Why doesn’t every instructor teach it this way? Why is Danny the first instructor to provide this secret? Most KZbin advice for golf too complicated or doesn’t work but this works! I’m shocked as my anxiety for these awkward 30 to 80 yarders are gone! I tried this technique on the range and of the 200 attempts my worst one was OK and that’s because I forgot to put arms in a closer V and to my body. Otherwise over 99% hunted the target. If I can even do this 75% as well in actual 18-hole round as I did on the range it will eliminate 5 to 6 strokes! Game changer! Better yet this screw up-proof method is easy without thinking. Thanks Danny! These types of shots once an anxiety for me are now FUN with confidence!

I learned more from this video about pitching than i did in 20 years of golfing, my fault for never reading up much but I always kept my ball about 70-100 yards away so I could take a full swing with an iron. Thank you, Danny. I spent 20 years trying to (unsuccessfully) pick pitch shots clean with a de-lofted and closed club face until I was shown how to use the bounce. I focus more on the club hitting the ground than the club than hitting the ball. What a difference. Very well described in your video.

Danny you continue to explain this better than just about everyone - starting from setup, and comparing it to the other shots, onto the followthrough. As a 25 handicap its really helpful when you compare the differences to the other shots. I find when I don't play often I will start to address the ball similarly for everything but putting and driving and that obviously ends in tears. Me n my buddies played in 30 mph wind gusts, with tight lies on very soft ground all day. These types of shots kept us all in the 70’s. 74, 75, 76. We were all pretty happy with our scores in the bad conditions. You described the technique perfectly for these shots. Great video.

Great lesson. Johnny Miller did a thing with wedges for Golf Digest back in the 0s. He used you idea of feet apart distance to help define distance. I used this for over 30 years now and can walk my wedges under 100 yrs shots by 5- 8 yards with full swings. By putting your feet closer together you can't go back as far and turn your hips either. Thanks, You advice adds to my practice.

One thing I read somewhere (Pelz maybe ?) which has massively helped my pitch shots was to feel "dead hands" - for me it completely stops the tendancy you talk about, when players aggressively rush into trying to HIT a pitch. I'm still a bad golfer (for now 🤞), but 30-100yrd pitch shots have become some of my favourite shots to play. - do pretty much everything you cover with the setup but my swing thought is to keep my hands "dead", or feeling numb. That, combined with a few swing lengths for a couple of wedges has started giving me surprisingly accurate results. Great video, and good to see one on these type of shots as they're often overlooked. As always, clear and well presented - keep em coming 👌👍

This isn't really to do with the video above Danny but I just wanted to tell you that I watched 2 of your videos last week - chipping onto the green and hitting a straight drive. As a cutter/slicer/fader, the driving one was brilliant. I was playing in a medal so probably not the best time to start fiddling with set up etc but it worked a treat. Drove it as well as I have for ages. And the chipping one worked a treat as well. Shot gross 39, 39 for a net 69. Thank you for the information and the way it was put across - so easy to understand and then implement. It's a shame that I don't live anywhere close to where you teach - I would be right down for some coaching!!

I find you say @ 7:00 about gravity is a key to consistency and distance control in the short game. Gravity, which accelerates mass towards the ground at 32 ft/sec/sec. is far more consistent than any attempt to control the swing force by swing the arms. Something I also find helpful for keeping the arms swinging in a wide shallow arc is to keep slight downward pressure with pad of trail thumb over the lead thumb. In a full swing as the trail arm folds the lead shoulder joint becomes the axis of rotation for the club head leading to a steeper angle of attack in the downswing. Keeping the trail arm straight keeps the axis of rotation nearer to the spine resulting in the shallower angle of attack ideal for pitching. One of the first golf instruction books I read when starting in the 1980s was “Getting Up and Down From 40 Yards and In” by Tom Watson who suggested a couple of drills I’ve used. The first is to take every lofted club and hit 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 swing pitch shots, observing and recording the carry and roll of each. The second is to used the information gained from the first drill to select the ideal club and swing length for shots from 40, 30, 20, 10 and 5 yards with hole different distances from the edge of the green. That really opened my eyes to how many options there are around the green and gave me the confidence to try them when playing.

