@@HCaulfield115 Well let's see how he steps up now that he has confidence. Every player has their best surface, but still manage to win on others. So much of it is mental so he keeps it togeather he may have a shot at the French or Wimbledon now the old gaud is passing. Or he could be a Saffin and just does it once. I'd prefer we see see a consistent champion that's committed and goes on to greatness.

@@johniii8147 in this presser Daniil himself said he’s not as smooth on grass. On Clay I think his ball is too flat to have great success there. But currently I think he’s the best on hard courts. He’s the best mover I’ve ever seen on the tennis court at that height. It’s pretty incredible how quick he is at 6 6

I'm a huge Novak fan and have been for a very long time, so I am quite disappointed that he lost. HOWEVER, out of all the people he could have lost too, I am grateful that it was Daniil. The guy is a real class act. Congrats to him!

@italkcrab We shall see. It will come down to his commitment to continue to improve or just be content with his victory. We've seen a lot of the latter. What set the big 3 apart was their relentless commitment to be the best. I don't necessarily see that of Danill yet. In his press conference he was more concerned about his party schedule and seemed rather uninterested in his remaining tournaments for the year. That's not how champions tend to react if they are really committed to being at the top of the sport.

I’m a big medvedev fan, and I have never really liked nole. But this match has made me become a nole fan. I just could not bear to see him with such emotion. Even though Daniil was winning, I felt really upset for nole.

@@asperneto The great players don't rely on the crowd. Part of the sport sometimes they will be rooting for your opponent. You shrug it off and don't take it personally. They just wanted to see more of match. They are not big Nole supporters in NYC but they like a match.

This guy is different, he has the brains of an e-sports player, he went pro relatively late and was hedging his bets with tertiary study, like he wasn't on the pro junior circuit. And that's why he can talk at pressers like he actually has something going on in his head. Cause he has experienced some alternatives. You know if his career ended suddenly he would find a dozen different things to do and succeed at. Whereas Tsitsipas, Zverev, Thiem.. if they had to stop playing tennis they would be staring out the window with a blank mind for years.

Novak has a puzzle to solve. Medvedev puzzle. Djokovic needs to figure out how to handle Medvedev’s second serve. Medvedev has basically two first serve. Only way to beat Djokovic is to have huge serve complemented with all around game. Medvedev has them all.

It's incredible that he says this was not the most nervous he's felt in a match. You are on the cusp of winning your first Slam, the crowd is yelling as you start to serve, and yet you are level headed to handle that kind of crazy pressure and close out the match. This fellow is a mental monster. He handles victory and defeat in a very objective way. He's gonna win a lot of slams. Yes, grass and clay are out of his league, for now at least. And add to that a Russian accent and a funny bone. Nobody hates this guy not Fedals not nolefam

Daniil's serve was diabolical, his shots were on point, and that dead fish was legendary. So happy for him! If there was any player who could've gotten Djokovic to lose, it was definitely him. Such an underappreciated player. It's unfortunate for Novak since we all know what he was trying to achieve, but who knows :) He's still strong and can aim for another calendar slam next year (he'll make 21 slams for sure though). Glad he was also able to feel some love from the crowd. Never heard them scream for him like that before. Must've meant a lot. Congrats to both for great tennis.

Always been a fan of Medvedev, had the pleasure of getting to see him at the Australian open and on the practice courts. Very gracious with the fans, his playing style is so enjoyable to watch, on top of his humor and intelligence. He played a magnificent game and as much as I wanted Djokovic to make history I am truly happy for Medvedev and wish him much more success that he has truly deserved. His interviews are great, very articulate, well-reasoned and genuine.

The crowd was hollering, yelling during Med's serving to close out of the 3rd set and that was unfair. The score should be 6-2 in the 3rd set. And I am not Med's fan, but fair play is expected in the spirit of competition. Congrat to Medvedev's achievement.

@@shikhab2250 I don't think they are disrespectful. Many in the crowd probably wanted to make their ticket money worth watching 4 or 5 set games. Would boxing spectators only wish to see a 1st round KO in a boxing match and go home so quickly?

I have been a Novak fan ever since 2008 and of course I really really wanted him to achieve the Grand Slam, but I'm genuinely happy for Daniil. He deserved this win in every aspect. Congrats!
