Bunker shots are supposed to be one of the easiest shots in golf, certainly according to the professionals.
But how do you find them?
I was with my Dad this week and his thoughts echoed the thoughts of so many golfers who come to me struggling with this part of the game.
"Danny it's ok for golf professionals, they play out of perfect sand every time, I have to deal with golf bunkers that are rock hard...I will often leave it in the bunker or blade the ball over the back of the green. Is there something I have to do differently?"
The answer is yes.
Firstly we need to make sure you have a sound bunker technique. I've something super simple I know you are going to love 😁
Then you have to assess the sand and make some small adjustments to your bunker set up depending on how hard or how soft the sand is.
I promise you it's not difficult once you know how.
In todays golf video, come and look over my shoulder as I give my Dad a bunker lesson. I cover everything you need to know, bunker strike, distance control and even long bunker shots.
Come and join me now and let me show you how to make bunker shots one of the easiest shots in golf.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On KZbin and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Another great video. And your father is once again a great student, a role model for all of us - young and elder golfers. And you are so gifted explaining complicated things easily. But the vidoes with your father always touch me especially as a son. It's wonderful to see how respectful and loving you are with each other. And even though he never makes it a big issue, you can tell at every moment how proud your father is of what you have become. You both are an example for all fathers and sons. Very touching. I wish you and us many more such training sessions. All the best.

Great lesson with your lovely dad. Many golfers like me play bunker shots where there is little sand. Tour players have a lot of fine dry sand almost every time. Great to have a bunker lesson with firm sand. Also tour players play on lush, green fairways & perfect greens. I think tour players would find our typical courses a lot harder to get their very low scores. Many thanks to DANIEL & HIS GREAT DAD.

Great Vid Danny, everyone has respect for Pete Cowan and I’ve watched him demonstrate this set up but you have clarified it much more, especially the importance of exiting the stroke left and also letting the club just fall with gravity. Like many golfers, I usually get the ball out ok but a bit unpredictable, probably because I try to actually “hit” the sand with some force. More like this !

Why does this remind me of your lesson with Pete Cowan?! I think its because in each case it was a "live" lesson and we all can identify with the difficulty of learning a new motion in golf, whether its Rory, you or your Dad! I suspect I'm a very similar age to your father and have been struggling in bunkers but this really clicked with me. Love to see more live lessons with him (or others) in the future.

Another great video Danny. At my own club we do have at least three types of sand from very dusty to heavy sand and it has been causing me problems. I am hoping that this method will get rid of my thin and fat shots :) One thing however is that the sand your Father is playing from is very smooth but as I play early mornings the ground staff have normally raked the bunkers and the rake tynes are quite deep (deeper than the members rakes) therefor the ball is sitting down in the rake marks. How do you setup when the ball is in such a position? Cheers.
@DanielMaude
@DanielMaude 2 жыл бұрын
If the ball is sitting down in the sand the you need to dig the heel of the club into the sand first as this is the sharpest part of the club

Played Friday at a new (for me) course. Was in 3 bunkers; got out 1st time on 2 of them. The other was admittedly a terrible lie, downhill in a footprint, so no chance of anything good happening 😅 However, my last bunker shot came out perfect, with the "thump" sound I rarely ever hear. When that 4ft putt went in for a sandy par, it felt pretty good👍🏻 Thanks again!!

Hi Danny; I used to be able to get out of greenside bunkers without much trouble but this year it's been a problem. They were coming out too low with a lot of sidespin. It seemed like my clubface was open too far & then swinging from the outside made even more loft & nearly causing a shank. This year I've seen numerous instructors advising opening the clubface before you take your grip which seemed to cause my issue. I started allowing my wrist to cup on the backswing rather than opening the face before I grip the club because it opens the face but not as much & I still swing from the outside & it resolved my problem. Maybe others are doing the same? Actually having the face TOO far open when swinging across the ball? I know it sounds counterintuitive because the face has to be open but can it be overdone? Be well & keep up the great work!

Really can't get my head around this, I was taught for years to get the heel of the club in the sand first to ensure the bounce of the club worked upon impact, to get the toe in first is a real eye opener for me and no wonder I have struggled for years, I really hope this works.

The heel can be great when the ball is buried in the bunker as it’s the sharpest part of the wedge

Hi Danny - I don’t understand the getting the toe under the ball. Are you trying to keep the heel out of the sand?
@DanielMaude
@DanielMaude 2 жыл бұрын
No I’m tact the heel cuts into the sand but if you have the image of the toe slipping under the ball it can help you to not only use the bounce but get the clubhead through square

Danny Great Job each video I am learning more and more. 4 weeks ago I scored 111 and was ready to throw away my driver. I watched your video with that gentlemen who said the dreaded flip :). Well I finally played a round that I enjoyed. Drives right down the middle. I still made mental errors but I was parring hole and birdied one hole. My score was 100 which to me was great as I know that when I break 100 my goal will be to break 90. I am a fan of yours looking forward to watching your videos. Thank you again Ralph Staiano

Good tips though, I'll try and remember for next time I'm in the sandy stuff

Not going to lie, I'm super excited to practice this. I always thought I was good at getting out of bunkers but I put a lot of power into my swing to do so. Your swing looks so effortless. Thanks for this video. Would this technique work for a ball that has been dug into the bunker? I just ran into that issue this past week and had a terrible time getting out.

Hi Danny, In Dad’s lesson you have clarified a longstanding question for me. I have struggled with a) the setup over the left knee and b) exiting left from a square setup and feeling that the toe of the club is sliding under the ball. Not only is this great in bunkers, it is a treat to use around the green. Thanks Coach. from Oz
