Ed, thank you so much for taking the time to watch! I really appreciate it! I’ve learned so much from you about Paphiopedilum’s that I ventured into this genus. I’ve had them about 6 months and they are still alive and growing! So thank you for giving me a good base of knowledge because I think that’s why they are still alive! Have a wonderful day!

I'm slowly catching up on your vids...thanks for sharing your thoughts! We all have to adjust our setups to match our plants. I failed in WC in the beginning because I literally did everything wrong...lol. I just learned to listen to the plants better and as long as they grow happily, the setup doesn't matter. Love learning from you! :)

You forgot one lesson: Don't just start buying every orchid you see, start with a few and make sure you can keep them alive and growing. Then you get a couple more, then a couple more. (then one day you realize you have 200 and it is time to throw some away. 😉)

Hi Danielle, for the rootless Phal, I can see the bare roots ( no velamin) still on the plant. Are they functioning ie absorbing water form the glass vessel? I am asking because I was given a grocery store mini phal to hopefully rescue. All of the roots that were buried in the moss plug are papery. There are a few short aerial roots. And two full stems of blooms. Should I cut off the bloom stalks? Are the blooms sucking energy from the plant that it would need for growing more roots? Should I remove the papery velamin and leave the wiry root cores intact? Thank you in advance for your answers! Teresa
@daniellesorchidranch1591 Жыл бұрын
Hello Teresa, I’m sorry it took so long for me to reply, you she definitely take the papery velamen off. The bare roots do absorb water but not very much. Try soaking the aerial roots with warm water, that helps them hydrate quicker. Don’t overwater it because if she’s getting enough water she won’t see a need to grow new roots. Let me know how this goes! Thanks for watching!

I am using barrina strip lights I found on Amazon. They seem to be doing the trick. Not as bright as day light but the other grow light I had was way to strong and burned them even from across the room! If you start a Phal in Semi Water Culture in the spring it’s almost guaranteed to work for you. It’s just a lot of work. Instead of just watering it once a week you have to put the water in and then remember to dump it a day or two later. I know your really busy. Thanks for taking the time to watch!

Thanks for this great informative video! I have a question: When you put an orchid in a glass, is it mostly supported by the bottom two leaves which touch the rim of the glass or does is "stand" on the roots which touch the bottom of the glass? I don't want to either damage the root tips, cause the plant is quite heavy, but I also don't want the bottom leaves to suffer. Thank you!

How often do you change the water and clean the vase? weekly? And how do you fertilize in water culture?
@daniellesorchidranch15913 жыл бұрын
Yes every week, the water is usually very lightly fertilized. Every once in a while it’s just plain water to flush the roots.

Your orchids are planted in a very nice room. But in order for it to develop, is there any need for equipment conditions for it? Thank you very much
@daniellesorchidranch15913 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the type of orchid you have, some orchids will grow in a variety of conditions and some do need specific care to make them happy. If you are just growing Phalaenopsis they are typically pretty easy-going and will grow in almost any home environment. I recommend research before purchasing a particular type of orchids so you will know if you can give them the care they need in your environment.

Love your videos! When u put the Cattleya in double plastic cups, after soaking them in water and drained... are you concerned about No Airflow with the outer cup having no drainage holes?
@daniellesorchidranch15913 жыл бұрын
Not until the root system gets extensive. Because I use the glass beads there is no break down of media so the air space is maintained. Until the roots go crazy and they have to be put in bigger set ups, which is what I am facing with many of them. Big project ahead of me!

Very helpful advices👌 In the meantime my complex Phals I transitioned in the summer are doing well, they all have spikes but developping very slowly. They seem very thirsty which is no wonder as they are in a cosy room in a south facing window with plenty of light, even some direct sun until a week ago. And 2 weeks ago, as day lengh is increasing and temperatures are rising I decided to start the transition of my Phal species and primary hybrids. I started with little water but they seem quite thirsty although they are in my lounge which is a large space with less light (in a west facing window) than the complex Phals and therefore not as warm. I have not lost any root so far but two of the Phals have one older leaf starting to turn yellow 🤔 I am doing semi wc with these ones and keeping a close eye on them to give them water when I feel they need it. I hope I am doing it right😳 Thank you very much for all your useful information. Wishing you a lovely weekend❤️💖🤩
