It all boils down to range. The bike itself is great. I use it for commuting and for that its perfect. I can't imagine a tour >100km without a lunch break that I can use for charging. It's the same es with electric cars. Most of us don't need more range and those who really do can still burn dinosaurs.

Exactly that - every bike is fit for the purpose it's designed for/your particular usage model and same with this one. It's just - on this experience - it's seriously hampered by the fact it's so slow to charge if you want to go beyond its comfort zone. But, as in your case, if your commute is within that then party on, because it hits every other nail right on the head!

I rode one these motorcycles a couple of weeks ago and the performance of the motor is perfect for the road. Instant roll-on up to 100 mph is excellent. Sounds great. Handles ok. The discs were warped and the dealer said they had replacements (not sure why they hadn't fitted them to their demonstrator). If it was cheaper I'd consider one.

In the US road maintenance tax is collected by a cents-per-gallon surcharge on gasoline and diesel fuel. Currently for those with electric motorcycles (or cars) that recharge at home overnight pay no road tax whatsoever. In time I'm sure this will be remedied. All of that immediate torque on an EV is nice I suppose, but the shine of that is dulled somewhat knowing that using it will reduce one's already marginal driving range. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out over the next 10-20 years. Nice video. Thank you.

EV are not good on highways, including Tesla, valid point about the CCS, many riders would like Zero to offer this. Currently the best option is 12.6 kW with the "Rapid charger" while CCS would get you 20 kW peak.

Very interesting piece, thank-you. Great to hear someone engaging with this issue in good faith and with a desire to be objective. When you think how long it has taken to get ICE motorcycles where they are now, and where electric motorcycles were just 10 years ago, it’s actually remarkable the progress that has been made. Prices, relative to ICE have come down dramatically, almost at parity, weight is at parity, torque is significantly ahead, power is down but more than enough for all conditions of legalish riding, range is improving, as is the infrastructure. How long before EB’s, even in this genre, reach a point where a significant number of us might consider one as our next adventure bike. There are loads of us out there on GSA’s capable of huge ranges that are never actually used. I couldn’t make the choice with this current range, but how much more range would be enough to consider this option? My Versys 1000 has me stopping to fill up every 170 miles or so. If zero could get reliably to a 130 mile range across a range of conditions then many might consider it. And let’s add, as we must, that one of the reasons for going electric is that we are facing a climate emergency and these vehicles allow us to engage in our first love whilst making a much reduced contribution to this emergency. Interesting piece

You try and insure one, insurers won't touch a lot of riders, young, returning with no recent experience, and it's not cheap. They know the performance .

It’s called a Zero, because that’s what it’s worth on KBB. You’ll never be able to trade it in, and Zero doesn’t stand behind their product. They have known manufacturing defects that they won’t cover.

Have you seen the Teapotone video where he did a tour on an electric bike, it obvs took him longer because he had to keep stopping to charge and also it cost him a lot more to charge it than it would have cost in petrol.

Your range on the electric - you're projecting, what?, 80 ish miles around halfway through the video. So, out with my mates on "ice" powered bikes, they now have to accompany me to wait at an electric charge point, after they spend a few minutes refuelling, having done > 130 miles on their petrol... Even my 27 year old "Neanderthal" Honda VTR1000 gets around 110 miles before flashing the fuel light, and sounds fantastic! Not being sold so far. Your price comparison with the Honda bike ( Africa twin ), you said it has electronic suspension (bumps up the price), yet your electric bike looks to have very basic suspension - surely skewing your comparison unfairly? Your closing charging part of the video confirms that these electric toys are not the future.
