MOST COMMON SUTURING TECHNIQUE IN GENERAL SURGERY: Buried interrupted & the interrupted subcuticular stitch. I forgot to add the word "AND". I apologize for any confusion.
This video is a VLOG of my experience in my General Surgery Clinical Rotation. I am a current physician assistant student in my second year of PA school out on my surgery rotation. I never had an experience in the operating room prior to this rotation. I was a complete beginner. Through out my surgery rotation, I worked with surgeons, residents, surgical PAs, medical school students, and PA students.
It was overall a great experience. I enjoyed general surgery more than I anticipated. I am still undecided of what specialty I will choose.... who knows, maybe I will become a surgical PA?!
Please don't forget to LIKE & SUBSCRIBE! It really does help me out a lot!

@@sundrin4481 so I wanted to be a doctor when I started college but I didn’t even know a PA was a thing (back in 2009). Because I knew no one in the field. A friend of mine wanted to be a PA (she’s a NP now instead and the other one isn’t in medical at all) and I looked it up and knew it was perfect for me but.. I still shadowed a physician and multiple PAs to make sure. So that’s definitely something I recommend. I’ve been a PA for 3 years now (working for 2) and I love the field. I wasn’t a fan of my first job which is why I left a year ago but it’s the actual job, not the profession. We even had multiple physicians leave that job when I did. I’m currently looking for a new job as we moved states. Biggest thing for me is lateral mobility. I started in family medicine and I would love to go into general surgery next.

I want to be a Anesthesiologist sooo badly. I’ve been working so hard and have been studying, grinding, cramming, and packing my days full of learning. What I’ve been learning is incredible and facilitating and something that I would dedicate my life too without hesitation. I’m only In high school but I’ve wanted to become a doctor for 5 years and I get more passionate about it with everyday! This is what I want my life to be like! I don’t care how much I have to sacrifice to go to med school or how long it could take me to get I to a desirable school. There is a part of me that is really terrified what will happen because parts of me doubt my intelligence and if I’ll ever get there but another part of me is extremely exited! I will never ever give up my dreams on becoming a doctor! I can’t wait when I can dedicate my life to my passion and fascination! No matter how many punches life throws at me ( even if sometimes they feel like gun shots ) I will never give up on my dream.

It worries me how all of the medical students and even doctors on youtube (and other social media) always describe how tired they are and how much caffeine they need... being chronically tired is worse than being drunk for decision making.
@DanithePA
@DanithePA 3 жыл бұрын
We’re overworked, that’s for sure! Any solutions?
@flygirlhandm
@flygirlhandm 3 жыл бұрын
@@DanithePA I think the solution is for everyone to actually admit the problem (seems that the entire system and even the doctors/students themselves are pressured into pretending it is ok). Then slowly but surely change the entire medical system in America. Put massive amounts of government money into changes over time that make sense (updates in technology to stream-line processes). But most of all, HIRE more people... have more nurses. Create new jobs that don't exist but make sense. For example, I went to a doctor once who had a medical student as a note -taker during the appointment that was doing all of the paperwork. That seems like a job that should just exist already: "professional medical note taker" that are taught about medical hygiene etc., but are very skilled in assistant and secretarial work. I think huge pressure has to be put on the system for these types of changes to be made. I really wish the current medical teachers and career doctors would try and push for these changes themselves (the way that they do in the airline industry... you don't sleep, you don't fly). Actually the airline industry is the perfect example. You could almost copy and paste their rules. I foresee a HUGE lawsuit (something involving huge amounts of money) in the next decade that focuses on how bad being chronically under-slept is for doctors. Maybe a giant study that really highlights the medical errors being caused by being sleep deprived. Maybe then actual change will happen. p.s. Sorry if my tone sounds annoyed. The irony of medical professionals constantly telling everyone how important sleep is, but then not sleeping themselves is frustrating. Not frustrated at the individual doctors, more at the system that allows this to take place. I think social media has made this issue more obvious. Thank you for what you do personally.

I love watching videos like this for 2 main reasons. 1: I wanted to be a trauma surgeon all through elementary school and 6th grade. 2: This past year now I’ve constantly been in and out of hospitals due to severe scoliosis. I had my spinal fusion surgery in January, a week and a half before I turned 13. I love getting to see the other side of the spectrum where I can see the experiences of all kinds of doctors or people who will be doctors. It’s so interesting to me seeing as they are the people that quite possibly saved my life. You’re video was so entertaining as well as informative and I genuinely loved watching it

It’s disappointing to see many PAs talk so highly about being a PA to only try and use a side hustle of social media to ultimately leave the profession by creating passive income. It comes access as disingenuous, as if one were content with their job, they wouldn’t feel the need to constantly post it for external validation. At least, that’s the trend I can see.

Residency is post-med school training, in this case, she is going for General Surgery residency, which is training for surgical fields. If im not wrong, after general surgery residency, you can choose a surgical especialty like heart surgeon. Depending on your chosen specialty, residency can last longer or shorter. Surgical residence lasts longer than a family medicine doctor, for example. Hope this helps.

@ lithbcyes4201 she’s not training to be a doctor. She’s training to be a physician’s assistant/associate, which doesn’t have a residency period. She’s probably in her second year of PA school, which is the clinical year.

The work of a surgeon must require a lot of responsibility and I suppose that before becoming a teacher you must spend many years as an apprentice until you finally specialize in a specific system (endocrine, circulatory, locomotor, etc.) and they let you direct your first intervention. On the other hand, I'm glad that doctors outside of Spain are better valued. I hope you did well in the exam, greetings from Valencia.

Nail polish on, taking your phone into the OR, hair flapping around all over the place, not wearing your mask properly... i'm sure you don't need to be told why the image you are reflecting is not an accurate or appropriate representation of the reality of a theatre nurse. Infection control and patient safety should come before your youtube channel, sub standard nursing practices are not needed on top of the challenges of the pandemic. Your pretty enough without the frills and fiddling, so i suggest you revisit your codes, standards of practice and reflect on the decisions your making in a clinical environment.

Nail polish increases the risk of hospital acquired infection, its a well known fact. Just because a surgeon is doing the wrong thing doesn't magically alter research. There are "unprofessional professionals" in all areas at all levels of hierarchy.

So I have a question that I would very much like to be answered preferably by someone who knows the healthcare system. I’m assuming that she is kind of like an intern who is going to work up to be something like an attending (got this from greys anatomy). My question is with these shifts, that I assume will get longer the more experienced she gets, will she be able to have a family with kids and stuff? It is my dream to become a surgeon but also to get married and have kids. Is there a good work life balance with this kind of job?
