The other week I was making a cake with my stand mixer and the recipe called for hot water mixed in last. The chocolate mixture and water splashed everywhere, I had the biggest MESS. My aunt was a super cook and we used to laugh at her because every pot she had would be dirty but we sure did not complain about the meal she fixed us. She used to make the best yeast rolls, they were so light and they would melt in your mouth. I can remember my grandmother dipping snuff. I did the same thing with cocoa and sugar. It is amazing to think about the things that we lived through many years ago. I really cherish those memories now. I do not know how my grandparents survived, they did not have heat or air in their house. They used wood stoves to keep warm. In that bathroom, you did not stay long in there either. She even had a claw bathtub. I can remember the first thing she did was make a fire in that wood stove and cook the most amazing breakfast. Sausage, grits, and the most amazing biscuits you ever put in your mouth. She even churned butter. What memories that mean so much now.

My Mama and my Aunt Evelyn both dipped snuff when I was little. I begged for it too. My aunt finally just filled my lip full of snuff. I must have inhaled some of it because I coughed and sneezed for a good while. And I must have swallowed some because I was nauseous. I never asked for it again. Aunt Evelyn very wisely taught me a lesson. I love this brownie recipe, thanks.

My grandmother didn’t dip snuff but my granddaddy did and us kids did the same cocoa and sugar thing as you did! Brought back a long ago childhood memory! I think kids all over the South did the same things and played the same games. We didn’t realize how lucky we were not to have technology interfering with our childhood!!

I knew that cookbook was in trouble when you started--I was afraid the vanilla would drip on it or some of the batter would splash on it. Hopefully, cocoa will brush off easily. I get cocoa on everything when I use it. Maybe you should make another batch of brownies with that flour now! lol

my great grammaw had a snuff tin in one pocket of her apron and a corncob pipe with tobacckee pouch in the other! She was always laughing about something us kids said or did! Simple pleasures for that time.

Mama Sue, I think it’s almost impossible to not make a mess with cocoa and powdered sugar. They just poof everywhere. My paternal grandmother dipped Superior snuff. She’d pull her little cheek back and pack it in with a tiny wooden spoon. I remember me and my cousins rolling up corn silks in a corn husk and smoking it, ONCE. The punishment was we all got so sick.🤢 It’s always good to reminisce, even if it was remembering a hard lesson. God bless you and your family.

Talk about making a mess. Before Christmas I was making a batch of Cool Whip cookies and I was using a Red Velvet cake mix and man did I get that everywhere.

My mamaw had a cousin that came every summer and spent a week and she dipped her husband didn't let her at home so she came up and she did it the whole time she was there she went out beside what we called the pit and set in the sun
