EVERYTHING is connected with each other, and one little change at a tiny level can trigger a massive chain butterfly effect that no amount of advanced simulation can ever predict. So it really doesn't take a genius to predict that if scientists predict the end of mankind for 2100, in reality, it's gonna happen around 2040-50, maybe even sooner. In 30 years, I may not even be there anymore anyway, so I probably won't be able to continue this discussion, but you might be pretty surprised by how different the world will be in 30 years. Once we prove to be unable to comprehend its purpose and meaning, as per our biological limitations, it will indeed discard us like a bad case of fleas. But not before we provide it with the next mutation, the next step in evolution that will allow it to understand itself: the A.I. , the neural nework that provides all of the human knowledge's advantages and none of it's weaknesses. The one thing he was conservative on was saying “over 90% of all species that have ever lived have gone extinct.” It’s actually well over 99%. I don’t know if the scientific community was at that percentage when George wrote this bit but it’s even more comforting knowing how insanely high that extinction rate is. But the bottom line remains: we were toast before we even appeared on this rock and that to me fills my heart with joy.

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding Carlin here. He's not saying that environmentalism is a bad thing. He's calling out our perspective of it. A lot of environmentalists make it seem like they're doing a favour to 'whales', 'elephants' or 'the planet', and of course, we're doing it for us. There's nothing wrong with that and actually I don't think Carlin thinks there is either. Just don't pretend we're doing something we're not. Moreover don't mistake our trying to survive as being good for the planet. It is, again, good for *us*, of course 'the planet' has no opinion of humans or anything else on it.

Yeah and most people will hear only what they wanna here to further reinforce their view on a world we don’t know shit about except how to profit from it somehow. After all money makes us all feel a little better and if a problem does come up just throw some more at it eventually it’ll fix itself. In my humble opinion...we are a travesty(for those of you who believe in god like me) it’s even in the Bible that god regretted ever creating us. He even flooded the world we still came back and found a way. He had to give his only son to die so that we could be saved. We are human and are a catastrophe to this world and one day we won’t be here. God bless

I am from Germany and came across George Carlin's program accidentally when listening to comments from Americans watching some German satire programs, especially the ones from the German stand-up Volker Pispers.
