Very nice experience. I've run the wheels off my two cargo vans in a year. (266k and 524k diesel) Temporarily out of service. Your video brings back awesome rewarding memories(and envy,lol), the mixture of seriously hard work and beautiful freedoms of travel and scenery. Lonely? Never! When I'm not rolling, I'm sleeping. Back to back loads. Never said no. Insane income. Easy 6-digits. But everything breaks eventually. Always take time and investment for a periodic thorough mechanical inspection. All my major breaks were something extremely simple...external components failure causing a major internal failure. Never fault of internal attrition. If a tech wants $125 for a full comprehensive mechanical inspection or preventive maintenance, pay it! It's cheap insurance. Godspeed!

Did you not make enough money to save for these problems?
@williamrobinson66802 жыл бұрын
@@johnoggle4580 Definitely. Comforting to see your checking drop $2500 for a repair, to know in 7 days it will be back or more. Several four digit repairs made out of pocket/cash. My personal goal was 3 trucks. Personal decision, not necessarily advised, but I invested in a third transport vehicle with a different carrier and new area of the country. Hopefully a niche specialty freight. I plan is to run vehicle #3, generate income to repair #1,#2. Then put drivers in them. Very doable, but success always comes with risks. Also, in a short time learning, it appears that smaller is better. Less fuel, maintenance, less time loading/unloading(fast!), maneuverability and parking issues etc. It's comforting knowing that traveling next to a larger transport vehicle, or big rig etc, that my bottom line final net net net will be the same or likely more, and I'll stay in my vehicle drive anywhere, and park and sight see just like any car.

I wish I still had enough strength and energy in me to do expedited. I thought about it when doing OTR with a semi as I started my journey with transportation doing expedited for a company but I settled for my own semi and doing short trips within 300 miles radius around Chicago and being home every day. OTR pretty much exhausted me to the point where I can't even look at trucks/vans and drive anywhere further than 15 minutes in my car without feeling exhaustion. But hey, maybe life will push me back to doing that, you never know.

I understand completely. I’ve run hotshots for 10+ years. When I first started otr I absolutely loved it. Back then I could stop at any location I wanted to see. We ran paper logs then. People don’t realize how hard it is tarping, chaining and strapping a load. I would stay on the roads for 3 months before I came home. This lifestyle is hard on the body. I ran so hard until this lifestyle caught up with me. I was literally exhausted all the time. I changed to running through the week and home on the weekends. I finally walked away from hauling a week ago. I’ll absolutely miss hauling. I’ve always been interested in the cargo vans but never got to try it. I hope you can start driving again.

Ok Guys. I'm going to answer the question for you!!!! You will not make this type of money if you are depending on loadboards or courier apps to try to make this type of income. These loads very much exists out there, its up to you to find the companies that have hot loads and are paying the price to get them delivered. I have personally seen loads from Atlanta to Virginia, Texas and Tennessee that pay over $7,000 for that load. It depends on the manufacturing company and how hot the load is. So yeah. $7,000 is rather normal (Kinda on the lower side) if you know what your doing in the business. Sometimes you can make $7,000 in one day, with a sprinter. You have to do your leg work, introductions and relationship building. You cannot forget that part. In the mean time, while you are building, you can contract with couriers that will keep you going, but daily you want to reach out to manufacturers that will put you on their vendor list to catch their hot loads.

Very cool to give your routine. I would like to start this work but I don't know how to start. Could you give me some tips? From what I researched, dispatchers ask for previous experience.