Yes this is an excellent video, with high quality tips. What did it for me: the tick ... tock thought and motion through the ball. First time I needed to do this, a 60 yd shot, was hitting my 3rd shot on par 4 ... guess who saved par? No way do I get up and down from 60 yards, without this video and the suggestions on how to not only hit the ball straight, but hit it cleanly. Big thanks!

My bad shots were digging into the ground quite a bit and causing a very, very short shot. I looked at your KZbin channel this morning and miraculously you had this video posted. If this is happening it sounds like you have the right idea. It may be that the ball is sitting up in the grass providing more room for the club to slide underneath . If this is the case you may not be able to use the bounce as it would be like playing the wedge off a tee. Hover the club slightly off the ground. Have your weight spread evenly across your feet not favouring your front foot. Do this only if the ball is sitting up off the ground

It seems we are always taught to lean the club shaft and keep our hands ahead of the ball. Your way seems so much simpler and also keeps you from trying to hit the ball hard. Still learning to get better with my longer irons and driver but this video saved me 10 strokes today at least. I used both the chipping and pitching techniques and the "tik tok". Not only did I get on the green, more often I made up for some bad approaches with the ball closer to the hole in order to get some 2 and 1 putts. today. I have logged lots of hours with your videos over the past several months. All have been extremely helpful but this one really made an immediate impact after several hours of practice.

Absolutely new golfer been playing sparsely for few years and had no clue about chipping and pitching been using some improvised technique of mine for short shots. Then I watched the other day Rick Shiels video with Dan Grieve about chipping and he introduced him to the bounce technique for chipping too. I went to this chipping/pitching practice area the next day and was there for 3 hours... That's how much fun it was. When you hit it properly that sound ugh... heaven. They were only showing close chipping shots but I went and experimented on my own from 30-60 yards distances and was shocked how I could chip it(had no clue its called pitching from that distance) from that distance with this technique. Funny enough you mentioned the clock, that was exactly my thought, like hey this is like a clock pendulum and I was saying tik tok too haha I was in such a zone that day that I finished the day off tossing 8 golf balls from various distances 50-30 yards and I hit 7/8 on this minuscule green with one only slightly off the green and few inside 5 feet. I was shocked. is this really this easy I thought to myself... Went to play with my brother and a friend few days later stoked to show off what I learned... Got around 40 yards from the pin I was like yeah perfect for this shot. I was thinking in my head tik tok piece of cake tik tok shank the clock 🤣🤣 Shanked it right in the bunker in front of the green. Was nice though, straight no bounce, like a long put. Again shockingly I learned the bunker technique just by watching that video too and havent even tried it few days before but managed to get three bunker shots on the green. Golf is simultaneously easy and hard. Its 70% mental, its like you just need to get out of your own way.

Thanks, Danny! My biggest goof on these shots is not speeding up but trying to be so smooth that I slow down and the ball goes halfway to the target. I think the key is finishing the shot with that handle pointed at my belly. Cheers!

Holy Sh*t! I went out today and tried this technique. Elbows in and like a pendulum. WOOOOW! Ive never pitched so well ever lol. Great lobs, accurate and pretty close to the pin. Thank you so much. I actually think it also helped with my iron and hybrid game a little bit too. Im excited to try this more, but kinda running out of weather time this year, but, man, thank you! I had fun today. Just kinda wish your video was a little shorter, sweeter and more to the point. Not so much talk. Whats not said, is it fet like it gave me more control over power, accuracy and a good clean hit to really dial in the shot

Using the tee drill really does work. For compression, I use the tee drill as well with a 56 degree wedge and on Track Man, see how low I can get the flight. It soon let's you know if you're getting hands in front of the ball. Simple tee peg is sometimes the best training aid. Cheers DM. 👍
