I felt really happy that Nicaragua has won the title this year. Every time she was on the stage, she was stunning. I personally like Puerto Rico, she reminded me of the younger Penelope Cruz! I really couldn't understand how Australia reached the top 3. It would have been better if it was either Colombia or Puerto Rico. I have been watching your channel for the last two years and it gives me great joy that your channel is growing fast. Hope to see you from Mexico next year. Puerto Rico was top 3 material but when it was time to do the talk, she got nervous and almost stuttered through her response. Colombia made it all about being a mother (yes we get it!!!!) so Australia snuck into the top 3 under radar. But she couldn’t get past Thailand and Nicaragua.

Nicaragua chose Mary Wollstonecraft (one of the OG feminist writers, wrote "A Vindication of the Rights of Woman," contemporary of Rousseau and mother of Mary Shelley, who wrote "Frankenstein"), she and the translator just stumbled over the surname. When I heard the question I knew Nicaragua was going to nail it, she had Mary W in her Miss Universe bio and everything. Dear Dani. Thanks for your feedback. I'd like to add up a few details on your summary. - Despite El Salvador did well with the stage production & hosting the event successfully, I still feel the finals lack El Salvadoran cultural presentation in it. I'd love to see a similar event to the 2011 MU pageant in Brazil where they had Samba and bossanova performers during swimsuit and EG competitions. This year I expect to see at least a Salvadoran band to accompany the swimsuit portion & John Legend in other sessions. - I was hoping that Namibia or S.Africa would move forward, at least one african contestant in top 10. - Mary Wollstonecraft was a philosopher and authoress known for her advocacy for women's rights. In her book "the vindication of the rights of women, 1792, she encouraged for equal opportunity for men and women, specially with education and career. Twas awesome for Nicaragua for choosing Mary W and highlights the history of women's achievement dance 18th century. Meanwhile, Thailand chose Malala, who was born before her. For this type of question, it'd be more wise for choosing someone in the past and having him/her as role model

Best in Swimwear was Nicaragua . Best in evening gown was Thailand. Best Top 5 answer was Thailand. Puerto Rico should have advanced but she got nervous , made worse when she chose to not use the translator . Best answer in Top 3 was a toss between Thailand and Nicaragua. But it was clear the crowd was cheering on Nicaragua and Anntonia was pressured and could not deliver a stronger answer. You could tell she skipped a beat. Its really tragic because she was the overall best girl for the crown . Australia was beautiful and consistent that's why she went so far . Philippines performance at prelims was stronger than finals night. Her gown was stunning but she was fading behind the front runners like Thailand, Nicaragua , Colombia and Puerto Rico. You could tell she was under too much pressure to deliver. Unpopular opinion : I prefer her prelim gown more . The Filipinos are emotional about it but It was clear that She was a solid Top 6, but not Top 5.

If anyone could notice when Nicaragua appeared during evening gown her blue cape perfectly blended with the flowing waterfall in the background...that moment the judges must have already been convinced shes the winner I also have been telling from the start Australia will be in top 3 when none of the beauty pageant experts included her in top ten or worse many even ignored her...had her answer been the best she would have been the winner...i almost thought she win the moment the map in the background is of Australia right before the final results were to be announced ....this apart from the fact that the last time an Aussie was crowned the pageant was held in a non sash latin american country (Ecuador) Another observation is MU is favouring faces which were typical in Trump era more and more ...although there was a transgender, plus size and fully covered contestant like Pakistan in top twenty MU is slowly reviving many of the erstwhile glam aspects like having John Legend and the classiest evening gown in IMG era and prefering more glamouorous faces like Australia Colombia reminiscent of trump era

Thank you for your recap! I always enjoy Your videos! As for the headphones for the final Q&A, I recall one of the hosts, Maria Menunos I believe, stating that the other contestants put them on before they asked Australia the question. I don’t think it was seen on the telecast.

Dani! SO appreciate your support and defense of Colombia’s EG performance. I feel like it’s been super easy and, dare I say, “trendy” to attack what seems to be the same color/design of the gowns in recent years. When in reality, each dress and design has been inspired & unique to the girl wearing it. They’re all pieces of art that should be celebrated and have clearly helped our delegates advance. At the end of the day, as we know, it’s not the dress that wins but the actual candidate and what she has to say and do in the gown that counts. PS also thought that Camila had done enough to make it to the top 3 like you did, but alas. Thanks again for your amazing analysis! ❤ Also - additional MU content - would love to see you list candidates you’ve seen the last year at other grand slams that you think have the goods and should try for their country’s National MU competitions. 🤓

"If you could live one year in another woman’s shoes, who would you choose and why?" It will be Pura Villanueva Kalaw. She's the first Miss Philippines and she sparked the revolution to give Filipino women the right to suffrage. She's an artist, a writer, a humanitarian, a wife and a mother. She left a reminder that beutifully confident women can be the voice of change and imprint a legacy. Thank you. If I was asked of this question, this will be my answer. Dani, how will you answer this question though?

