Hello, first thank you so much for this video! It helps a lot. I've been practicing lining with a shader, but on silicone and on skin whenever I pull the line away from me I feel the needle stagger on the skin, like it's having trouble piercing it in. I have a stigma spear with a good power supply and I already tried going higher with the voltage but the problem persists. Do you have any idea on what I could be doing wrong?
@jameshadfield2276 Жыл бұрын
Could it be the quality of your needle? The cheaper needles tend to dull more easily than the premium quality. Or maybe if you’re angling the needles too much that they are not fully penetrating the skin?

@DanielYuck3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm I can recommend a lot of good inks. I think it really all depends. So for example if you are wanting to do black and gray work, I would recommend using Intenze Formula 23, or Allegory BLAK. Intenze Formula 23 Tattoo Ink amzn.to/3wLi59H Allegory Black Ink amzn.to/3cCfAii Say if you are wanting to do vibrant colored work I can recommend the Radiant Ink Set. Radiant Tattoo Ink 19 Color Kit Set 1/2oz amzn.to/39mcSeg All of these inks I have used and tried myself and I personally love. I am sure there is soo much more to this question out there that others can recommend but for me, these are inks I can personally feel good recommending them to other people. Should you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to let me know.

Does my power supply need to be on shader when lining with around Shader
@DanielYuck3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question! My power supply also has a feature for shading and lining and it’s not something like I put much thought into. My logic was if we are pushing a bigger configuration I’ll want more power, so I leave it on lining and worry more about the voltage. I feel the lining setting is the way to go. What do you set yours too upon tattooing?
@predatoria_aquatica2 жыл бұрын
Cool vid.. I only tattoo for fun( not a pro) but I personally use RLs bec RS sometimes have that fuzzy sides to them and sometimes i get marks.. I personally don’t get consistent clean lines with an RS..then I have to go back more often to redo..to each his own, it’s cool that u do things diff.
@ricefrappuccino78753 жыл бұрын
I noticed that you use both pulling and pushing when lining. does that make any difference?
@DanielYuck3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! M The main reason why I pull and push lines is due to the design itself and what the design requires and that’s how I optimize my comfort upon applying the tattoo. The difference between them wouldn’t really reflect in the line work itself but more so the comfortability I feel upon tattooing the lines. Whichever method feels natural is the method I go with during the process.

How do you prevent track lines from the shader? I can line with liners, but the shaders seem to leave tracks.
@DanielYuck3 жыл бұрын
Thats a good question. For these specific shader needles I was using a standard configuration which would leave more apparent tracks. When using bugpin configurations we may still get tracks but closer together. For fake skin when we get those nice 1 pass lines I typically approach it as I would on human skin which are typically 1 pass lines when using a larger configuration. TO get rid of them on fake skin maybe doing another pass would help but overall the configuration marks would be there 1 way shape or form as its a needle grouping. This is in context to fake skin not human skin. With human skin when lines are pulled with round shaders the lines will typically settle into the skin rendering the line 1 solid line over having the configuration showing. It may show up a bit when tapering out but nonetheless this is how I view it.

I have an important question can you reuse needles that you used on fake skin again just in the fake skin I really would like to know
@DanielYuck2 жыл бұрын
Thats a great question! I wouldn't recommend to re-use needles even on practice skin as I feel it's the practice behind the craft. It's a "gray" question for lack of a better term and I say that because I can understand not all of us have the ability to buy needles so the ones that we do practice with we would like to get our mileage for them. Another reason why I don't recommend to ever reuse a needle even in practice is because the needles can dull down at any point in which will reflect on your work and make you think it's your application.

I’m currently in my second month of my apprenticeship and have just started practicing on fake skin. Whenever I line with a round shader, I can see all the individual lines really spaced out and it’s quite shaky. Do you need to adjust your hand speed and go slower when pulling a line than you would with a liner?
@meganjones49293 жыл бұрын
I’m not a professional by ANY means, I just have my own machine and do my own tattoos buuuut this is the problem I had at first. I found that when I pull lines if I make tiny circles and I mean TINY it makes such a huge difference. I hope that made sense.
@DanielYuck3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! So for me when I pull lines with a round shader I am focused on my voltage and hand speed matching, while I focus on the depth in which the needle is in the skin. When I align these variables it makes for a nice, saturated and smooth line. I’ll typically see a lot of streak marks on the taper outs and in’s as in these spots the depth was lifted to taper out per the design. It is a matter of balancing the variables and developing that muscle memory I feel.
@DanielYuck3 жыл бұрын
@@meganjones4929 I think I can understand that what you mean. This approach has never crossed my mind simply because I see myself having so much room for error haha. In my head it’s easier pull a nice one pass line over building them up. I chose to go this route because once I’ve developed the flow and skillsets to pull lines with one pass it’ll make for a much cleaner read on the tattoo, which would also translate as quality to most people. That’s just how I see it tho, if I’m correct there are a lot of artist that build their lines and designs up. I feel this would vary from tattoo artist to tattoo artist.

