I used Dan’s exact script. I wrote everything down and practiced for a few days before my interview and when it came I nailed it! I could see it in the interviewer’s eyes. Once I ended by asking ‘is this along the lines of what you’re looking for?’, it was game over. Got offered the job less than 24 hours later and higher salary than what I expected. Thank you Dan! Everything you taught is correct. I would just like to add that most interviewers at the end will ask, "Do you have any questions for me? " Your answer should always be "yes" Ask questions like, "How long have you been with the company and how do you like working here? " followed with "What made YOU interested in this job when YOU applied? " I have several more, but my point is, this shows you have genuine interest in the company. It has worked for me every time so far.

You nailed it. Normally in interviews you are in answering mode, you have to stop and think about how to not only answer every question truthfully but in a way that puts you in a good light. Asking them questions that they have to answer personally puts them in your position, difference is you can drill behavioral interview questions and they can't drill your questions. My personal favorite is "What is something you know about the job now you wished you knew when you started working here?". It allows them to subtly clue you in to the more difficult or non-obvious parts of the job, and at worse it throws them off balance and gives you a few seconds to think.

Memorization is the Key. When I was applying in call center in the Philippines, I failed 3 times. I keep on researching because my communication was very poor.I remember, the day before my interview, I rehearse everything. We were 13 living in 1 apartment with my friends who failed many times aswell. 1 of my friend said, Why are you rehearsing?? why do you need to memorize?? it should be comming from your heart..! I just ignored him.. Guess what?? Out of 188 applicant that day, only 18 made it and I was one of them.. 11 of my friend failed including the person who questioned me for rehearsing. Dan Lok is right. You have to practice it many times and when you alreadt memorize it, feel and talk like you are talking from the heart.Just talk slowly, dont make it fast.The interviewer might not understand your accent.

I used this video as well as his other interview videos to prepare. This was the first time I felt confident in responding to "tell me about yourself." The interviewer even told me "very nice" after I said my spiel as outlined in the video (I didn't end with the question because I'm not THAT confident 😂). At the conclusion of the interview, they told me I wouldn't know a decision until 2 weeks later, but they ended up offering me the position two DAYS later. Thank God I found this video!! Guys if your are scared about the questions asked by HRMs, such as "About Yourself", "Weakness", "strength.." "Hobbies" etc. Just remember that these HRs are just asking you a recursive question, as they don't have the knowledge to ask you anything else. They just need your help to start a conversation with you. So when ever you go to an interview with any HR, treat it like a regular conversation. And with the answers of these recursive question, you have the power set direction of the whole conversation.

I rather underestimate myself and overdeliver, rather than overestimate myself and get fired for not living up to expectations. If you talk all high and mighty about yourself and as you begin getting used to the job, you're at your weakest and most vulnerable state. From that first impression you will be identified by your initial amount of competence you display from your first tasks.

One of the best videos that I have ever seen. It saves your face in the interview and teaches you how to be well prepared and equipped before meeting the hiring manager. It is really embarrassing when you have been asked a question about yourself and you are kind of freeze and stutter and don't know what to say. I learnt from this video that any responses have to show how your background or skills will contribute to adding value and benefits to the company that you're applying to.

Bad idea. Microsoft's CEO looks for two things in interviewing, clarity and energy. Answering the question in that way makes you look like you need direction in a conversation. Using the videos example of a vacant social media manager position, if an interviewee responds that way the interviewers may feel that you can't represent yourself or your skills without direction. If you can't sell yourself to the company, how are you meant to sell the company on social media everyday? You as an interviewee should be trying to show an understanding on how to be successful in the company and how you bring value as a hire. Anything else is irrelevant in the confines of an interview.

This is an excellent video. Thank you so much. I cannot tell you how many good job opportunities I messed up when I was younger just on the “tell me about yourself” question.

Hello! Messaging from Brazil! I found this video one day before my interview. I was first interviewed about 2 months ago and I felt I insecure when I needed to answer the first question: Tell me about yourself. I felt I was in rounds and going nowhere. It was very frustrating. At end June I was invited again to my dream opportunity! I could not miss this one. Of course I could not sleep on that night, I just kept memorizing my script that I was passionate about after writing it considering all tips from Dan! It was simply amazing. I also checked on some other videos from Dan and I had this amazing feeling of full confidence on what I was doing. The interview was a success and 1 week later I was informed I got the promotion! I am feeling so grateful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me!

from a HR perspective, the “tell me about yourself” question is actually a gateway to create conversation. when you’re being hired for an executive position or something similar, they’re looking more for potential to mesh with the current culture, so similar personalities and ensure that employees won’t clash. hiring for managerial positions is more on competences. so the question really creates opportunity for people to share about them self to ensure that interviewers get to know someone that they had no idea other than their resume and linked in profiles.

