Similar situation to me too. I realized that a sick intrusive woman was spied at me all the time. She is the porter. This woman set up one camera on the top of my door and just few weeks ago another one at front of my apartment. I spoke with the property owner to remove the cameras immediately. The complaint was based on the violation of my privacy. Cameras were removed in a couple of days. However, the crazy woman has 4 other cameras installed at front of her door and 2 more side to side of her apartment. She doesn't have life spyding people around. 😢

Great, thank you Daniel. I have a neighbour and we have joined driveways. He has a camera, which pointed at the front and can therefore see all comings and goings of me onto my driveway. With a audio recording. He also has a side camera and audio, which points into my back garden. Sensor lights on the side too. I've had to get the police involved and been to mediation. I've been watched, shouted at and intimidated. Total harassment and impacted on me enjoying myself freely in my front and back garden. He's out there sawing, banging, drilling on a Sunday morning, bank holidays, etc until the evening. He told mediators, he loses track of time!. I'm just about to get a ring light sensor which he will not be impressed about I feel. oh dear.

In the USA, anything that can be seen in public from a public area can be legally recorded. Because here, you have no expectancy of privacy in a public area.

Last I knew it was illegal to RECORD someone inside their house from outside their house. These cameras in apartment complexes are recording when neighbors open their door and the cam can see right into their house.

I always thought that processing personal data for purely personal or household purposes - such as via a ring doorbell - is outside the scope of the UK GDPR.
@JimLem
@JimLem 2 жыл бұрын
Same here. In fact, when I raised this query with the ICO over my own CCTV system, they informed me that GDPR laws apply only to businesses, organisations and other companies who store and process personal data. I was told that as long as my cameras were not watching over other private property or focused on or through people's windows, and that they were being used for legitimate security purposes, it would be very difficult for anyone to challenge my system in court. As much as I enjoy hearing Daniel's invaluable advice, I do feel he's not 100% correct on this.

The police openly told me to get CCTV immediately due to my neighbour being dangerous and targeting me. They will literally take any footage you have. Doorbell, camera, phone camera... If you're under threat, if you are experiencing crime, then I promise you that the police nor the government give a fuck. Put up a sign that says 'cctv in operation'. Done. There is very little anyone can do about you recording your own property. Unless you have set up your cameras facing their door directly or into their windows...then they have 0 leg to stand on. Cause unless they're doing something wrong, why worry? My country has one of the highest numbers of CCTV cams due to our past. Everywhere you go in this country, CCTV is operating, yet no one has a problem until you want to protect your own home.

My neighbours ring doorbell points directly at my front door less than three feet away. They can presumably see me coming in and out and possibly hear me too. I've complained to them in the past about making excessive noise at 2am and when I last went down they told me I was being recorded and that they were calling the Police. I simply said fine, I'll wait for them. Obviously a bluff. Do I care, not really because its a rented flat so the law conveniently doesn't care about my rights so there's little i can legally do and I can't afford lawyers anyway. So the upshot is, if you're wealthy and own property, the law is on your side. If you're less well off and don't own property, you're shafted. Lawyers, politicians and used car salesmen - a poisonous triumvirate indeed unless you've got a suitcase full of cash :-)

I am currently dealing with this situation at my rented accommodation. Thus far none of the authorities are interested in helping me. Police, local authority, information commissioner, local solicitors, MP, even my neighbour.......it seems unless they are affected by such a situation no help is there.......

i live in a council block of 6 flats the shite of a neighbour downstairs is obviously recording everybody as they come in and out , so she knows who is in and out the building at all times , so if anybody has grassed her off the police have vistied her many times , but nothing seems to get done she even started shouting and swearing at police once( for loud music, slamming doors ,shouting ) she has a good idea who it would be, yet she always claims to be the victim, no wonder she is single

My neighbour is like this, except she's not smart enough to be the one recording. I got a CCTV cam recently after an incident where she had put individually wrapped razor blades into my bin, with bloody/dirty kitchen roll and 2 sets of blue gloves. I phoned the police (they know her well due to her being a lot like your own neighbour) to come and collect evidence and take a report. They told me that I needed to get security cameras immediately. Anything to just watch my own door+property so that it can be given as evidence. The only people it will ever record are the people who come onto my property. No one else. It's not pointed at her, it's not pointed at anyone. It's inside my home pointed at my door. I have a sign that says CCTV in operation. There is absolutely nothing my neighbour can do about this. Nothing. If your neighbour is as bad as mine, then she's really recording her own shitty actions more than the camera would be a threat to you. Why are you concerned with her camera when she is the one who's allegedly the nuisance? Surely she's just recording her own antisocial behaviour then? Why does that bother you if you are not doing anything wrong?

Recent townie incomers to our little North Devon village have put up these snooping cameras, where there is next to no local crime. All these people do is infringe on people's privacy and snoop on everybody. These people believe they are somehow special but they've been reported to local authorities, the ICO, and the police. They might think their cameras are always justified and legal, but they are actually not. If the cameras stay up they will be sued.

The doorbell cams are always recording and gathering data. You're not the only one who has access to it. Everything you say and do in front of them is permanently kept on a database. I hope the dummies who buy them soon realise that.

Unless you are engaging in crime you have 0 reason to worry. What are you afraid of? Are you a horrible neighbour? Are you a criminal? No one is interested in watching your boring little life, who tf would want to do that? Who would want that data? Literally fucking no one

My neighbour walks into my front garden whenever she feels like it, and lets her dog run into my house, and she throws food into my garden, and she pulled up my fence, and pulled up my stepping stones, , and she shines powerful lights out of her window all night, and the police say this is not harassment because she has not threatened me with a knife, and that she has not broken the law. So i set up cameras, and now you’re telling me that she might be eligible for compo because of her need for privacy?

Can someone comment on the use of cctv in a communal setting... example block of 4 flats one upstairs neighbour has 3 cameras one pointing at the public footpath and main road... one above the gate to access the rear garden and my downstairs flat rear entrance and the third above my bedroom window monitoring the rear of the property and my property entrance....

I know there was a case where someone had a camera pointed at a communal car park to record their car but it was wide angle so it was deemed to not be appropriate as the purpose was to monitor their car. The question is, why is the area being recorded and is it appropriate for the purpose it was installed. Black Belt Barrister has answered this very question in one of his videos on what to do about it. :-)
