An absolutely amazing tribute to those who fought and never returned. I was at Folkestone beach and stood, like many, in silence as the last trace of Wilfred Owen was washed away. Congratulations to Danny Boyle for orchestrating the event and the wonderful people of Folkestone who so kindly welcomed and included us all. Sian Edwards

At last! ...... so many people want to take part in something to commemorate that day. The day World War one ended. What a feeling it must have been after 4 years of war and everything which preceded 1914. This informal event will be just perfect .... no matter the weather to commemorate those who died and also those who lived thereafter .... with memories they would rather have never had. Count me in.

What a wonderful idea. I wish I'd read about it all before today, too late for me to visit a beach but I am full of admiration for Danny Boyle. Feel very moved by this XX

A wonderfully imaginative way to remember. I'm wondering whether you've considered making the portrait at Folkestone an amalgam of faces made up from photos of a number of men who lost their lives so it would, in a way be, an "unknown soldier", thus representing all the men. This would be fitting at Folkestone as so many marched through the town never to return to these shores again. Lynne Ewart

Sounds like a fitting tribute

The Folkestone Footprint project is underway - the first 16 are being installed at Sandgate adjacent to the war memorial in time to be unveiled on 11/11/18. Also the Edith Cavell Railway vehicle is being displayed at Folkestone Harbour from Fri 12th Oct '18 to Sun 28th Oct '18.

What an amazing idea being an island in times gone by the only exit and entry to the UK was via our beaches and ports. very poignant.

Why have we not been told about this ? No mention on BBC ahead of the day itself .

I agree, I have just found out watching the Remembrance Services on BBC. I would have gone to Ayr Beach but too late now.
