Unicorn Superhero 1 year is perhaps to early to start vibrato. I would say about the same time as you start playing in 3 position, which would be after 2 years. To learn the violin you need a teacher.... If not you will develop some bad habits that are difficult to get rid of. There are many many Videos on KZbin on vibrato and other violin techniques. I like the tutorials by BenChangViolin. and. Eddy Chen.

Paige Martin it helps with string crossings for certain passages, and really impacts the timbre based on the needs if song (warm and mellow vs bright... etc)

oscar martinez shifting is where you move your fingers up the fingerboard towards the bridge to avoid crossing strings but hit the same notes
