I always feel safe buying stuff from Russia. They’ll label stuff as “machining tools” and pack that shit so tight it takes a solid 5 minutes to get the layers of tape off but customs has never messed with my packages
@MrAJayLH2 жыл бұрын
Haha, that's true. We use a really lot of packing materials, since we're afraid our post may destroy the items. There's much of videos where you can see what our post workers do to the parcels sometimes
@user-he6un6sj3c2 жыл бұрын
The reason why the packages are wrapped so tightly is because Russian post is not secure whatsoever, it's common knowledge to make the contents of the package so difficult to extract that the person doing it would go "Fuck this, I'm not gonna bother.", because otherwise they will bother and between the package's origin and destination the contents will be replaced with rocks, bricks, packs of candy, you name it, anything to simulate the original weight. Not to mention how sloppily the packages are handled, ordering something that can be damaged by being bent is just asking to have it destroyed by the time it reaches you.

I can feel this pain on a personal level. Back in 2020 I had ordered a $400 (Canadian dollars mind you) custom mini figure for DnD. It was not only custom modeled, but also hand painted, well, my sweet little boy arrived two months late, and he was completely destroyed, not salvageable at all, he was like dust in the wind. I was genuinely upset, and Ebay just shrugged their shoulders and said it wasn't their fault.

I buy from Japanese ebay sellers as a game collector and guess what? They use the Japanese post not through any other company. It gets sent through a few other countries before hitting me but it’s never hitting eBay’s international shipping companies. It’s perfect. All my US ebay packages come through the USPS. That makes it great. Btw the Japanese post office for an SNES game uses a tiny bubble mailer wrapping it as tight as they can. Like the package is just big enough to hold the game so it doesn’t rattle around like crazy in the mailer. It’s just there. If it’s a DS game the person will put it in a plastic DS game protector unless they have the game case and they wrap it extra. It’s perfect!
@mintybudgie11 ай бұрын
whenever i buy japanese game consoles and such, they always ship with fedex which is nice since they use the fastest shipping possible for free. i always avoid buying from the us when i can and when i did have to use the gsp. i waited A MONTH for my package.

I felt that end bit about supporting local business. I used to get my meds from a Walgreens, and they were SEVERELY understaffed. Like I think they genuinely only had one full time pharmacy tech. The cars for the pharmacy drive thru would literately go around the entire store. But I ended up finding a local small like five stores big chain of pharmacy literately in a neighboring shopping center. Go in, they remembered me and my name by the second visit, have even refilled prescriptions on very short notice. Amazing people! Like this is exactly what I tell people. Even if the place isn't amazingly perfect, local businesses that at least try to give you a good experience are important. If we lose them, we end up bitches of a giant corporate machine that'll come up with new ways to screw us over with no way being able to do anything about it.

I ordered a server GPU from a seller in the UK and used the ebay shipping as it was cheaper and supposedly just as fast as the more "traditional" shipping. It was a Tesla M40 that was supposed to have a fan mod to cool it in a regular case. When it arrived the box was in brutal shape. The exterior shroud had the classic massive scar and the fan was missing, with the 3d printed fan mount snapped apart. I of course got in contact with the seller, who showed pictures of the whole thing together and packaged pretty well in a different box. I ended up printing my own fan adapter and mounted a fan I bought from microcenter to it and have been rendering stuff on it and using it for a virtualized gaming setup for two players on one pc.

In Sri Lanka if the customs want to unseal an object they send you a form stating that you product is on hold at the customs. I used to work for Hermes/EVRi in the UK and one of the biggest issues is that when parcels are loaded into trucks at the regional hubs for the main hub they are literally chucked into the trailer piled ontop of each other from back to front, no cages or crates to hold them. which includes eBay sellers shipping through parcel drop off points, its not always the service providers fault because a lot of sellers assume their package will be handled with care when thats not the case. its not like they dont care but the workers are under so much pressure to meet turnaround times that speed wins over care.

i now have an ebay woe story, and i didn't even use the global shipping since i'm from the uk. i ordered an ac for my room because it can be either too cold in winter or too hot in summer, and i found one that was affordable it was basically perfect. when it arrives, the packaging is absolutely busted, and whenever you move the ac in the slightest whilst it's on, it immediately switches off. it also has a feature to display room temperature and not even that works properly, it's always flickering. thankfully it still works, like it still warms and cools my room and that's all i asked for since that's the bare minimum. and that's the reason i don't complain since, technically, i got what i wanted. but it's hard to ignore the faults, you wanna adjust it or move it somewhere else, you can but it'll just turn off. it's also not great at picking up when you use the remote it came with. thanks ebay, i'm going back to amazon

I've only bought one thing through ebay from the US as a tea drinker across the pond, and I'll count myself lucky. It was Minecraft Volume Alpha on vinyl, special edition green splatter pattern discs for 45 quid, the guy who shipped it had the record in 3 layers of cardboard each side, the top two layers slashed and dashed, bottom thickest layers absolutely perfect and the record unscathed and unwarped due to the thick protection keeping it flat. I was expecting some issues and the guy was a huge legend. Absolutely loved chatting through the eBay seller messaging. He was so nice, and was shocked to see the package was slashed, I sent him an excited message that I got it and he had a minor freak out at the fact the eBay facility carelessly sliced the cardboard only missing the record because of the extra layer he put on last minute. Both he and I were pleased they didn't go for a round two of slash and dash, because if they did I'd have an unplayable or unpresentable vinyl record. I already had volume beta off amazon, fire red with orange, yellow and purple splatter pattern, and that was prestine. To get the first record perfect too made my year back in 2021. I've sworn off ordering abroad since then to not test my luck, as most stuff I want from overseas is expensive collectables and I'd rather not have them slashed and dashed, would make me mad

Oddly enough I’ve had to buy car parts from Australia to USA, completely opposite of Dank, and I had stuff go through some sort of global shipping partner, one of the things they’ve opened were car coil springs. Sliced through the box so messily when they retaped the box it was more tape than box. Gee I wonder why it was stapled shut guys. They also took the springs out of the box, then just taped the box around each spring with bubble wrap, absolutely hilarious. Also for the car the springs were for, 85 Subaru GL-10 wagon, for some strange reason some place in Australia made not only OE springs, but higher strength springs too! Literally only place I could find them world wide. Man that $260 shipping was worth those fancy bigger springs.

While we’re on the Pitney Bowes shipping troubles rant: instead of sending my package (nearly a month after I bought it) to Toronto, Ontario (literally the largest city in Canada) for customs clearance they sent it to a literal empty field in Toronto, Prince Edward Island (which is so tiny and empty it has to be called an “unincorporated area and civic address community”) where it sat for seven weeks before being shipped all the way across the country to Vancouver (which is itself perfectly capable of handling customs clearance). The kicker? It was sent from Seattle, literally a 2-hour drive south of Vancouver. All for a screw and silicone gasket. Anyways, love your vids, thanks for making them and brightening my day!
