Tuesday I played a late afternoon round. I was so horrible on Wednesday I started my sand lesson search. First one I came to was yours Danny. I'll have say your way of explaining it, showing it and recommending to start simple (closed face) made me chomp at the bit to try it. Just got back from the range, and it really really helped. And it was so much easier too! Not only did I swing easier, but I put more turn on the upper body and it was easier on my back. Now the test is this weekend, but I feel like now I have a plan I can execute. Stay tuned...😉

I think the biggest problem for the average player is having the opportunity to practice bunker shots. For the most part, we NEVER get to practice them. I don't have a single driving range anywhere near me that has a practice bunker. Also, 99% of public courses I play don't have a practice area with a bunker. This is the biggest challenge for many players, I believe. Is there a way to practice these shots from grass, employing similar techniques?
@DylanJamesGolf2 жыл бұрын
Practice at the course. You don’t need to hit a million shots but drop 3 and hit them. Bunker shots are annoying but they’re nearly inevitable. My best practice I ever had was bringing my sand wedge to the beach and hitting shots there. But basically if you can hit a flop shot without skulling it, use that same principle out of the sand but a little steeper and an inch before the ball.
@leemzgoogle9172 жыл бұрын
@@DylanJamesGolf Most courses I play are pretty busy. If the group behind me saw me dropping 3 balls into the bunker for practice I probably wouldn't make it out of the parking lot alive. My bunker play improved dramatically the minute I lost my "fear" of the shot and started swinging more aggressively. I used to be very tentative and would either leave the ball in the bunker or skull it across the green. Now, I just aim an inch or two behind the ball and take a nearly full swing while never decelerating. It's been working great for me for the last two seasons.

Brilliant video, Danny, thank you. I am watching this because I have had a couple of bunker lessons recently including one today. My tutor picked up on the fact that i don't turn very well in the bunker, and not enough follow through. What he didn't find, and that you have explained beautifully, is the trick with the tram lines to test where you are hitting the sand. I was clipping the top edge of the bunker on the way out today, so I am guessing not enough weight on the front foot, and clipping the sand behind the ball. Thanks for this, i will give it a go on Thursday.

The stand on left foot a great drill, told to use similar for pitching and short game and for me to work with less hands and straight arm for pitches. As a start for pitching ball in middle of stance, open to direction of play allows body to turn and get through I use my60 deg for all bunkers except fairway ones eg those I need to get the ball up and out. Will try the one leg stance as an aid plus thinking follow through to match backswing and not to decelerate
