Julian Bream was a master of timbre, of the tone color on the guitar, I don´t know any other classical guitarrist who dealt at level of him in this issue, the quality of sound, it was magical.

Julian Bream was the first guitarist I ever saw live, at Mechanics Hall in Worcester mass, probably in 78 or 79. I met him back stage, shook his hand and he signed my concert program, which I still have today. He was my first guitar inspiration, and one of the best that I can ever remember. May his legend live a thousand years, as will his master, Andreas Segovia. May you all live forever in Guitar heaven. And may you continue to inspire me for the rest of my life.

The absolute master of the guitar. No one comes close. And what a pleasure to see Malcolm Arnold too.
@lunarlight3131 Жыл бұрын
completely agree so many new guitar players are really over looking the master here especially with this new generation coming out
@NDNdivergent Жыл бұрын
@@lunarlight3131 yea its that way with cellists too. The sound of the cello has changed, in favour of more agile playing from a powerful sound with players like Rostropovich, or Tortellier. I play guitar as well, and they also seem to be sacrificing power for agility but I do like the new players tho.
@lunarlight3131 Жыл бұрын
@@NDNdivergent what's your personal opinion of this new "style" upcoming? i mean can't there be a happy medium of sacrificing power for agility at certain points in a piece and then bringing force and rest strokes when needed. seems like a no brainer

Due to a severe knee injury, my career as a dancer was cut short, but music in general and the guitar in particular, was still a big part of it. Julian Bream was my inspiration. However, whenever, I'd get discouraged, because of lack of talent and technique, I'd say to myself, "Well, how many pirouettes can Julian Bream do?", and then I'd get back to practicing. He was my inspiration and still is. (Segovia is good too.) PS: I had the extreme pleasure to meet him after a performance, one rainy evening in Copenhagen, for which he apologized for his poor playing (He had a terrible cold.). He was a fine gentleman and had a good heart. I think of him often. Thank you Julian.

Started university in 1962 and the second LP my friend put on the turntable was Julian's "Elizabethan Lute Music"... that was my introduction to the world of Classical music.. a very great day for a young person - still listening to that record and still playing guitar. I'm 77 now, and have heard and seen just about all of the famous guitarists. To me Julian was head and shoulders above the other lads. His articulation, off the charts technique and tone alone speaks for itself.

Back in the days of vinyl recordings Bream was well represented playing his lutes in his own fashion. Still have his recordings on vinyl and CD. He also edited many musical transcriptions for guitar of guitar and lute music.

Thank you for posting. I enjoy classical guitar repertoire. but the recordings of Julian Bream are such, where one can hear the actual strings being plucked. Is this just me, the way he has been recorded, or the magic of this man?

It's a pity that the interview is not complete. I wonder if it is lost forever :( It is amazing to see some of the people who had a close encounter with him. I love that John Williams could be there and watched both men hug together: the two greatest guitarists (besides the great Segovia) of the twentieth century! Thanks a lot for the upload Daniele Magli.

It was "This Is Your Life" , A UK TV programme aired in 1997. I initally uploaded this as I know the old farmers (Jack Hughes) granddaughter. She gave me a VHS cassette. I recorded it and uploaded it 8 months ago. I do not mind by the way! Glad it is being aired to as many people as possible.
