Don’t forget that Mitch is an authentic countertenor! Those high tessitura lines are a piece of cake for him! Kirstie (rhymes with Thirs-ty, by the way), is fire on this! The Aeolian cadence at the end is what got this old composer-pianist off guard... sooo beautiful!

They did layered themselves that’s why it’s so much fuller in the arrangement. Most of their pieces don’t layer much, but tbh I’m happy they do in this one. The rich and full sound makes this song one of my favourite one from them
@pjschmid22512 жыл бұрын
Bit of clarification; in this recording they are definitely layered in that they are each singing different parts for the backing track versus the foreground track. But many of their other recordings they still layer but not in the same way. Backing tracks will have them singing multiple takes of the same part and bringing them together to add fullness to that backing track. People that swear that they don’t do this because it’s somehow against the rules of a cappella or whatever the heck they think although they don’t need to think this way. They are an a cappella group but they’re also a pop group and that’s how pop music is recorded.
@makchris77462 жыл бұрын
@@pjschmid2251 yeah I’ve seen some stuffs from their audio engineer Ed Boyer who claimed they’ll do at least 2 good takes for each BGV in order to pan them left & right for a stereo image. And the one thing I like about this song specifically is how they layered a different version of themselves not just in the stereo image, but also in the arrangement. As a result there’re probably 7 or 8 “voices” in this arrangement, which differ from what they used to do most of the time with just 5 “voices”.

Great reaction, and I can see that Pentatonix brings you joy, which is awesome. I'm interested to know why you believe Mitch is in his falsetto. He's a natural countertenor. When he wants a softer sound he will mix in more head voice for the airiness, but in a lot of that song he's not in falsetto, just doing countertenor things. If you're going to do more Pentatonix, I would suggest you consider My Heart with You. Just pure a capella goodness.

No not one bit of the song is mitch actually in his falsetto tune of his voice here before the actual arrangement he and the rest of the group were going through who sings the lead and so fourth and mitch brought up to the rest of the group saying “hey should I be in my falsetto, or mix” and the group voted and mix was the right call for the song cus it’s clear that he isn’t his falsetto yet but if ur referring Kirstie and mitch being in the same octave and tone they’re actually not both are extremely talented obvi but mitch actually can go up to 8 octaves so believing he has 8 octaves isn’t a far stretch at all and plus he also has 2 tones which brights up his horizon of different playable techniques he could use/do with his voice I won’t use big words to fully best describe the surreal tactic they both go through to and the amount of pinging through themselves takes the ideal amount of time but mitch was gifted with that voice ever seen he was born and furthermore I believe what we see in mitch is one of a kind he is not only the highest male hint hint (countertenor) - being the highest male ever but he can sing higher then most females if not all plus let’s not add that him and ariana share the same volume and range/texture of their whistle notes but if mitch wasn’t doing whistle notes he outright sings higher/softer then any singer in the world mentioning only females cus never seen a male that have this soft of a voice and I mean just listen to it and it will speak for u the words don’t mean anything just hear him sing and when he opens his mouth it’s like he’s inhabitant a female’s body in a male body he has all the characteristics of a female inside a males body and most if not all females can’t sing higher than him which is the crazy part and all the women are exceptional at their craft and the high notes they hit which blows the roof off places and such but still take into account mitch - male, soft lineage voice w thin texture, countertenor, it saids his range is 6 octaves and 1 tone but it’s obvious that is wrong (8 octaves and 2 tones), range+space, he doesn’t even need to try in order to reach/belt up there most women can’t belt that high and what he’s able to do is a work of art at its finest, feels like he has a echo in his voice w out the affects and all but clearly he don’t need affects none of them do hense why u have kevin and now the newcomer matt who has been there for bout 2 yrs now maybe 3 and they are ur instruments and let’s not brag but matts bass tho he can sound like instruments as well like what????? This group is insanely captivated in so many levels it’s a breath of fresh air to hear them and if mitch can reach 9 octaves and perhaps even try for 3 tones then it wouldn’t surprise me at all and he would be the 1st person in that area + he’s a male so bonus there’s only 1 other person with 8 octaves and 2 tones w him its someone from the late 70s I believe but yea she’s def on mitchs level and both are well versatile and well placed.

Mitch is in countertenor, not falsetto. I really think that, given the ease with which he does this, he could reach coloratura soprano if he wanted. Kirsten has wonderful whistletones, and I absolutely love it when she goes into belt. Scott is also capable of doing a wonderful belt when he chooses. He has, though, a more bluesy flavor to his runs. Kevin may be the most versatile in the group. His range runs throughout the tenors and into a falsetto that resides in countertenor. He is also a quality, symphonic caliber cellist and sax player that can also play keyboards. He also has perfect pitch. Matt can run everything from maybe a B2 up to solidly into the tenors. They all have ranges of around 5 octaves, give or take.
