Now let's try to be accurate here: My "lecture" (what an inept choice of words) to her had nothing to do with her joy of listening to Daniil. My puzzlement comes with the idea that she (or anyone, for that matter) could possibly be inspired by the squirm-inducing grinning that accompanies his entire performance. In this connection, I hope you realize, for heaven's sake, that I'm hardly the only viewer who shares this opinion. I mean, aside from the infamous Lang Lang's equally squirm-arousing grimacing and posturing, how many pianists have you witnessed who conducted themselves in such a fashion? This ill-conceived idea of linking facial expressions with innermost feelings seems to be shared by nearly everyone these days. So much for sophisticated audiences.

That is perhaps the most beautiful thing I've seen and heard on a piano. I cannot think of another time where I was taken on such an emotional journey as Daniil took us all. It is judged to be an interpretation that goes beyond the composer's intention and transcends the original song that is passionate, emotional, dramatic and timeless.
