Also, quick note, HD600 are 103dB/v. They were rated 97dB/mW when that unit was more common, but now, with most headphones being rated by voltage rather than power. So, going by voltage, their sensitivity is 103. (The Sennheiser website says 97db/v, but this is thought to be an error where someone may have updated the unit but not the number. Third-party measurments also come to around 103dB/v)

Fun fact about the Easy-To-Run Headphones: They can sound rather noisy on certain devices, such as laptops, since the minimum power that can be output is rather high, resulting in it having limited dynamic range (and hence, noise). I was able to reduce the noise and improve the sound quality by putting a variable resistor in series, which also functioned as an old-fashioned volume knob.
@oXPsYXo Жыл бұрын
They sell 80 ohm barrels you can plug at the end of the jack that accomplishes this, raising the noise floor so the electrical noise isn't so prevalent while still allowing the sensitive headphone to run off a dongle / laptop. Amazon has them under "Impedance Adapter" for around $8USD

So far I'm down to "balanced mids, slightly boosted bass, and for God's sake no super bright and tinny uppers!" Probably comes from having played drums in band and knowing what the cymbals are supposed to sound like. They're suprisingly low in tone, at least the ones my school had, the high pitched tss was more of a highlight than the main sound. And that's all I get from the HurrDurr600s.

Guitar amps still often use vacuum tubes too. They're preferred for guitar because they'll start to clip the signal beyond a certain volume, giving you an overdriven sound.
@LordofDiamondsMetal Жыл бұрын
yeah, despite solid state amplification being technically superior in many ways, some people still cling to tube amplification, especially guitarists. it's supposedly because tubes clip the signal in a fundamentally different way from transistors, producing more even harmonics that sound "sweeter". but you only hear that effect if the signal is pushed so hard that it clips and distorts, and for a listening situation that's not what you're looking for

Judging from what you already have... K712 Pro [Warm Neutral Leaning; with good soundstage; Open Back] DT 770 Pro [Treble/High Focused; Closed Back] You could accentuate the mix up with something like : Meze 99 Classics [Dark/Bass V shaped; Close Back] Hifiman Sundara [Planar, Mid-Bright Leaning; Open Back] To not sidegrade into a sound you already have, or : Focal Clear MG if you want to have a nice all rounder that's warmer than the K712 while being a little more 'fun' and not being as bright at the DT770, just a sort of 'right' in the middle sound. The K712 Pro is nearly identical in audio presentation to the HD600 with a few particularities so! I can't advise combing around more neutral 'reference headphone' sounds. You'll fall into the trap a new people get into which is, buying many headphones that sound very similar when they could get a range of sounds OR EQ instead!

I remember my old DJ cans which had max input up to 3500mw yet they were only 32ohm and iirc 106db or so. They got so stupid loud.

i got my self an akg k340 since they`ve been mentioned before. now it was quite a weird feeling to listen to the sample through the actual headphone:) i really love the 340`s - they put a smile on my face everyday!

This brings up my preferences...I absolutely adore Audio Technica's ATH-M50X over-ear headphones...they can be driven by a phone or portable CD player fairly easily...but I own a Schiit Audio Asgard 2 headphone amp...class A power up to 1 watt!! The way the amp lights up the audio from the ATH-M50X's is INSANE! Quality power with headroom makes an incredibly nice change to the music. Sure I could drive damn near any pair of headphones with the Asgard 2...it really does have a noticable and healthy impact.
