I'm sure its been said, but Danny is called the Octopus of the drummer world. He's easily considered one of the best drummers of all time (debates to be had about genres and periods, but I think this speaks for itself)

I'm a huge Rush fan, and for a long time, I would've called Neil Peart the GOAT. But I think Danny has surpassed him...and that's ok, and I'm cool with that. And I think Neil would be cool with that, because it's a case of the student becoming the master. Danny learned by listening to Neil, and I think Neil would be proud that Danny is taking the craft to even higher heights. Yes, and of course Danny's study of percussion has drawn from several drummers and percussionists across many genres and cultures. But Neil has always been at the core of his style.

The keyboard is called a marimba lumina and he plays it during the song Invincible. The electronic drum pads that Danny uses are called Mandala pads that he co-produced himself. The other electronic drum is called a Korg Wavedrum. He'll probably wear a Karl Malone jersey to SLC. Unless he has a Gobert or Mitchell jersey. I'm seeing Tool in Miami where I expect to see him in a DWade jersey.

Yes, this. TooL is complete in the live performance. You get to visually and sonically immerse into them. There's this symbiosis that takes place if you're into it. Like a sort of sensory amplification tank. Fragment into motes and spiral out.

Danny was a basketball prospect at Kansas U, however he chose to go to LA and pursue his musical dream, Tool is a very big band so they play all of the NBA arenas in North America, so he gets a custom uniform from every team when they play those arenas...this video was shot in Boston...hence the Bird jersey, he wore an Allen Iverson Jersey the next night in Philly and he wore his cousins Kansas U jersey in AC New Jersey two nights later....it's pretty badass

Danny is a die hard Lakers fan. Ran into him at Pavilions on Pacific Coast and he had a #8 Kobe jersey. The reason he has on. A Celtic uniform is because Danny wears the cities basketball teams best players uni during the concert there. In Philadelphia he wears an Iverson uni, Atlanta Dominique, Boston Larry Bird which in this case the team his name Carey on the jersey. He lives in Malibu so he runs around town only in Laker gear.

Either listen to the two version of "Pushit" they have (original on Aenima album, self cover on the Salival album) OR listen to Wings for Marie followed by 10,000 days (2 part song off the album 10,000 days). No disrespect to John Bonham (R.I.P) because he was an absolute beast at his craft but Danny Carey is greatest drummer of all time imo. Almost defies logic what he can do. Love your Tool reactions so glad that you have found them. You definitely need to react to 7empest from the Fear Inoculum album. Quite possibly their greatest achievement as a song. Danny and Justin doing their usual beast mode in driving the beat but Adam Jones is the standout on this song. His solo work in the middle of the song with Danny and Justin smashing the backbeat is possibly greatest piece of music I've ever heard. Its no fluke that it won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance despite it being a 15 minute song. You won't regret it. Tuning in from little old New Zealand 👋
