With this piece, Chopin brings to bear a complete and utter display of poignant emotion. This piece is a pianists dream. Blazing octave fanfares which conjure up demons from the piano, while chordal passages sing with such intimacy and sentiment that they warm the heart beyond measure. Arpeggiations so delicate the keyboard seems to stretch forever into the over-tone stratosphere. Scalar torrents which test a performers evenness and fluidity and tempo What is so fascinating is that this piece, while super serious, does not burden the listener with it’s brooding and cataclysmic temperament. aka: Chopin’s most serious “scherzo” Which in itself is.... ironic. From Wikipedia: “ melody and fanfares in-tune with an apocalyptic orchestra. I.e. Nordic Valhalla” To beat the irony horse:Truly a piece for the gods of piano

Aside from the technical brilliance and absolutely beautiful phrasing throughout, there's a sheer intensity to this performance that I don't recall ever seeing elsewhere. The way he leans into the piano as the coda starts to swell, and the demented look on his face as he glares through his hair toward the end as that coda becomes an absolute maelstrom of sound. And that ending, with the sudden stop before the final chords... just magnificent. Utterly magnificent.

The competition favors players with a more subtle, salon like, and sweeter singing tone. Trifonov is more energetic and plays in a more 'Rachmaninoff' like russian school manner with massive contrasts, loud banging chords and lots of pedal. It's passionate and beautiful, but not quite the 'Chopin' character they want.

Certain diront, je pense abusivement ou par incompétence, que c'est l’interprétation de l'artiste. Chopin à mis des quartolet de noir en mesure 1 3 et 5 ... Il à mis une croche à la mesure 4.