Ill tell you the best answer..... DO NOT LINE WITH A RS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want fat round edge traditional lines take a 9L and literally TOUCH THE TIP with a lighter. It will relax the solder joint just enough so when it penetrates it kind of "starfishes" in the skin giving a FAT, but dense lines. Sorry man but you are obviously self taught or self taught grand apprentice. Plus the taper of the needles are different lol. Stop teaching and start learning

Not sure if you will see this on an older video but wanted to ask relevant to the videos. How often are you dipping for more ink? Each line? Couple lines? Im using a 11rs and have been having the ink drip a bit after filling so am trying to solve this. Maybe needle is hanging a bit much?
@DanielYuck2 жыл бұрын
Thats a great question!! It really all depends on the cartridge at hand and the configuration I am using. Some needles I will have to dip in more over others I use. I feel there is a bit that goes into ink storage and how much ink may or does pool up under the needle. I like to hang my needle out a bit more as well so I can see my needle point easier as I only use the tip of my needle. If I had to say on average maybe every other line again that depends on the configuration. The larger the needle size the more ink we may need to dip for. The smaller the needle the less we may need to dip into the ink caps. What needle cartridges are you using on your end?

is it normal to use a 7 round shader for line work on someone's back for their first tattoo? it was about 18 inches long and 8 inches wide at the widest part. almost a full spine tat. the bottom 2 thirds he went a little deep and left major scar tissue that's causing me issues a year later. he said the 7 round shader was to make thin lines go into thick lines, so was this just so he wouldn't have to switch needles or is that normal for someone's first tattoo?

That’s a good question! I don’t think there is rules to which needle be used for what. Tattooing is an art form at the end of the day, so who is to say what needle would work best for you. I would use a round shader to pack color into something like a small tattoo, over a round liner. This is just an example , what I am saying is if putting some color in with a round shader works for you , it works for you. Haha

Does the lines heal properly with the Shader or can you see the streaks in them on real skin like on the fake skin
@DanielYuck3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question!! We can still see the lines upon tattooing round shaders into real human skin. However as the ink settles into the skin after the session during the healing process the ink tends to bold out a bit which could possibly result in the needle configuration marks settling into one another. So ultimately I would say that that configurations do settle in a dissipate but there maybe more variables to consider.

I feel this is subjective, I feel I’m not really supposed to like the fake skins full on as I would human skin , but I feel most skins on the market would help us in 1 way or another. Wether we are developing techniques or trying new styles most fake skins on the market are able to help us get to where we are going.
@DanielYuck3 жыл бұрын
@Paye ta Disquette This is a great question! Ok so let me start here. I professionally don't feel like 1 fake skin is better over the other and here's why. I have yet to see any fake skin made the same way or feel the same way. With that being said some fake skins are more tougher over others, some are very soft, some are different tones of colors, and everything in between. So what I am saying with this is that 1 fake skin may teach you how to line, another skin may teach you how to shade, another skin may teach you how to be more efficient. I would say look at the market, see what fake skins are available to you and invest into whatever you can. I don't feel there is "the best" skin but more so fake skins to practice. Of course everyone will feel differently about this.

Ahhhhh I have experienced this myself as well especially when I used a coil machine. For me I use needle cartridges which contributes to the consistency in my workflow. A patchy line can happen for multiple reasons. Some major reasons I feel would be not enough ink flow, the gear is not of a certain quality standard, the depth in which we went in with the needle was not correct, the hand speed may have been too fast for the voltage. What is your setup on your end? By that I mean what gear are you using? Are you using a coil or rotary machine?

When you see it close up you can instantly tell it's a shader and not a liner.. the lines are a solid black.. looks great from a distance tho..

@@kalvinsantero8122 obviously.. my point is the lines don't look as good with a shader..

u should only use round shaders if u dnt want any lines in your tattoo and ur going t shade off of it..othewrwise use a liner!

May you elaborate for me when you stated that shaders should only be used if we don’t want lines in our tattoos and shade off of it? I’m not sure I fully understand that part. I would never personally tell another tattooist of any caliber what needles they outta be using. I’ve seen Aston Reynolds amongst a hand full of others pull some BEAUTIFUL, full, bold , crisp and clean saturated lines with a round shader. I would not want limit my application based on terminology and titles of the equipment at hand. If that was the case no one would have ever used for example a 03RL for shading amongst other applications. Wether it’s a 06-08-13-03RL I’ve seen many artist use this configuration for shading, packing black into really detailed super tight areas, textures and more. What I am saying is I really feel like it’s an art form and it is all subjective.

Thanks great videos you do. An artist with any drawing skill could tattoo if they wanted to. But if you aren't comfortable pulling a line don't do it.

I love tattoo and practicing but it's so many emotions omg I feel so frustrated when I pull a line and the next one comes like crap... like cmoooon 💀 I feel blue bcs everytime I practice on fake skin it cames good till I wipe and then looks shaky and patchy or really light :( Makes me wonder if It's the skin or I just suck at this u_u but when I practice on oranges it cames so nice and saturated I mean obviously oranges just absorve all the ink while silicon don't caught it but still I'm confuse, can wait to try on my leg to really know whats going on with the real shit 🪦
