THE best rock drummer of the modern era. He leaves no room for discussion on that statement. Kiss the ring.

even though he started in the 70's, Neil Peart still holds down the reigns as best drummer

On the contrary, Buddy Rich still holds that title from the 50s. Neil Peart was inspired by Buddy Rich.

Truth be told though, I still gotta say that Danney Carey is the best drummer writer of all time. Looking throughout all tool albums he switches between so many different styles and it all sounds so unique. He's so good at staying fresh with all his styles composed of metal, jazz, rock, and his signature African beats that I think he's the least repetitive drummer during the writing process of a song.
@TheTechAndScience6 жыл бұрын
swygster Rich was outclassed ages ago, he was influential but had nowhere near the technical and writing capabilities of someone like Carey or Peart
@bryanmoseley98876 жыл бұрын
Carey is the best drummer ever. His 4-way coordination, use of off timing polyrhythms and general feel for writing around odd time Bass/Guitars are all off the charts. I put him above everyone, and will defend that with zero recourse.

The drum tech who comes out at 2:30 is Jeff Ocheltree. He was John Bonham's drum tech from 1977 until he died in 1980. For you youngsters out there John Bonham was the drummer for this band called Led Zeppelin. They were pretty good.

The best drummers are the ones that make you want to give up playing. Mr. Carey's firmly in this category.
@jeromed221 күн бұрын
Yeah but just as an example, he sent 5 years working mainly on his rudiments while studying at university back then...I think when you learn to read, write, create music the right way at a younger age, as well as to master your instrument (technique, for example the double stroke with both hands and on each bass drum pedal) you can become a great complete drummer... Aaamen. 🙂

::takes a breather after just watching this:: I don't know how the man does it. It seems like he has areas of the kit that he just goes to at various times in the song and lets loose to the same rhythm rather than writing any patterns down in his head. Howeverr he does it, it is an awesome sight. Y'all in the KC are lucky.

His dynamic control is amazing. I see so many great drummers who can play stuff like this, or even do perfect covers of tool songs, but they always lack dynamic control. Danny plays with incredible power with such limited movement and scales it back perfectly as the music demands. Perfect example is how he uses his snare (with the snares off) to get a tom sound using a softer hit and then goes straight back to a snare sound using a powerful rimshot.

@mikeythespiky12 This song is actually in a quite regular time signature (9/8), but, as per TooL usual, they made the accents all different from the regular. In that beat, the accents are on one, three, five, and seven. In 9/8, they are usually one, four, and seven. It isn't necessarily the time signature, it's the feel that makes TooL so awesome.
