@@t1mburt0nsdandruff Manga and anime have male AND female protagonists who suffer from social anxiety, and struggle through it, e.g., 'How Not to Summon a Demon Lord', 'Komi Can't Communicate', 'Bocchi the Rock!' Those series do NOT show these protagonists succumbing to their social anxiety and then the supporting characters coddling the protagonists the way American comic book writers want to be coddled in real life; they show the protagonists TRIUMPHING over their problems, such that supporting characters are often ignorant of the fact these problems exist. What do you think is a more supportive message?

@@longtsun8286 Here’s the thing: I do like it when the character with social anxiety begins to overcome it and get development, but autism is pretty much permanent. While there are autistic extroverts, they still have trouble understanding socially. There are autistic celebrities, like Elon Musk, Dan Ackroyd, and Tim Burton, and even Albert Einstein was autistic. But that’s not the point. What I’m saying is that American comics act like they’re all inclusive, yet they’re really not. (Raceswapping isn’t even inclusivity) Most of these female protagonists don’t even have a reason that they’re “not like other girls”. Ex: having autism, Down’s syndrome, Tourette’s syndrome, or any other disabilities or disorders. Heck, they don’t even have vitiligo or anything. They’re all perfect Mary Sues that don’t suffer from anything and act like complete snobs. I do think that the characters that triumph over their anxiety is a better message, but I’m talking about permanent mental disabilities.

Yeah, on the witchcraft thing, I think that's a them thing. I have literally heard in the past year that some of these people writing these books have been literally doing tarot card readings to make money. Instead of you know, just writing good content. I first really noticed it in I am not Starfire when Mandy had a poster of a tarot card in the background. And since it's like a "Where's waldo" type thing.

Let's start a list (feel free to add or contest any point): Character Depth Shades of Morality Natural, flowing dialog Character Consistency Verisimilitude Set-Up and Pay-Off were actually logical and rewarding Author did Research and it shows (without the author jamming this fact down our throats) Opposing ideologies are shown as sensible at different times and from different PoVs Likeable Characters

I need it for a fan fiction I'm thinking about writing.

I’m going to say they’re fake witch fans just trying to do the “high fellow cool kids!” thing. A pentagram is not what I would think of for Baba Yaga, she’s famous for three things: grinding up bones to make flour for her bread, living in a house that walks around on chicken legs, and flying around in a mortar and pestle.

This made me cringe once I noticed. Baba Yaga isn't even a "witch", at least not in a way americans view witches. She so much deeper, hell, in a lots of folk tales she isn't even a villain and instead helps the main character once he/she passes her trials. No fkng pentagrams and demon summoning in sight.

My lovely little friend. Here's a late comment. When we were kids we would sometimes go to bingo with our grandmother. It was hosted by the VFW and liquor was still being served, even though the hall was now packed with the lovely bingo-playing women and their feisty young'uns (me for one). We went many times and every time we went the guy calling out the numbers, he was drunk as a sailor. Honey, he was hammered. He constantly slurred his words but all the lovely women spoke 'drunk', so that was no problem. He would sometimes get the white ball turned around and reversed, and still try to make some kind of sense out of it when there wasn't any, and that just made everybody laugh. So, hell yes, Bingo.

I think Cat counts as both "hero breaking the law", if we want to believe she is a "Robin Hood-like burglar", and a "villain who is good", if she is still the current Kingpin of Crime. (Like I like Felicia in her earlier iterations, so it always feels weird to me seeing that she is a leading lady in current day Marvel, because I never have hope in what they do nowadays)

I dunno, I like the history of witchcraft and seeing the book with the title "Baba Yaga", a Russian folklore character with a pentagram, a symbole mostly used (in connotation with witchraft/wiccan magic) in western europe makes me cringe. I've never seen these two depicted together, f-ing posers I tell you.

One of the only female characters I like is Coraline, mainly because she’s somewhat of a brat that realizes that her fantasy world is a nightmare and sets things right with her family.

It makes me feel better about my story. It’s a story about the three sons of Dracula (it’s cliche, but he’s dead, so he doesn’t appear in the whole thing besides the backstory) that live in London because of the mob that killed their mother and was about to kill them, so they were sent from Romania. They’re adults now, and Desmond is the youngest, who is autistic and has a special interest in violin, and he was kept away by his older brothers. He was a baby at the time where the “incident” happened. Lucius is the oldest and has PTSD from seeing his mother burning at the stake by the villagers at the age of 114. He wasn’t a very good caretaker to Desmond when he became old enough to raise him and Stefan (middle) on his own. He loves painting, especially his wife, Colette. Stefan is the middle child, and he’s flirtatious and a jokester, but he doesn’t really have a talent, which makes him slightly insecure. He has anxiety because he’s terrified of the idea of his brothers separating, and he’s the one holding the family together. (The vampire men have cracks under their eyes while the women have dark circles around them. Desmond is slender, has shoulder length black hair, and violet eyes (which makes him a rare, and very dangerous vampire species). Lucius had short black hair that’s slicked back with a strand of hair on the forehead, is muscular, and dark red eyes. Stefan is toned, with slick black hair with white curtain bangs, (yes, like Sweeney Todd) and light blue eyes. Colette has brown hair, cobalt blue eyes, has a French accent, and her body is, well, what was considered the beauty standard back in the 1800’s. She’s a post human vampire, which means that she used to be human, but her family was incredibly abusive, so Lucius saves her and she agrees to marry him and become a vampire. Their love story is gonna be a flashback. All of them have sharp fingernails) Anyways, Desmond meets Penelope, a Frankenstein with long blonde hair, a giant stitch across her face, chestnut eyes, and tiny bolts on both sides of her head. She’s also autistic and very bubbly, while he’s more shy and not good at communicating that much. They’re romantically attracted to each other, and they help each other with their problems. Penelope wants to figure out her past while Desmond tries to figure out what’s missing in his music. That’s only the first part. The rest is more like a mystery type thing, and eventually there’s a spy named Matilda, who’s a redhead with emerald green eyes and is a tsundere for Stefan, and the main villain is Thomas Van Helsing, who wants to eliminate all vampires, especially the Vérgyermek (Dracula) brothers. (There’s vampires that give up the drinking blood lifestyle, like you know how Nezuko from KNY can resist blood, and try to lie low, some of them even have families) I know it’s a long comment, but atleast the premise of my story is better than what Marvel is pumping out.

man, these stories... the bingo chart is the sole point of entertainment; on their own, they're so dreadfully dull. is this the superhero fare people want? just a bunch of meaningless dialogue from vapid characters, no real action happening, and the one supervillain fight was ended by some random civvie? i can credit current Marvel with at least one thing: after experiencing that, i feel more confident about my own stories, since i think i can write circles around anyone involved in this book accidentally.

I think it had been more interesting if they had made Gaiman's Books of Magic, except this time sending the protagonist of Women of Marvel to travel all ages to learn how independent and strong women yielded powerful magic, or anything else. A frame of a book getting dust in a bookshop and the protagonist declaring she looked for it for a long time isn't that interesting as the writer thinks it to be :-(
