Awesome video! Very informative and professional. These ladies not only covered the professional side of the salon business, but also took it further to include the health, self-esteem, and sincere concern for their clientele. There is no doubt that your salon will be a major success and an example for other salon owners to follow.

7/13/23 thank you for your advice. Not a stylist but always absolutely always expect an amazing cut, sometimes suggestions, expert colorist skills and advice plus the stylist trying their best to style my hair as similar as I do or ask them to do. If I receive all of this I’ll tip handsomely and return…I can’t justify a good tip for anything less than my expected services Thanks again for your advice 14:43

Thanks for your input/advice. I’m an independent stylist that rents 2 spaces which costs $2400/month. I need to charge what I’m worth. The question I have is how to “politely decline” a client. Last week I had an online booking for a root retouch. She was a new client, level 2 with 3+ inches of outgrowth. Her hair went from level 2 to brassy 6 to a beyond fried level 10. I told her we can cover grey (that’s what she booked) but I absolutely had to cut her unbelievably janky cut. She agreed to the services (roots, cut, and I wasn’t even going to charge for the toner in the mid shaft). I had 2 clients after her. I did a thorough consult & started w a dry cut. 1/2 way through her root retouch she said, “wait, what color are you putting on me.” She was fumed I was coloring her gray w her natural (what she booked and asked for). So then I finished the roots, cut the processing time down by 5 mins and had to call my other 2 clients to reschedule! As if I didn’t need a breather by then. So not only did she affect my schedule but took time and money from me. I rinsed her out and then she’s showing me photos of platinum blonde so I foiled 7 ways to Sunday. Because I don’t work in a traditional salon and have a yelp that will blend the bad reviews in, I have to appease the “crazies”. If they felt entitled and not fully taken care of they can spend that night ruining my reputation online. Of course I could fit in the trim, but telling me 1/2 way into a permanent retouch she asked for that that’s not what she wanted...what could I do? I had to do an emotionally exhausting hairathon for the next 4hrs and moved my clients to the next day. What would you do in that situation? The 2N was partially processed and so you want to walk out w half a head of orange just like your midshaft and charge for the cut and eat the cost of the color and my time? I’ll be risking everything I worked for for 5 star reviews. Should I even check in with her??

The Gossiping… I’ve recently had certain professionals have no problem bashing their prior place of business to me, who doesn’t know Peter from Adam. That’s interview basics 101!! You guys are right it just appears very immature and I wonder what they say about me. Also, the gossiping about themselves or whomever else in their personal lives can be very unattractive and unprofessional to sit through. Seems some are just talking too much & makes me wonder if they’re focusing on my hair. I also don’t always feel like chitchatting or listening to the drama that they’re spewing at me while I’m sitting there trying to have a relaxing afternoon… LOL Don’t get me wrong I’m not a perfect client & am always trying to Improve and I sure love my stylists & Will follow them around as long as they were still communicating and I’m getting results because they take pride in their work but over the years it’s becoming increasingly unsatisfying to Give them hard-earned cash and leave not loving my hair. I feel more like I’m a COG at Ford motors,Somethings usually off usually because they didn’t listen, or did, but still followed their basic template they use that everybody else without taking into account any strategy as far as hair texture, face shape, maintenance, etc. if They don’t pay attention or keep notes May as well go to someone else’s no point of differentiation.. It Used to be you stuck with someone & they learned your hair but now it’s like Groundhog Day. My colorist is awesome she keeps meticulous notes & I always leave feeling like Beyoncé. The person before her Who colored my hair for five years never caught on. I was in there at least every other month. I’d say I love what we did last time let’s do that again and he would have no idea what we did. It was always a surprise! He’d be talking and mindlessly overlapping bleach after we talked about preservation. killing my hair…The person who’s cut my hair for the past five years also doesn’t remember one cut to the next or what the preferences/hold are...I don’t mind repeating it but it’s just like why are you hacking into my hair with texturizing scissors when it’s dry and you know it’s frizzy, wavy, tremendous, thick, long hair & I’m trying to grow it out? Because she doesn’t want to take the time to cut layers into it with scissors…I left that appointment in tears. Sorry for the rant but I want to say, You ladies are awesome with a strong work ethic! Thank you for teaching the up-and-coming’s what’s up. I can’t wait for your business tot are off and I wish you lots of success!!. I could tell you are passionate about what you do and honestly care and it’s so encouraging to see!

Great video! thanks for sharing. When I apply the color (which is dark brown) I only touch the new roots, the problem is when I wash it, it bleed into the rest of my hair, it ruins my new highlights and make them darker and greenish. It has been a huge stress for me and my hair having to highlight it often to keep the highlights bright. Any tips.?