To be honest the first thing that came to mind would be to live a year in the shoes of a woman in a third world country to better understand her daily challenges. I could apply those experiences to improving the work I've done for the last decade, partnering with non-profit organizations like Feed my Starving Children and Same Sky, to better address sustainable solutions for poverty.

Just wanted to add that Nicaragua used in top 3 Q&A name: Mary Wollstonecraft. She was the author of "Vindication of the Rights of woman" in 1972 which is considered by many the cornerstone of advocating equality for women. She was considered the first feminist and was very vocal about her point that society is keeping women in the role of “convenient domestic slaves”. She advocated for women to be able to have any professional career they dream about (just like a men) Above being a writer and historian she also opened a school for kids. FUN FACT: She was the mother of Mary Shelley, - the author of "Frankenstein" .

Nice recap, Dani. First of all, the woman who Miss Nicaragua was referencing in her Final 3 question was Mary Wollstonecraft, mother of Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein). Now I have a question for you, Dani, there seems to be a bit of controversy swirling around attached to this year's pageant which I'm not going to get into. Do you see the possibility of transparency within the Miss Universe Organization occurring to the degree where scores are made available for those who may question them? Thanks
@PungiFungi Жыл бұрын
Because some of the powerhouse delegates either didn’t advanced into the top 10 or top 5? The only controversy is that the powerhouses may now be looking into the possibility that their sashes will no longer be relevant.
@kl3658 Жыл бұрын
well because the actual MU el salvador page posted a different top 5 before they deleted it and change into a diff contestant and someone took a shot of them double checking the result and aside from us, 3 of the judges there already spoke and wondering why that candidate was not in top 5 so we know that powerhouse that you mentioned is deserving to be up there, in short she was robbed.

Hi Dani. I am sure you missed it. I watched the live show from my country on KZbin and sound proof headphones were provided to Australia and Nicaragua. There's a clear announcement from one of the hosts for Australia and Nicaragua to accept the headphones and we could also see two women putting the headphones on for Australia and Nicaragua. I understand that when the girls were heading towards the centre stage we couldn't see headphones being removed because of the camera placements but they did have them on.😊

I Googled Nicaragua's answer on Mary Wollstonecraft and here is what I found: "Mary Wollstonecraft was known for writing A Vindication of the Rights of Woman: with Strictures on Political and Moral Subjects (1792). She was a British philosopher and women's rights advocate. The book is one of the earliest works of feminist philosophy. In it, Wollstonecraft responds to those educational and political theorists of the eighteenth century who did not believe women should receive a rational education. She argues that women ought to have an education commensurate with their position in society, claiming that women are essential to the nation because they educate its children and because they could be "companions" to their husbands, rather than mere wives. Instead of viewing women as ornaments to society or property to be traded in marriage, Wollstonecraft maintains that they are human beings deserving of the same fundamental rights as men."

I for one am not happy the competition is going to be in Mexico next year … the last two times Mexico hosted the pageant, USA was loudly booed every time she was introduced. It was shameful and and hard to watch our delegate have to put on such a brave face all the while being treated like public enemy number one.
@PungiFungi Жыл бұрын
I guess this year USA will have to crown a Mexican American or an American with Latin American ties to avoid getting booed.

Hi! I’m Vietnamese American and I support my 2 queens from US and Vietnam respectively. Im sad that Vietnamese delegate didn’t make the cut but at the same time I genuinely feel that by the time it reaches top 10, Any of those 10 ladies could have won and I wouldn’t have a problem honestly. I think theyre all queens. Each lady is So smart and beautiful. Of course at the end of the night there’s only 1 crown but just knowing that there are 10 ladies representing 10 different countries across the world, and theyre all equally intelligent and well spoken, it truly means something significant. It means we as society have come a long way in terms of giving women everywhere equal opportunity to education, to equality, that’s why we see our top 10 ladies being equally amazing. I’d call that a big win you guys 😄