My biggest takeaway was "So when you are in front of that potential hiring manager, you are ready to go" THIS IS KEY. I am not actively looking for a job but I will be in a few months. This is what got me the role I currently have and I will continue to pursue higher-level roles in the near future. Elon Musk Tweeted "Stop being patient and start asking yourself, how do I accomplish my 10 years plan in 6 months? You will probably fail but you will be lot further ahead of the person who simply accepted it was going to take 10 years" this is so powerful and you Dan Lok have the ability to help people get to that point. @@mikepawlikguitar as a recruiter myself I partially agree. There are many idiots in the field that have no clue what they are talking about or what to ask. I see a basic set of skills for the job as an absolute minimum. After that I ask questions to get to know more about their personality. Is it the type of person that will get into arguments with colleagues and/or the manager? Will the person fit in the group with his colleagues? Will the person follow several important rules even though they may be kind of annoying to follow? For this I have both the interests of the company, and the applicant in mind. As recruiters, we are humans and sometimes we will make mistakes in judgement. Sure, but for every bad applicant we hire, or every good applicant that doesn't get the position, a good recruiter will get many others hired that are excellebt for the job/company.

In my recent job interview I talked about past experience how I handled difficult situations which is similar to the position I applied for. What I said was quite random, then I ran out of things to say because I don't know what else to say. I had been talking about my experience and some of my skills for some time. He was there like quiet and just keep listening. What annoys me was he didn't response or anything. Eventually I ask my interviewer "Can you be more specific about the things you want to know about me?" (Not sure if I should have directed this question to my interviewer, but I did it..) Then he said "nothing much, just a break the ice question". The conversation goes on for a little while and before I left, he said "there is a good news for you, you are hired!" Well, kind of surprised. That's why I'm here to check what I said that triggered my interviewer to hire me on the spot. Kind of get the idea now. (Successful achievement in the past, not about personal life) Thanks Dan Lok for the cool tips and advise 👍

"Tell me about your self?" is such a tricky and vague question asked by recruiters during an interview. The problem is that interviewee does not know what it actually means and no one teaches you about such things in life. Whenever a recruiter asks this question it gives you a feeling like he/she has not gone through your resume, so you start rambling about your personal life and achievements. I believe it is not the interviewee's fault, the question itself is not appropriate. I think that recruiters should ask straight-forward questions, so that candidate knows what is being asked. Why play with words, confuse the candidate, and expect a magical answer. Funny thing, when recruiters went for their first job even they didn't know what this question actually meant. So, be humane and ask proper and clear questions. Recruiters should not try to be smart_ss and should not expect fakeness from candidates as well. However, Dan Lok has given wonderful tips about answering interview questions. So we should take them on board. Also, I like to thank Dan for sharing his wisdom and experience.

Exactly. Today they asked me to introduce myself. In my mind I was thinking, well haven't you gone through my resume/CV? Should I tell my name which is already there or should I tell you my qualification which is again there or should I tell you my age which is irrelevant or should I tell you my whole story why I am here for this job? There is no guarantee that the interviewer is better than an interviewee. What if the interviewee is technically better than the interviewer in some of the aspects. What if you can not express yourself how good you are? I have seen many people who speak/communicate better but they have no good idea of the topic. They just use their communication skills to disguise their fakeness. This does not mean they are actually better. But for 5 min of the interview, they seem perfect. But from another perspective, it's normal to ask this question. Because the interviewer thinks this is the best way to initiate the interview. Also, they were asked the same question in the past while they were interviewed. It's inside there mind and they ask the same question to us. Think it this way, what would you ask or how would you initiate the interview if you were the interviewer? In general, everyone will do the same. But I really do not want to answer this question. And the point is, this is not even a question and this is technically the most senseless statement.😁😁 How can you judge anyone in 5 min? At the same time, there is no any other best way too. oops, this is complicated. This really is complicated, man. I hate job interviews. I wish I never had to face any interviews.
@salmanhassan4574 жыл бұрын
@@sebakoli6781 If you do not like interviews then you should think about working for yourself. I mean self-employment, freelancing, or starting a small business. About the interview questions, some silly things have become the norm and almost all the interviewer ask similar questions. If you formulate your answers and practise them; there is a great chance you will get the job. However, still, if you do not get the job, sometimes a closed door is a blessing in disguise. Failure gives you the chance to get up again, brush it off and try again. So never lose hope and keep trying again and again. Your time will come and you will shine.
