Great video Daniel. The day before i found it there was a post on the Mixing Station Facebook Group about this topic, and just shared your video there because it might help a lot of people who wanna achieve that "using the same mic for Vocals & Talkback" thing with MS.

Great info video daniel. However, Mixing Station is not an easy app. You need start to slow down at about 0:55 in order to give people a bit of time to take everything in. That is, if it is intended as an educational video.

This is great! I was getting ready to set up an extra mic to talk on stage to our iem's. Your plan worked perfectly. I only had to configure a way to send it to my drummer's p16. I just created a bus and put the talkback and a sampler we use on the same channel. Thanks for the great tip!

One thing that I have seen others do with this method is to eq the talkback channel with an aggressive high pass filter to almost sound like a radio. This way you can be sure when the talk is off and on without looking.

Sure you can do that

Interesting. Doesn't that make the TB mic sound horrible or very unclear (even considering it's just for TB) ?
@bkauff00
@bkauff00 Жыл бұрын
@@djabthrash it definitely sounds different. But that way you know as soon as you hear it that it's on. Or if you don't hear it, you know it's off. Obviously if the the MD doesn't sing then you don't need it, but for someone who has to switch their mic between house and monitor only it gives that extra help of knowing as soon as you hear your voice of the setting is correct.

@@bkauff00 I turn the talkback all the way down in my ears, so I know if I can hear myself, everyone in the room can hear me. If I can't hear myself, it is only going to everyone's ears.

I think it would be good to talk about how you save layouts and settings between different mixers, too. I use mixing station almost exclusively for my mixing, but I use a combination of M32’s, M32C’s, and A&H SQ series mixers. I have yet to figure out how to beat save layouts between the mixers.

Another use for this would be when a guitarist switches from his/her electric to his/her acoustic. Thanks!

Hi Daniel ! As always your videos are so instructive and perfect ! Question as maybe a new subject video : i heard that it is existing an 'delay' phenomena with parallel processing (for example from a daw to the x32, the signal on channel one and same on channel 2 with processing, delay time occurs between both ) How to determine it and fix ? Thanks you Daniel so much for sharing your knowledges ! 😊😊

question, why can't you just turn off the main stereo button of the channel 1 (like you did in the channel 16) so it doesn't go to the main mix bit is still on the monitors? isn't that kind of a talk back, the only downsize i see from that is that your can't control the talkback volume separately
@danielkharrat
@danielkharrat 3 ай бұрын
@fabiomora6491 you can but if the channel is going to a livestream bus for example it would remain on in the livestream. You just have to be careful with where your signals are going

How do you assign a wireless midi controller to the talk button? Thanks
@danielkharrat
@danielkharrat 9 ай бұрын
You turn on midi support in the app settings and then connect your midi controller to the device running mixing station And you go to the midi tab in the settings Add a device Select the protocol to be general midi Then edit that device Add a controller (button) Edit that controller Click the "learn button" and move your physical controller to assign it to that action Then go back one step and on the right side of the screen you can add the actions you wanna do

@@danielkharrat i’ve done that as per your instructions. I’ve named the button “Talk” but I can’t find where that “talk” button is to assign it to the midi button?
@danielkharrat
@danielkharrat 9 ай бұрын
@cmarex7514 in the action type if you select midi instead of console then choose controller you can only choose a controller from the ones that you made in the midi list not the custom button that only exist in a layout So you have to assign the same actions that you did for the virtual button again for the midi button

If i have a FOH and he is controlling the mixing station, can I, as a musician use a midi in to xr18 to do this with mixing station?
@danielkharrat
@danielkharrat 10 ай бұрын
Yes you can connect multiple devices to the same mixer and they can all use mixing station and they can all control the mixer If you want to use a midi controller to trigger something in mixing station then you need to connect that controller to your tablet/phone running mixing station not to the mixer Or if you want to connect it to the mixer you have to configure the midi controller to send the specific midi command numbers that will do the thing you want to do but that will be independent from mixing station

Is pre-fader also pre-mute when it comes to a mix bus? If so, then would you even need a second channel? Could you just mute and unmute the one channel it's on without creating a second channel?

What if am the drummer and want to communicate to front of house via v their monitor headphones. How can I do that
@danielkharrat
@danielkharrat Жыл бұрын
You need to hit the solo button on that channel to get it in the monitor headphones Your microphone that you're using to talk with the engineer will not be on the main LR so select that channel and turn off the main stereo button so that it's not heard in the room As long as the solo button is pressed on that channel the foh engineer will hear it in his headphones

Great videos. I’m new to MS and your tips are really useful. Question: for talkback, wouldn’t it be the same if you just enable/ disable the send to main LR on the vox channel with the button? Any cons of doing it this way? Thanks!
@danielkharrat
@danielkharrat Жыл бұрын
You have more control with a separate channel Because your vocal mic isn't necessarily in all the monitors or maybe it is too quiet in some monitors that you want to talk to So yes you can technically do what you're saying but you'll have to change the send level to the monitors with that same button to make the mic loud enough that they can hear what you're saying Also maybe your mic is in a subgroup not directly on the main LR, what will you do then? It's better to have a different channel for the talkback The simpler things are, the better

Hi Daniel, could you explain a little more about how you are using this in a live sound environment, please? I know you recently got a Midas M32C, and a 32 channel stage box to replace your traditional M32 console. So do you put everything on stage now, or do you set up a little "mixing booth" out in the audience area with your laptop / tablet and the M32C brain, with a digital snake up to the stage. If it's the former, with everything on stage, how do you get a talkback mic on your body / in your hand, and how do you hear what the musicians are saying (assuming you are out in the audience area somewhere with your computer)... do you have / use a wireless talkback mic and wear an in-ears body pack? Or is there so other solution I'm not thinking of? Thanks, really appreciate that you take the time to share all this great info.

Everything is on stage and I'm the musician. This video is for musicians that want to communicate among themselves on stage. If I'm not playing an instrument I'll just be in the audience and mix with my phone but everything is on stage And if you as the sound engineer want to talk to the musicians you can use a wireless microphone and sit in the audience
