Prince G-MO Excited for King Push because the Prelude was so dope, but Layers was cool to me, not AOTY material but a good project. But when it comes to boundary pushing hip hop and execution in experimentation, Danny got it with this one, but hey it's just my opinion.

The "dance in the water and not get wet" line is a reference to drug use and the risks associated with it. Danny is saying that he is using these hard drugs (dancing in the water) but not suffering from the problems that could come with it (getting wet).

Someone said one time to listen to Danny's albums like a story where the high voice is him when he's high and happy, and then his normal voice is him after he's come back down and his depression has started consuming him again, and I feel like this album really benefits from listening from that perspective, it really helps paint a picture of just how stuck he is in this endless loop of getting high to escape his depression and anxiety, but then coming back down and being worse than ever, and having no other way to remedy it than just repeating the cycle. I also feel like it's really beneficial to understanding the album to read Danny's depressed/anxious/suicidal breakdown that he had on Twitter a couple years back, it really helps to paint a picture of the kind of dark stuff that's going on in his head.

k1dkur0 As someone who likes both, I totally get it. I absolutely can understand anyone thinking it's annoying. what it adds though is the charisma and energy, it's not really his high pitch voice on purpose, it's just when he's yelling on the track with passion, he sounds like that. in his more subdued tracks where he's not exploding he sounds like another person.

Hip-hop album of the decade so far. Squeaks past RtJ2. This shit is insanely inventive. He made a true sequel to XXX. This is Mania: the Album. Danny sounds like some demented carnival barker on "Ain't It Funny"... that Alchemist beat on "White Lines"... the mixture of post-punk and Detroit techno... I could go on all day. I agree with Beezy and Myke on this one. And I didn't even catch that "B.O.B." reference... but it makes perfect sense. Look at Dilla's "Donuts" turning 10 the same year that another Detroit artist drops this album; "Atrocity Exhibition" has me excited for hip-hop's future.

I fell in love for this album when I heard It Ain't funny, craziest beat I heard all year, and the way danny flows on that was fucking dope. This album was great, top 3 2016 easily.

Longtime viewer, loved to see y'all make the same connection from Three Stacks to Dany near the end of the video. This album has made me wonder if Danny Brown is the spiritual successor to Andre 3000, and I would love to see y'all tackle that question some day!

I WAS WAITING FOR THIS REVIEW!!! I'm with Feefo on this one. I respect Danny's creativity to the MAX and he's definitely one of the most original artists out right now, but I can't get with some of those beats and his voice. I completely get why people love this album though. It's different!

First off, the 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' comparison you made Myke is incredible, I totally agree. This album is awesome, for sure in my top 5 of the year without a doubt. Easily my favorite Danny Brown album and I've been a fan since XXX, but this elevates him to the next level. If I was just a fan before because I thought he had two great albums, now he is one of my favorite artists with one of my favorite albums. Incredible, I saw this coming when I heard "When It Rain" and I think that song might be the best on the album, it is unlike anything I've ever heard. Which is something that can be said for much of this album. I think "Dance in the Water" is brilliant, even with the verses being sorta sparse, it is still one of my favorites. This whole album is unreal. "Ain't It Funny" "Golddust" and "White Lines" are so fucking dark, not that the rest of the album isn't but those really encapsulate it and mark what the album is when you get to them. Funny that they come after "Lost" like at that songs point Danny is just lost in his trip and "Ain't It Funny" is when he starts thinking about shit and shit goes downward fast, and the last five songs are kinda like aftermath mode where the biggest horrors are over but you are just melancholic dwelling in dread, but you roll up some weed at the end and say you'll live another day. Incredible fucking album, really, the sound and everything is so perfect, big shout out to the producers for this album. It is so outstanding, I'd say he for sure beat Death Grips on the experimental hip hop front this year. That is saying something because I friggin love Bottomless Pit. Great review guys.

To 'dance in the the water and not get wet' is an analogy for his life. He's playing with fire and not getting burnt, he's living his life in a way which could ruin him at any moment. It's one of my favourite songs on the album.
